I just think it was a dumb tweet. Like most of Liam's tweets, it was fairly childish.
I don't think it has anything to do with Orlando. However, when you make a tweet that guys should be careful of other guys pinching their ass, then that does have some homophobic overtones, and even the most ardent Liam supporter has to see what's wrong with saying that.Just as after 9/11 it was probably best to steer away from any plane jokes. Just as now, it's probably best to steer away from gay jokes. Liam was just caught in the middle.

That footage of him outside the hospital arguing with a photographer in 2001 when his son was born, he says all sorts of things that would be considered homophobic now, but then nobody battered an eyelid, it was news because he was offering a fight, not his choice of words. 15 years ago I guess. More PC now.

It might mean that those things were wrong to say 15 years ago and we were too ignorant to know that. Such as, if I hear racial slurs from the 60's, I don't think, "Well, I guess we've become more PC." Granted. I wouldn't put the two on the same level, and not saying you are. However, I don't think one can say, something was okay 15 years ago, so what's the deal now. And Liam has had a history of using what could be considered homophobic slurs. From that fight, to the US tour where he called American servicemen "gay boys," to now.

I didn't think you were, which is why I hedged a lot in my comment.

"... overly hetero sexual, loud and belligerent tourists with skin tight trousers and bum bags, with a non-existent percentage of women."
Smart up Mr. Gallagher! There is a better punchline to this.
Did you know that Tony McCaroll and Guigsy ,and almost Noel, were part of a hooligan gang in the 80's that called themselves "The Sweet and Tender Hooligans". Each member wore a green survival army hoodie with googles stitched into it. They would hide behind these, when in action.

I'm surprised to see that people find that tweet "very funny". I personally think it sound like something a 14 year old ignorant chav would say. Judging from the rest of your replies on here I'm one of the few who seems to think so though. Perhaps I don't have a sense of humour. Just playing devil's advocate here, but I am not sure your insight concerning Liam's arguably objectionable comments can be viewed with any degree of validity when you liken him to a "chav," which, of course, can also be viewed as comparably outrageous and stereotypical. Cheers!

Liam, do something, anything. Your fanbase is relying on your every punch drunk tweet just to stay entertained.

I don't think Liam's initial tweet was that bad or offensive given the context of who he is. What really is the killer in this situation is various media outlets reporting the story with the headline: "LIAM GALLAGHER APOLOGIZES FOR HOMOPHOBIC SLUR" I hardly ever see Liam or Noel in the news on music website in America. However, when I do it's always for extremely negative shit. Just days after the Orlando tragedy, this is not the stuff you want to be seen or printed to the masses. It's frustrating.

Maybe he learns something from that, which would be at least a good outcome to this mess.
Actually, I'm still puzzled how Noel got away last year with calling One Direction "c...suckers". Maybe he went under the radar because it was not on twitter? I found it utterly bizarre that he was not called out for that, but caught a shitstorm for making fun of skaters or German Rap.

The c*cksuckers remark bothered me as well. I can handle a bit of swearing (I say "fucking this" and "fucking that" all the time), but some words are jus too distasteful. It's just a personal thing.

I love the Gallaghers and I'm sure neither is a homophobe, sexist, etc. But remarks like that or insulting each other by calling the other a woman never sat easy with me. So I actually do hope that Liam learned something from that. Never too late!

Cheers! I can't even find the right words to reply with *scratches head* If I read your words correctly, then it seemed to me that you were communicating your disappointment with those who found Liam's tweets to be "very funny" (assuming, of course, that you found the tweets to be offensive), but then you likened the tweets to something a "chav" would write, which is a term that could also be perceived as offensive. In short, it seemed that you used an arguably offensive term as part of your explanation for being offended. I could very well be wrong here; it's just how I read this. I appreciate this discussion. Cheers.

Can't believe people are defending the tweet. I don't believe Liam is homophobic, but that tweet certainly was. Regardless of circumstance it would be offensive, but in light of very recent events it was pretty much moronic. But it had nothing to do with what happened in Orlando? I don't get why the PC brigade has to get all offended about it. Not gonna bother arguing with someone who uses the term 'PC brigade', sorry. It's beneath me.

It's beneath me. That sort of breath taking arrogance is exactly why certain well meaning left wing ideas end up being rejected by the masses because instead of making a point people resort to name calling or stating they are intellectually superior as you have done, which is hardly the way to express or inform opinions. For what it's worth from my point of view, which is probably very little if anything, I believe Liam's comments whilst ill thought which itself is perhaps unsurprising were not meant to tie into Orlando, and the people making those connections are no different to people who try and shut any form of speech down on the grounds it might offend someone regarding a situation that has nothing to do with the issue at hand. Criticise Liam for the language he used and what you feel it represents in the context of the circumstances by all means, but do not bring in unrelated tragedies and other issues to try and make irrelevant points.

Although there is no irreversible subtext behind his tweet. It encourages one to wonder "what Liam Gallagher's" opinion towards the event might be, if he's posting an allegedly "homophobic slur" on twitter within the same 24 hours. But I can't see his motivation behind it, to leave subliminal remarks on political events, if all his previous tweets were football related.

But I can't see his motivation behind it, to leave subliminal remarks on political events, if all his previous tweets were football related. I understand where you are coming from, but purely as a personal opinion I think that event wouldn't have even entered his mind as he posted that. I understand those of us who are politically aware of news and events around the world, myself included, may find it hard to conceive of not being aware of such implications but there are a great deal of people in this world who for including but not limited to economical, educational, political and social reasons are simply disengaged from serious thought regarding such events beyond perhaps in some cases blindly posting a social media message of "How sad they feel" or "What a tragedy". I am not defending Liam in this instance but I do think a lot of his views come from an era such as mine, where "cocksucker" for example was used by my late grandfather to describe union strike breakers getting close to management and "gay" a generally derogatory term. The difference is by trying to stay educated (and failing a lot! ) I understand that language and words change or perhaps have multiple meanings, especially to people from different generations or from English speakers who are not from the same backgrounds. Liam Gallagher reminds me of one of the lads I would have grown up with on the estate before I moved on who if he hadn't been in Oasis would possibly still be there, with little interest in outside matters beyond beer, cigarettes, maybe the bookies and "getting a bird". That may sound harsh but it is based on my own personal experiences for which I make no apology, and equally do not make excuses for the attitudes of people like that who have been left behind by the constant evolution for both better and worse at times of society.
