Team niether. I think they both wrote all Oasis worse songs and didnt really add much else.

Andy. Gem couldn't write a song this good to save his life. and let's forget that The Nature of Reality existsI dig it! But I was asking people to judge them on their contribution to Oasis rather than on past merits.

Better than Turn Up the Sun. These 2 are the only 2 of their contributions to Oasis that I like.

Neither, nice blokes and all, but their songwriting was derivative and piss poor. A mere footnote in Oasis history for me (like everything post-2000).

Andy. I think he's the better musician and I prefer his best songs up against Gem's. I think Andy had a bit of a rough ride after Noel threw him under the bus. I think that still persist's to a certain extent.

(I'm not so hot on who exactly wrote what in BDI).

I must admit, I haven't really checked out Ride or Heavy Stereo that much at all. Where would you recommend starting? For sure go here: Thanks. That's one hell of a bad pun for an album title!

Andy
Purely for the fact that he thrown under the bus at the end by Noel like has been said. That and I felt he was the least ass kisser out of him and Gem.
Musically both really didn't bring anything to the table baring TUTS which is great.
Gem was Noel's yes man and Andy just went along with the 'oasis' thing.

What happened between Noel and Andy? I think he was a bit annoyed at the fact Andy was "just standing there" during the infamous plum fight.

Gem, Andys a vagina. However they're both pretty much Britpop rejects who were lucky to get into a dying Oasis and ultimately didn't contribute much of any note.

I thought they were both great live. Andy's bass was underrated IMO. It's a shame Oasis never went into a studio like Noel apparently is for his third album with no ideas, just writing and collaborating to see what they could come up with there and then, then handing the songs over to Liam to sing. In the end we were left with a mosh-mash quota system that never really delivered, like the South African cricket team. You can't deny that Gem never hit these heights though:

In the end we were left with a mosh-mash quota system that never really delivered, like the South African cricket team. You can't deny that Gem never hit these heights though: Andy was a great songwriter with Ride, it's a shame that' Carnival of Light' showed the cracks between him and Mark so obviously, and along with being forced to include selections by Sire Records for U.S. release, the releases of Definitely Maybe and Parklife that year ended music press interest in Ride, which in the pre-internet days could kill a band. Tarantula.should never have been released as it was essentially an Andy Bell solo effort under the Ride name where he attempted and failed to emulate the Definitely Maybe wall of noise, with Mark quitting the band before it's release. Andy then spent the next three years or so in Hurricane #1 trying to be Oasis before finally joining them. Hopefully now reunited with Ride he can follow his own musical path once more.
