Love them or more likely hate them, there're been a fair few Team Liam versus Team Noel debates on here.
But for a lighthearted change of scenery, who gets your vote out of Andy and Gem? Who made the best contribution to Oasis? Who brought the best tunes? Who brought the worst tunes? Who had the best clothes? Who just stared at their shoes..?

Gem is better as a musician and looks/acts cooler. I liked the 90's Ride-era Andy, though. Also, Gem wrote Hung in a Bad Place and Eyeball Tickler, while Andy made Turn Up the Sun, all of which are really good. Most of their other compositions are mediocre or meh at best, so I think they fared alike as songwriters within Oasis.

I'm going Gem, he looked cooler. Really? I always thought Gem had a bit of an aging dad-rocker thing going on. And his earring - cringe. I guess it's hard to look that cool when you're doing photoshoots with Liam Gallagher though!

Thread Nazi ;-) Didn't see that thread, I assume it was playpenned quickly before I saw it. My tongue is firmly in my cheek with this "team" thread by the way. I'm not trying to incite arguments, so play nice people. Truth is with Noel's album over a year old and with no news on the BHN reissue or other Oasis related news coupled with insomnia I'm pretty bored right now!

Emile Heskey getting more votes than Andy was clearly a step too far!

live4ever.proboards.com/thread/82789/gem-andyGem. Gem: To Be Where There's Life Hung In A Bad Place Eyeball Tickler A Bell Will Ring The Quiet Ones Andy: Turn Up The Sun The Nature Of Reality Keep The Dream Alive Thank You For The Good Times A Quick Peep Turn Up The Sun is by far my favourite out of that list. But then everything else written by Andy I don't care for much at all. So averaging over the tracks I'd probably go for Gem. Tough call. As an aside it always surprised me that DOYS got named after a non-Gallagher lyric.

Gem.
He wrote some very solid-to-good tunes and played a big role in the MkII Oasis sound, especially when Noel left the SOTSOG tour. Gem did a good job to step up when Noel left and I think he did well in the lead guitar position.
Andy did well to write some alright tunes, but I don't think he served in as much of a role as Gem did, which is unfortunate because he's a good guitarist in his own right and a good songwriter. However, I think he fell victim to Noel still having a good amount of control over the writing and creative process throughout Oasis MkII (see Noel choosing what Andy thought was the least best song for DOYS from that demo tape).

Gem.
I think Gem is easier to get behind.
By the time 2000 rolled around Noel and Liam were far from their working class heritage. Andy was around well-known, and most likely could have turned down Oasis and continued doing his own thing (more so than anyone else in the band, except Noel), and every drummer who came along had been part of a good lineage whether they were Alan White, a son of the Beatles, or a drummer for the La's.
However, Gem was plucked kind of from obscurity. Yea, he was on creation, but once the label folded up would anyone have seen Heavy Stereo doing anything? Probably not. They probably would have kicked around and if they were lucky they would have been that random answer to a trivia question. This is all not to belittle Gem's efforts, but he does come off as a guy who got a lottery ticket. He kind of fits in with the Oasis narrative of a guy who got his break, had his chance, and went for it. An ordinary guy like or you or me who was able to go from "obscurity" to stardom in the blink of the eye. The fact that he went on to become the third most integral member above Andy is pretty inspiring to say the least. Gem was the last edition to the Oasis fantasy story.

Gem all the fucking way. Andy was kinda a let down while in Oasis considering the pedigree he had coming into the band in 1999. Just never really delivered much in the song writing department outside "Turn Up The Sun".

Andy. Gem couldn't write a song this good to save his life. and let's forget that The Nature of Reality exists

Gem wrote more songs I love than Andy's, though TUTS is one of the best OAsis songs of the 00s.
