As you're such a fan of heavily stylised titles, I imagine you love the 22, A Million tracklisting:
1. 22 (OVER S∞∞N) 2. 10 d E A T h b R E a s T ⊠ ⊠ 3. 715 - CRΣΣKS 4. 33 “GOD” 5. 29 #Strafford APTS 6. 666 ʇ 7. 21 M♢♢N WATER 8. 8 (circle) 9. ____45_____ 10. 00000 Million
Yep. Can't stand that kind of shit. I've yet to see it be done where it's added any depth at all to the artistry of a album/song/etc. And mostly, it just comes across as a vain attempt at disguising an output's distinct lack of any depth (i.e. Kasabian's 48:13). Even with Bowie on his last one, if we're to take the image of a black star as a representation of himself, or his artistry - or hell, even if it was just an allusion to his illness - the massive great black star bang smack in the middle of a white background, on the cover, and his name being spelt with fragments of black stars, directly below it, would probably've been enough--maybe the album and song title 'Blackstar' being stylised as ★ wasn't exactly necessary... But, hell, I can't get too tetchy about any of that, when he went to such lengths elsewhere: Anyway, where do you stand on the issue? And in particular, do you think the consumer of Bon Iver's new record is gaining anything from Justin Vernon naming the songs as he has? (that's not a leading question, btw - just interested to know what you think on the matter) Personally, I don't mind it at all - I think in genres like IDM it can add to the inhuman, cold feel of some the tracks (Aphex's devilish mischief comes across in his titles too, I think), and in rock and pop it can make songs more memorable and kind of add to the fun (Slade, Round Are Way, etc...). On 22, A Milion I definitely think it adds something - it adds to the whole feel of the album, that kind of chaotic calm. Take the mad collection of symbols on the cover, the kaleidoscope of sounds on every track, the abstract lyrics which still seem to fit together somehow - the whole album is a crazy jigsaw of raw emotions and sounds under a smooth, synthetic veneer. It's Justin trying to obscure all his anger and pain behind distorted sounds, which of course only makes it more emotional - for me, the crazy tracklist just adds to that feel of dissonant things coming together to make something recognisable. It wouldn't make as much sense to call the songs It Might Be Over Soon or Strafford or anything like that. It wouldn't be bad, but it wouldn't make the album feel as complete as it does right now. I don't think it's essential, but I do think it adds something. What I can't stand is bad puns in tites. "Screenager" by Muse makes me want to rub my eyeballs in sand.

Totally agreed. This shit makes me want to throw up. Hipsterific B U L L S H I T totally in line with current fashion. I hate it and want to destroy it. I can give Aphex Twin a pass with a lot of his stuff because it's descriptive and reflects the way he works. This 22, A Million stuff though...

This year is being such a nightmare worldwide that nothing can surprise me anymore. At least Trump won the election.
