Does anyone have an update on this? Surprised it hasn't leaked yet.

Wouldn't mind Sitek. Did a good job on BE.

I would not mind Sitek either, although I think it would be very interesting if someone like Dan Auerbach was at the helm (I remember learning that Beady Eye attempted to secure Auerbach's services before turning to Sitek).

Hopefully it's not somebody with his head stuck in the '60s. Liam's efforts deserve a more modern-thinking/ambitious approach, like what Sitek did with BE.
My opinion -for what it's worth- is that Lennony vibes can go straight into the bin.

I doubt it would be sitek tbh, I aint got a clue who decides the producer but warner bros might recommend someone, I doubt Liam will care all that much, seem to remember him saying he hadnt clue who sitek was and didnt care or something.
just stay away from 60s shit, Ill be pissed if we get a DGSS sequel.

My opinion -for what it's worth- is that Lennony vibes can go straight into the bin. Yeah I really don't understand the obsession to replicate Lennon to the nth degree on record. It's like when Noel attempted to replicate Bowie on Girl With X Ray Eyes and was strangely proud in interviews boasting how he made the song sound more like him - why would I want watered dumbed down Bowie when we've got the real thing? Do the Gallaghers realise we can actually listen to these artists instead? It's the musical equivalent of Lidl's all brand products. If I want Bowie or Lennon, I'll dig their albums out and listen to them, rather than resort to cheap pastiches.

Really hoping for Sitek too but doubt it will be. Liam not knowing who he was can show how narrow/single minded he can be, which is pretty much Lennonlife.
DGSS part 2 would be so disappointing. I think it will be but who knows.
Either way it'll be good to have him back in music! Praying for BE part 2!

And really, I don't think they should have to. An artist should make the type of music that turns them on - not what they think their fans/critics want to hear. Sometimes I do despair with the extent to which Liam models himself on Lennon, but then I'll hear Dear Prudence or Girl and think 'well, if you're going to obsess over anyone...' Liam's shown, through some of the songs he's written, and through his appreciation of songs like Travis' Luv, that's he's got a softer more melancholic side to him than you might expect, so maybe him being so inspired by John Lennon - who, for me, could convey both pain and beauty, in song, better than just about anyone else could - isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Dave Sitek, Dave Fridmann or DIV with the sessions getting completed- any of those three would be a good start albeit very unlikely. Warner Bros. may well recommend a producer but even if they are paying for the sessions I doubt they will be as insistent on use of their choice as they would a new artist. I'd love a surprising change of direction or sound, but I still can't quite shake this image when I think of the solo record

Nods to Lennon is fine like Flick of the Finger but songs like I'm Outta Time which was ruined by its blatant Lennon style production is embarrassing to listen to. Flick is a song which you can list off influences but you can't exactly place it into one category. Likewise, Soul Love and it's not a surprise that these are a couple of the strongest Beady Eye tunes. It's not necessarily the song, it is how they interpret them in the studio, and the sledgehammer approach to some of them is cringeworthy. The irony is that for all Noels posturing about not being able to do what he wanted with Oasis, it's him who's arguably been most derivative in the studio of late (such as the aforementioned X Ray Eyes). I'm relatively more comfortable with Liam allowing an element of creative control from others to seep through if he has teamed up with more contemporary songwriters. Noel's stubbornness doesn't fill me with confidence, even if he is working with David Holmes.

Those 3 are all good suggestions imo (Fridmann, Sitek and Death In Vegas). Those producers are all interesting enough.

It would almost be worth the producer being revealed as Sardy just to see this forum's reaction...
Almost.

I've heard in certain circles that Brendan Benson is in fact involved. That's all that I was told. I'll keep poking around. He's got strong Michigan ties so there's a chance I can find out some details.

John Leckie could be a safe way to go?

John Leckie could be a safe way to go? The problem for me with John Leckie is he is a good choice to work with a forward thinking artist who has the ideas and songs fully formed, such as Radiohead, Six by Seven and The Verve. His production with bands such as Cast or with The Stone Roses when they were struggling with the 'Second Coming' LP is very workmanlike to me, with a hands off approach when I think at this point Liam should ideally be working with a producer who is more involved from the song development at the outset, which is partly why I suggested Dave Fridmann who aside from being such a producer can also get a truly timeless feel to a record as opposed to making it sound like a sixties pastiche which I think Liam could well end up doing without the right people in the studio.

I know Leckie only worked with them for the first album, which coincidentally is one of my favourite Verve periods. When I said fully formed I should have said capable of fully forming, which beyond the basic chords, lyrics and melody as with Beady Eye and Oasis I am not sure Liam can do beyond a stripped back Lennon-esque sound.

Gotcha. That makes sense. Sometimes I wonder how hands on Liam has ever gotten from a production standpoint. And I mean other than the Lennon production styles. Like you never hear many oasis stories where somebody will say Liam came up with a part or idea that was then incorporated into the finished product. I'm sure he's capable but I'd imagine working with Noel for so long stunted some growth in the sense that he was never going to be relied on for the bulk of the ideas. Would love to read/hear some of Sitek's insight into working with Liam.

I like what Sitek did with BE and Fridmann would also be interesting. I would also like Josh Homme, if we're going for a more modern garage rock.

Probably self produced, and Liam is playing all instruments.
Should be good !
