That was made pretty clear by the end result. Thought he could improvise better havent seen rattle and hum? Bono says something like play me the blues and the edge procedes to play the least blues solo ever 😂

SHOCKER:
Same boring As Fuck Setlist. I'm sorry god bless Noel but he's not a front man he needs to reassume his position on the side.
At least Liam is mixing his setlist up almost every gig

I don´t see the problem of this happening at all. I just question the need to be a opener to a band, I don´t think Noel really benefits anything from this because all of the guys that go to a U2 concert probably already know who the fuck Noel Gallagher is anyway. I guess the main benefit is that he gets warmed up for the 3rd solo album tour.
But let´s not forget Liam is supporting Foo Fighters right? I would not be shocked if the same happened with him but regarding Live Forever.
Times change, they are not a band anymore, maybe one day they will be, but for now they are not and it´s been like that since 09, the hate regarding what they do with Oasis songs needs to stop really. They each have their right to play them outside it, either because they wrote it or sang it.

I wanna hear more new material but I have no issue with oasis stuff. I did when it was Beady Eye because it undermined what they were trying to do which was create a new brand/identity and not be considered an Oasis cover band featuring actual members.

Absolutely spot on mate. That´s the main reason i was disappointed with Noel´s set list. Kinda expected a new tune, even if it was a unreleased one from previous recording sessions but i reckon this gigs are only warm-up and so the set list will be the usual and i totally understand that. Regarding Beady Eye, i think that was a decision based on the fact the band was not having the commercial success Liam thought he would and was kinda of a panic decision to the say the least and doing that they kinda lost their identity. But Beady Eye was doomed from the get go, i think they never recovered from the flop of the choice of a first single. Choosing Bring The Light over Four Letter Word was a atrocious decision.

The material and sound on BE was a lot lot stronger than DGSS. I wanted to hear a third Beady Eye album. Wasn't to be. Granted I always wanted a Liam solo career more than Liam and Beady Eye. Liam is the fucking star.

DGSS was very rushed and like a anger produced album regarding Oasis breaking up, you could tell there was not much of a direction there although it had some good tunes and some decent B-Sides. I truly enjoy BE, many tracks of the album are on my Spotify playlist and i own the record physically as well but i think the damage had been done by then. Absolutely Liam is the star. I actually wonder that if he went with his own name right off the bat if he would have been better off. I will go out on a limb and say he would and the band line-up would be a lot better but life is not made of if´s. He´s solo now and the tunes sound good and for now his voice is holding up.

I know I said at the time of the breakup Liam should take a long ass break, then collaborate with a songwriter like what Robbie Williams does with that one guy. Robbie has had a million UK hits. Why not Liam? A lot of people have told me that was a fucking pipe dream because in 2010-2012 no way Liam would accept outside help or admit he didn't have the songwriting chops. Now is the time.

I remember reading that a lot and many of my friends dismissing Beady Eye as that and kinda pissed me off. Truly, he has the voice, the presence, he can write the occasional good tune but he can´t do this later part consistently and he got the help he needs this time around(technically he had help at Beady Eye but let´s face it, Gem, Andy are not good song writers). I still don´t think he has changed this much, but at least professionally wise he realized he does need help and this is his last shot. If he flops, it´s over. Let´s focus on the music of the brothers for once, the reunion may or may not happen but i reckon the odds of it happening are bigger if Liam actually makes this work and acts like a grown man about it which for now he is. But right now, the two are releasing stuff and i could not be happier about it. I just hope i get to see them live, specially Liam because he never came here(i´m not counting Oasis), the only concert he had planned here was during the BE tour and got cancelled. I saw Noel two years ago and it was fucking great.

Thought he could improvise better havent seen rattle and hum? Bono says something like play me the blues and the edge procedes to play the least blues solo ever 😂 The Edge...don't spare the irony with that name...he's ok on his pedals...but beyond that he's a bit wanting isn't he? Its the first time Noel's played live since the One Love controversy so of course he'd play DLBIA - Bongo looks like he's going to burst with smugness...at the fact he got Noel doing it at his show overall I thought Noel sounded great and I don't mind the set list....he'll change it up and we'll have new music soon enough

This forum is filled with a lot of hate. It's a hate release center most of the time. 'nuff said. I can't really stand some of the discussions anymore. There's so much negativity against everyone and everything. Chill out folks.

