Liking it more after a couple of more listens. Still think it's a bit robbie and a bit cliché though About the chorus, the way he sings the "I'm" in 'For what it's worth Im sorry" is a bit weird. Sounds like they took the "I'm" from another take and put it in between the other words from the chorus. The one take where he was maybe able to reach that note Ending of the song reminds me of the ending of don't go away. Read my post from earlier. I think its merged with Aldred's guide (or just Aldred) as it sounds EXACTLY like his voice on those two words. Completely agree. The end of "worth" and the whole "I'm" words are so very weird, you can easily notice they'd to cut and split the take. I personally don't think that's (only) Liam singing, and good catch from simmo to think of Aldred himself as the singer of these parts.

Never had you down as such a Robbie connoisseur @isness ;-) First album I ever got was his first greatest hits compilation back over a decade ago, and the first version of Wonderwall I heard was a cover he did Also, I'd argue that he's been more experimental (at least in moving between genres) throughout his career than Oasis or either Gallagher has ever been Its easier to be experimental when you're not writing the songs.

I love it but it doesn't sound Oasis-y to me, sounds like what someone who doesn't really know Oasis would think, people who think they sound like the Beatles (which they didn't)
think I prefer Paper Crown though which is similar style song to this Paper Crown>FWIW>Bold. Think the next single will be Greedy Soul with Bold coming out after the album's been released.

They have definitely been dropped in from an entirely different vocal take, obviously that's not uncommon when comping vocals but it sticks out like a sore thumb. If it's not Aldred, then they have got Liam to sing just those words alone to hit the note and dropped them into the line. I can tell by the word "worth" that it's been sung as the first word after a breath rather than in the middle of a line as it should be. This isn't actually that uncommon really in recording. If it's Aldred then he did the same thing too, that "worth" in the song was definitely not sung mid-sentence, you can hear the sibilance from the "s" on the end of "it's" drop out slightly just before "worth comes in". Those words would merge together if it was 1 take.

I think Liam is brash to Noel in everyday things because he sees this song as a one off Apology that really sums up how he truly feels for a second. After that introspective moment, he's going back to being a punk rock and roll star day to day. As you were Great that Simon Aldred has finally apologised Noel!

True, but that implies that Oasis could've been more experimental(/tried out other genres) had they collaborated with others more. Death In Vegas, Amorphous Androgynous; those attempts show that they wanted to release something different to what people would expect, and were not averse to collaboration, but both times they ultimately didn't want to risk releasing it. (Sidenote : Only collaborative album that has been released is As You Were* which isn't aiming to be experimental with collabs anyway) Robbie Williams is the opposite in that he lacks the songwriting ability to release anything that he's authored on his own, but he's willing to sing, write lyrics for, and release albums in different genres that have the potential to decimate his fanbase (see Swing When You're Winning for when it didn't, see Rudebox for when it did). Whilst I respect Noel a lot more for writing the majority of albums released under his name/Oasis, still much kudos to Robbie for releasing stylistic left turns under his name when he's had the opportunity. *Ok, it's not October yet, but the odds of it getting pulled at this stage...

Its a nice little tune, but thats all for me, kinda disappointed... Too much hype around comparing it with DLBIA and saying it was Oasis-y, when it feels like a mix of Kill For A Dream and The Beat Goes On with better production IMO. Also got an Im Outta Time vibe there.
Its going to be a tough one to sing live with that falsetto in the chorus. Really wish they had released this before Chinatown...

I like it, i just don´t know if it lives up to the hype. But i prefer it a lot more to Paper Crown, and it´s not even close.

Q for older fans - when would you say Liam became known for ballads like this? Is this what he is to you?I grew up in Heathen Chemistry times, where songbird and SCYHO and let there be love was his thing. I loved the whole "hard man bares his soul" angle. But I suppose wonderwall and champagne supernova are also Ballady technically....do some people here think of Liam as a rocker and not care for his ballads? Oasis' most famous song is a ballad but I don't personally think ballad = Liam. Oasis doesn't even have that many true ballads that Liam sings. Wonderwall, Don't Go Away, Stop Crying Your Heart Out. Not sure what else. Noel stopped writing those types of songs.

Quite enjoying this. Always liked the DGA, SCYHO style. Wouldn't want an entire record of those though. Three official songs, all with different kinds of sounds. Can totally see why they chose to go this route. Can't all be Liam bashers now can they? Letting people know there is some diversity on the album. For me, a great run up to the release, even if it's taking awhile. I'm content to savor the journey

He became known initially for Supersonic and Live Forever - while live forever is a ballad, its pretty high tempo and brash production, no strings etc, its LOUD. Worldwide I guess wonderwall and champagne supernova meant that yeah, flag wavers are a big part of what he's about.

I really liked it then the chorus kicked in...
Liam sounds great, the verses are great, I can't get away with the chorus though. Still early days though maybe my view will change only listened to it twice.

I'm an older fan, not from age, but I started listening to Oasis when WTSMG came out when I was 8. And it was Liam's voice that drew me in especially on the ballady songs. Even on rockers, like Morning Glory, the vocals draw you in. I'd be surprised if the people around from the start prefer the rockers. I am also a bit confused by many here who seem to be pro rocker, the was never really an Oasis staple. Or if it was, Liam's vocals would still be "ballady". It wasn't until the 00s when his voice dropped off that he became a shouter and a snarler when the "rockers" really started to struggle, as did the quality of the song overall.

Fuck me that was hard to sing, had to completely change round the chorus melody. Chords aren't completely right, few wrong ones in there I'm sure but it's not far off. Absolutely love this song. Thanks mate. What are the actual chords? I'd like to give it a try.

"Behind the lens is a poison picture you paint And lets not pretend you were ever searching for saints Cause I've been crucified for just being alive Somewhere in the crossfire of this whispering war Seems that I've forgot just what I was fighting for But underneath my skin there's a fire within Still burning" I love that part of the song. It really is a look at someone's inside feeling

Same here (except that I was 7 ). One point you didn't raise is that, even though there were ballads from the beginning, none of them approached SCYHO's level of cheesiness. You can't compare songs like Champagne Supernova, Rockin' Chair or whatever to that one. I'm not particularly pro-rock or anything, but I find songs like SCYHO and LTBL bland, safe and uninteresting. For what it's worth (ha!), Heathen Chemistry made me hand in my "Oasis fan card" for a few years (the next two albums did nothing to bring me back). Hence my take on FWIW.
