Happy 1 year anniversary to Chasing Yesterday!
Crazy to think just a year ago we were all in the swing of hype and excitement! From leak night, to the reviews, to the crazy fake setlist, to the gig threads, and whatnot, it's all happened in a matter of 365 days. What thoughts you guys have about the record? Still best thing a Gallagher has released since BHN or SOTSOG? Anything you wish had been done differently?

One year later I still think it's the best Gallagher release since (and possibly including) SOTSOG. The Mexican grew on me a lot. It's got a couple of dodgy/shit lyrics but it's good. I still don't like X-Ray Eyes that much... too derivative and stale sounding. The "demo"/acoustic mix and the David Holmes remix are far more interesting imho. I recently listened to ITHOTM for the first time in months and I liked it even more than the first day. Sure, it's pure throwaway but it's solid, layered and fresh. Those three are the "weakest" songs on the record and if I exclude X-Ray Eyes they're still very enjoyable. And even X-Ray Eyes isn't as bad as The Good Rebel I love the rest, with BOTMI and While the Song being strong contenders for the title of Noel's best solo track.

I think it's excellent still, the only thing I'd change is the nah nah nahs for horns on Heat of the Moment. The album just 'sounds' so good and fresh, unlike a lot of the previous albums.

When I first heard it, I was a bit underwhelmed. After a few listens I loved it. Ballad Of The Mighty I, While the song and The Dying Of The Light are my 3 favourites.
I don't listen to the full thing, but I do still listen to most of the songs individually every now and then.
I think it's better than HFB1, both in songs and definitely in production. Noel managed to highlight the songs' best assets on this album, instead of the songs sounding a bit flat and old.

Personally I've always preferred the debut over Chasing Yesterday. Quite quickly after the release of Chasing Yesterday I found myself listening only to The Dying of the Light, While the Song Remains the Same & Ballad of the Mighty I. For me there was no coherence for the album as a whole and the rest just aren't that good.
But my god he was great live! Say what you want but IMHO the setlist was pretty much as good as it can get for a Noel gig. I mean come on, did you really think he was going to play Shout it Out Loud or Alone on the Rope the whole tour? He's Noel after all. I went to the gig expecting the usual suspects and was very pleased with what he had to offer. All the essentials from his solo career plus Champagne Supernova and The Masterplan. Not to mention that as a frontman he was notably better than during the first tour!

BOTMI, The Right Stuff, WTSRTS, You Know we Can't Go Back, Riverman - these are among some of the best songs Noel's written since 00 or in some cases, even earlier. And that's not to slate his 00s output, I do generally like it.
X Ray Eyes is good but the acousitc demo is far superior to the fully overproduced album version.
LATD, TDOTL are standard Noel by Numbers tracks - good but not very exciting for the most part.
ITHOTM and The Mexican have some value but also some very noticeable areas lacking - so 50/50 on these.
Overall, very happy with the record still.
And I love the cover art. I know its 'dull' but its miles ahead of the NGHFB album cover.

I wasn't there for day 1, but overall, the debut has grown better on me.
Still, The Right Stuff, You Know We Can't Go Back and Riverman are definitely among the best stuff he has done, and so are Lock All the Doors and The Dying of the Light. The Mexican, In the Heat of the Moment, Revolution Song, Freaky Teeth, Girl with X-Ray Eyes and Leave My Guitar Alone are all really nice, but I'm not as fond of them.
I don't really care for Ballad of the Mighty I, Do the Damage, Here's a Candle or While the Song Remains the Same, I find all of them boring.

I must be the only person on this site who thinks The Mexican, Stop The Clocks and the seemingly reviled by everyone The Good Rebel are great songs.
I'm not done though. I think Wonderwall is utter crap and that Oasis mk 2 (save for HC) was much better than Oasis mk 1 was. Blasphemy, right? Pray for my soul.

To be fair, the NGHFB album cover is him in front of a gas station... It's even blurry. The next one is probably going to be him on his couch, with his dog. While the Song Remains the Same is still my absolute favorite off it (followed by The Right Stuff) and as a whole I prefer it over NGHFB. I skip around that album while I always play Chasing Yesterday in full.

Still listen to about 3-4 of the songs regularly. Not listened to some of them for months.
The cover is still utter crap a year on.

I prefer Chasing Yesterday over HFB. His debut just sounds old.

One year later, still a fantastic album. Without a doubt better than any Oasis album of the 00's. The only problems I still have with it:
1. The title. As a lyric in WTSRTS it's great, as the name of the most forward-looking album from Noel since SOTSOG, it's extremely inappropriate. And it's a bit cringe-worthy too, isn't it?
2. Lock All the Doors. Don't get me wrong, this is a great song. But it looks way too far backward to have a proper place on a Noel solo album. But that's not to say that it disrupts the album flow; my gripe is more of a moral one. The song also needs the BHN treatment: layers of heavy rocking guitars instead of the relatively clean production values we got.
3. The cover. Self-explanatory.

As for whether CY is better than HFB...I'd say they're about neck and neck. If HFB had been produced like CY, then HFB would be a much stronger record than CY imo.

I got this album on 25th February last year. This album gave me the power to carry on when I was having one of the hardest times in my life.

A very good album, that, imo, could be an amazing album under a different name (O...s) and with a different singer (L..m). With a few exceptions (f.e. The right stuff) Noel's solo work will never break the limit of turning something beautiful to something magical, to another higher level. He can have that magic back in his music only with Liam as lead vocalist.
btw, still in love with "Riverman" & "The Right Stuff", with "The Dying Of The Light", "While The Song Remains The Same" and "BOTMI" coming next/close Rest of the album already sound dated to me and its hard to listen to it again...

In my opinion, Noel's best release since Morning Glory (unless you count The Masterplan). Ballad of the Mighty I, The Right Stuff and Riverman are three of the best songs he's ever written and would immediately go into any compilation. The Dying of the Light comes across as a massively improved Shout It Out Loud and almost redeems the evils lurking in IIHAG's production. While we're at that, Noel really nailed the production on this album (I suspect Paul Stacey played a big role).
Lock All the Doors, YKWCGB and The Mexican are the lesser moments of the album for me (particularly the latter), but they're great live and they fit into the album. ITHOTM is a throwaway with silly lyrics, but a good one at that.
Is the album better than NGHFB? I would say it is. At least, it's much more lively. While the debut contains absolute classics like TDOYAM and WAL, it sounds a bit tired compared to CY, and I suspect the production has a lot to do with it.

Still way different than expected, and still a great listen. Nice production, hope the next sounds as good.

Still a great record. Ballad of the mighty I is in my opinion one of the most exciting tracks he's made since the early Oasis days. I still play it a lot.
Lock all the doors is filler for me. The rest of the album is really really good I think. Riverman, X ray eyes, Dying Light, While The Song Remains The Same, Right Stuff,....so many great tracks.

X-Ray Eyes is such a wasted opportunity. The demo version was pretty good, the David Holmes rework was awesome, but no, just stick a fucking horrible mellotron sound on it, make it sound like Hotel California, Stairway To Heaven and The Masterplan all rolled into one (but somehow not sounding half as good as any of those) and put a few cringeworthy lines on it (which have been there since the demo, I know).

The mellotron on this song does sound cheesy. Turns me off.

Worst Gallagher-related album cover. Would hand that dubious honour to Heathen Chemistry.

Decent album, it's peaks are excellent. Shame about songs like Lock All The Doors and Girl With The X Ray Eyes though - middle age rock at its worst.