When did this forum become the fucking Steve Hoffman forum? I don't remember seeing such levels of complaining and entitlement when I joined and it wasn't that long ago. All we need now is a healthy dose of "get off my lawn"-type snobbery and some pointless Beatles discussion and we got the whole package.
What did you expect Noel to play for an audience in which at least half of the people are hoping he'll finish as soon as possible so that they can see U2? I saw him multiple times during the last tour and these are, for good and for bad, the songs people like at gigs. You forget that most of the audience are casual fans who maybe haven't even heard Chasing Yesterday and want a) songs they know (Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall), or b) songs they can move and chug beer down to (Lock All the Doors, The Mexican). It's as simple as that. Step away from those two, and if you have a tough audience they'll freeze (Barcelona 2016 comes to mind).
It reminds me of that time Bob Dylan was asked about his thoughts on the people that follow his tours and always take the first row at concets, and he said something along the lines of purposefully avoiding playing for them. He almost sounded contemptuous, but it's easy to see why he would adopt such a stance when one reads the opinions of any artist's hardcore fans.

Noel is the OPENING ACT. Everybody needs to calm down.
Liam is on a SOLO TOUR PROMOTING HIS DEBUT ALBUM. Liam has played 9 songs of Solo Material, and some of the songs people are complaining about wishing it wouldn't be on his album.
When Noel started his first Solo Tour 5 years ago he played 11 songs of solo Material, there were complaints too, not everyone can be pleased. Noel has since played over 20 solo songs and gave us a handful of surprises over the years (Lord Don't Slow Me Down, Shout It Out Loud, Angel Child, etc).
Now its Liams turn to surprise us, hes played the following songs we complain about Oasis ALWAYS PLAYING. Rock n Roll Star, Morning Glory and now Wonderwall which he ALSO played with Beady Eye. Liam has surprised us with Be Here Now, D'You Know What I Mean, Live Forever Acapella and his own take of Don't Look Back In Anger. I'm not sure where to stick Slide Away because it was played in 08/09 but that was after a 7 year break from the song. I welcome it.
Liams got a bundle of gigs left this year, will he be playing the same set til the end or will he actually change it around? What if he plays Cigarettes & Alcohol? Will we celebrate? Will we complain?
All we can do is wait.

I was there last night and I have to say I really enjoyed Noels set. The songs definitely sounded better with Gem and Chris and it was nice to hear Little By Little again.
It's only a matter of time now before we get noels new single and then I assume it will be added to the setlist at the U2 gigs.

You should see how some people were angry on Exit festival because of Liam's setlist.
They wanted that old, boring setlist with greatest hits. They don't give a shit about new songs or even Be Here Now and D'You Know What I Mean.
I think that majority of U2 fans will be pleased if he doesn't change setlist. Average U2 fan who will come early to see Noel, probably knows few biggest hits and will check setlist from few nights ago and then he will probably listen and learn songs that he doesn't know from that setlist so that he can sing along.
Oasis or High Flying Birds were never that band, like Pink Floyd for example, that you can just listen live with your eyes closed and enjoy how great they are as musicians.
Whole point of going to Oasis/Noel's/Liam's gigs is to sing along. And if you don't know songs, you can't do that.

I don't think people realise how difficult it must be to pick a set list that pleases everyone. He's supporting U2 at probably their most important gigs since the turn of the millennium and pulling out something like Boneheads Bank Holiday to please about 5 people on this forum isn't going to be worth the risk. Let's just be happy that both of them have played a decent live show this weekend..

They played same songs over and over night after night and we didn't have a problem with that, did we?

It seriously amazes me when people say that Noel could play anything in this situation. Noel probably has a select few songs that will get a sing along type of response from an audience that isn't his own.
No one is singing along to Stand by Me or the Hindu Times or Go Let it Out. Most of the audience would literally go silent.
Noel probably has a couple of rare choices that he could play and get a really good response anywhere: Dont Go Away, Lyla, and SCYHO.
Anything else is Oasis fans over rating the reach of certain songs.

Typically, it's common courtesy for the opening band not to upstage the closing band (unless it's a festival). Now, that's an easy task to do when you're young. Not many people know you and they don't give a shit if you play new tracks. Radiohead were just new enough that it was fine to play new tracks. But Noel? And with the internet? If Noel had debuted a new unheard track, it would have overshadowed U2's set. It have a minimum 10 NME articles about it. Noel isn't going to do that to his mates who invited him on a stadium tour. It's super impractical for anyone to expect that he would debut new unheard material (not that you were expecting that Lennon).

I've read countless interviews with many of my favorite artists saying they use to use a gig and soundcheck to test out material. Now they mostly shy away from it because someone will record it, post it and give a million opinions on it within the hour. Robbing an artist of that creative freedom time to test shit out without prying eyes. I don't think Noel appreciated fans having taped and played EOTR or IIHAG to death long before he ever launched his solo career.
