It's the Libertines. There's actually no competition. I don't care that they only made two records, they have hundreds of songs and devolved into several noteworthy spin-off bands. There's a reason every 00s band that debuted after the Libertines sounds like the Libertines I 100% disagree with this statement. I think you are over estimating this band. Especially in America where their impact was little to none. Closer to the none.

For me, the four albums of Arcade Fire are peerless this century, and silly me, I thought Agaetis Bryjun was early 2000s - it was 1999 in fact. My brother is really into Amnesiac and Hail, and though I've always liked them, they've actually grown on me in the last year in particular so have good claim, but I still think () and and Takk are a double whammy of great albums - personally as good as the Arcade Fire ones. I love Valtari too, and Kveikur was surprisingly heavy. Hopefully they release something this year. That's fair enough, Arcade Fire are pretty great. It took me ages to really appreciate Amnesiac, but I listened to it while playing a game set in an industrial, dystopian world with a film noir feel and it just clicked with that atmosphere. Really stark and apocalyptic. If Agaetis Bryjun had been in the 00's instead of Valtari, that would have been game over, second best album ever. Valtari's first half is amazing, but I think a couple of songs on the second are just ambience-by-numbers. Fjogur Pianos is gorgeous though. What kind of sound do you want from their next album, back to prettiness or keeping the heaviness? Probably a combination of the two - some of the bleakness from Kveikur mixed with some floaty ambiance of previous albums. How they'd do that is anyone's guess - I can't figure it out in my head just now, but I'm sure they would find a way. Perhaps a greater elaboration and sophistication to their debut would be nice to hear, as they've learnt the tricks of the trade over the years.

Von is really underrated, that gothic sound suited them so well. Hun Joro is one of my favourite Sigur Ros songs ever.

Like basically an album consisting of two tracks!

Doves were great. They must be the most underrated band of the last 20 years! Maybe my favourite of theirs. I wish Noel would do tunes a bit more minimalist like this. Rise is a masterpiece. And not only is my favorite Doves song, but it might also be one of my favorite songs ever, by any artist. Dreamy, multi-layered, airy, driving guitars... a truly perfect track.

Right you are my friend. I don't know a single person, with whom I associate on a regular basis, who knows of the Libertine's. Not one! They all at least know of Oasis.

The only American I know who talks about The Libertines is Let It🩸 and he is someone i've never even met in real life. Probably a great guy though. Of the early 2000s bands from the UK, Coldplay and Travis are the obvious lead dogs. I won't include Radiohead. They were huge way before the clock hit 2000.

Another band that deserves a shout are Doves. Lost Souls is one of the best debuts ever in my opinion. Also, Elbow - consistently delivered every album. Elbow is great. One Day Like This must be one of my favourite songs ever and it ALMOST always manages to cheer me up.

It were some quite special moments to me, when Black Rivers played Black And White Town and Rise in their support slot for Noel since I've never had the chance to see Doves live.

All of the bands without votes really shouldn't be on here. They either made their best output in another decade, or are shit.

Californication, By the Way, and Stadium Arcadium was an awesome a three album stretch, and saw some of their best work & experimentation done in that time. Not to mention, they also scored some pretty big hits too ( Scar Tissue, Californication, Otherside, By the Way, Can't Stop, Dani California, Snow (Hey Oh))
