Looks cool, definitely cooler than the cover for Demon Days, but seeing as they've already used that style for Demon Days (which itself was already a rip-off homage to Let It Be), it's difficult to appreciate it on its own terms without thinking of it as being slightly lazy [I get it's called Humanz and therefore maybe it's meant as a demonstration of progress from 12 (fuck I'm getting old) years ago, but they definitely could've done it in a more creative way]. Well it's better than driving around in an army jeep. True that This one's the winner though imo, hands down

Not a fan on first listen but I'll try again over the next few weeks. Nothing on the level they've done before.
And in terms of album covers I'm going: Demon Days > Plastic Beach > Humanz > Gorillaz > The Fall

I miss Damon. He's barely on these tracks. Feels like Damon got a bit too stretched between all of his projects. Feels like he depended on collabs to do most of the work, and save himself some. I wonder how much better Humanz would have been if Damon had put all his efforts into this project.

Maybe I'm missing something here and over valuing Damon's presence on the album but for me the best parts of their albums were the songs he featured on heavily. Hopefully he's saving stuff for the next The Good The Bad The Queen album.

Hutony Manztano's review: I've listened to Humanz three times, and I agree with nearly every one of the points brought up here. I'm being quite serious when I wonder if Damon really has stretched himself too thin. At some point, you can have too many projects. Everyday Robots has its moments, but it's not anything incredibly special (there are some songs I love, but some are incredibly lifeless). I somewhat disagree about the Magic Whip. I did like it, though it wasn't earth shattering and it was a bit uneven. It very much survived, in terms of reception, because of Blur's reputation. And now we have Humanz. So far, we have been getting diminishing returns from Damon. I don't think Magic Whip is as good as Everyday Robots, and I certainly don't think Humanz is as good as Magic Whip. If we get an uneven The Good The Bad The Queen album, then I think it may be time for Damon to pull a Noel and take a step back.

I stand by what I said on my first impressions regarding the release of the first batch of songs and my opinion of those songs typify the whole album. These songs are just not as tightly constructed and lacks the songcraft of classic Gorillaz - again, meandering somewhat. As a standalone album, it's a decent album but it disappoints compared to Gorillaz other work. The ambition is there in spades as is to be expected, and there are little nuggets and nuances here and there which are great but on the whole it seems undercooked.

I've actually really being enjoying this tidied playlist today:
1. Intro: I Switched My Robot Off 2. Ascension 3. Saturnz Barz 4. Strobelite 5. Interlude: The Non-Conformist Oath 6. Andromeda 7. Charger 8. Busted and Blue 9. Interlude: Talk Radio 10. Let Me Out 11. Ticker Tape 12. Out of Body 13. We Got the Power
Cuts out a lot of the meandering and lets the good songs shine brighter. This would have been a damn fine album. Maybe not a Gorrilaz album, but a good one.

I often say Noel could learn a lot from a guy like Thom Yorke but he could also learn a thing or two from Damon Albarn who is always busy doing something! - Blur - Solo Damon - The Good The Bad The Queen - Gorillaz - Soundtracks Busy is good when the results are good. Make of that what you want.

Been singing "Oll Moi Loife" repeatedly today, like a fool. Love Saturnz Barz, perhaps the only track here that truly feels like it was made by 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel.

The WFUV interview with Damon was good. Even he said he realized he's barely on the album and kinda needed to insert himself more. Yeah.......no shit Damon.

The biggest problem with this album for me(aside from the alarmingly high number of songs which don't go anywhere) is that none of it except Saturnz Barz sounds like it was made by 2-D, Noodle, Murdoc, and Russel. If it had been released in full as a kind of hip-hop collaboration album, it might have been OK. But it's not Gorrilaz.
THAT'S Gorrilaz.

But an average Gorillaz one.

The problem with this record is it's a Gorillaz album that doesn't involve the Gorillaz.

Everyday Robots is one of my favorite records, so I had great expectations on this one, but having listened to it just once I have to admit it's a huge let down. There are 2 o 3 good songs, but they're basically the ones they released before the album. I read some article that said Damon tried to get Morrissey to sing on the album, I wonder where exactly he thought Morrissey would fit, maybe the plan was to bury his voice like he has done with Noel. I know Gorillaz has always been a fun colaborative project but this is... well, just not Gorillaz. And now we wait 7 years for the next one. Hopefully they'll release something new for the tv show or a stand alone single like they did with Doncamatic and Doyathing

I remember when Clint Eastwood dropped in 2001.

Make of that what you want. Gotcha. Well I liked the last Blur album. Loved The Good The Bad The Queen. Enjoy many aspects of Gorillaz and listened to his debut album a million times during the summer of 2015.

I'm a bit addicted to She's my Collar at the moment and I've loved Saturnz Barz and especially Andromeda since they were released. Charger is another one I really like, it reminds me of early Gorillaz.
