Karma Police isn't even the best track on OK Computer. nor is 'i wanna be adored' on the stone roses or 'eleanor rigby' on revolver.

Unfinished Sympathy should win, its bloody brilliant. I Wanna Be Adored over Gimmie Shelter? Not having that.

Everything about it is perfect, it has a ethereal quality about it you can't quite put your finger on especially the intro.

Everything about it is perfect, it has a ethereal quality about it you can't quite put your finger on especially the intro. Not to mention the greatest contribution from a guest vocalist EVER. When she comes in after Keith's second solo (counting the intro as a solo) it's amazing, but when her voice cracks... It's just one of those things. Words cannot describe it, but that's why we have music I guess. And yes, I'm still gutted it didn't win the first round.

I didn't know about this thread until track 3 and I too was astonished I Wanna Be Adored had beaten Gimme Shelter

Ok, calm down, people voted for that, there is no right or wrong. Can you prove that Gimme Shelter is better than I Wanna Be Adored or that Karma Police is not the best song on OK Computer. I don't think so. I don't know why people always need to say that Smells Like Teen Spirit is not the best Nirvana song or Wonderwall Oasis or now with Karma Police. It's like that you are bigger fan and you know more about music if you say that. For someone is best song on that album, for someone is not, one thing is sure, it's great fucking song.

The thing that surprises me the most is that we all forgot to nominate Bowie classics, except for Heroes. No "Starman", "Changes", "Life On Mars?", "Ashes To Ashes". Cos' let's face it: we need a David Bowie track somewhere in this thing (same thing for the Rolling Stones). For that tie-break, I've voted for Karma Police. It's a classic. Not my favourite Radiohead, but one of their last big chance to be on this album. Reckoner is a good song and I do like it but no way it'll win his round. I get what you're saying but it's trying to get the 'perfect album' not a 'greatest artists of all time' list which has been done to death on this forum. This is a bit more interesting, primarily because it opens up a whole variety of great songs by artists that may not be considered the 'greatest of all time'. Massive Attack are undoubtedly a great act, but they're not the most obvious act to namedrop in a best of list unlike Radiohead, so this does a good job of highlighting underrated bands and underrated songs. For example, one of the earlier nominations was Tears For Fears' Everybody Wants To Rule The World. I don't think Tears For Fears are one of the greatest acts of all time, but I do think Everybody Wants To Rule The World is one of the best songs of all time and if it had won in the previous round, I think it would be justifiable, even over more esteemed and better acts like Bowie and the Stones.

I think that's a good question because there's only a few acts I can think of. Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel? But even then, that's very debatable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that only best artists/bands that get the "consensus" have to make the cut cos' if I did I wouldn't have nominated Belle & Sebastian, Flotation Toy Warning, Supergrass, Elliot Smith, Big Star or Spiritualized. If I talked about The Rolling Stones, Bowie or if I chose Karma Police over, it's purely because of my musical taste and not because they'd be on the "Greatest Acts of All The Time" list. I don't make any difference based on the respective success of the bands. Songs always come first for me. Hope that I'm clear

Which band do you think has a biggest hit that you also consider their best song? bruce springsteen - born to run? i'm saying that in terms of being his 'biggest hit' nowadays in terms of radio airplay (at least here in the united states). it's mind-boggling that song peaked at only #23 on the u.s. chart upon it's release in 1975.

There's a few clashes here with some bands nominated more than once. World71R and The Crimson Rambler, you've both nominated Led Zeppelin tunes - is there a preference you can agree on. We could have more than one Led Zeppelin track on the nominations, but that tends to spread the votes out for the one band over a few songs, so there's more of a risk of them sinking without a trace, if you get what I'm saying. Likewise with U2. glider and @id1edreamer - how do we solve a problem like The Fly and Bad?! That's a tough one. As for Radiohead, do we go for Just? I see @lynds21 has nominated it, as has The Escapist (though are you thinking about Idioteque?).
