Another thing to cross of my bucket list, hear a song with James LaBrie, Hansi Kursch and Tobias Sommet. 2 of the 3 have recorded before with each other (obias and Hansi) but throw James in and WHOA!

Stereophonics can be hit and miss sometimes, but Violins & Tambourines is simply wonderful. It was love at first listen when it came out a few years ago. Nice, fitting video too.

I don't care what people say, Kreator are back! Slayer should study them for how to do good thrash.

Listening to quite a bit of Elliott Smith these days, in particular songs I'm not familiar with or other versions of the songs I know (acoustic, demos, live). The guy was a great raw talent. I'm surprised a lot of his demos/live versions are actually better than the actual ones. Especially thinking of this brilliant acoustic rendition of "Baby Britain". The guy had great taste in music, aswell. Covered multiple Beatles songs, Supersonic (apparently, he did love Oasis) and pop gems (Care of Cell 44 , Thirteen, Waterloo Sunset). I know that quite some of you already know a bit of him but don't hesitate to look deeper into his catalogue. If you're a fan of The Beatles, Big Star or Nick Drake, you might like mister Smith. Some live versions: Have you downloaded Grand Mal collection already? It's a fan-made collection of alt. takes, demos, B-sides and unreleased stuff. He was extremely productive person, there's still stuff on the vaults waiting to be released!! Apparently the guy wanted to release an double album since Either/Or but eventually cut the tracklisting to single album length. Even though people rate Either/Or a lot, I personally am keen on the From a Basement on a Hill era. The album itself is gorgeous but the outtakes such as From A Poisoned Well, Let's Turn the Record Over and See You in Heaven are simply amazing.

Thanks for mentioning it, I'm curious to hear it. I must confess "From a Basement on the Hill" is the only Smith's album I haven't heard fully (I know just a few songs from it). I'd give it a listen soon (and the outtakes aswell). I do think "Either/Or" is his best album. I rate "XO" a lot aswell, but Either/Or us the one with that has the less fillers. What's your fav' Elliott's tune ?

Remember Jet? (the australian band that nobody seems to like except me) Well they reunited and played again two days ago, and are going to play again tonight, but there is no video footage whatsoever in the web. Not a single crappy-phone-recorded youtube video. All I can find is this: GalleryAm I alone in this?

The Grand Mal collection has been remastered and compiled in 2012, the other one is a bit newer compilation that goes in chronological order and doesn't have that much editing. FOBAH was the last Elliott album I got into, too. I was a bit suprised when I first heard it. It's a bit messier and uglier in places compared to his earlier work but somehow the production/arrangements suit the songs, eg. King's Crossing. What it comes to Either/Or vs. XO I'd say XO has less fillers. But that is not to say that I don't like E/O! It has undoubtly some of his best work - Angles, Between the Bars, Speed Trials, Punch & Judy... It's the culmination of the first phase of his solo career where he was at the top of his game! And of course XO kind of marks the end of that indie era for Elliott, the arrangements grew bigger and the production became much clearer. But I think that's one of the main reasons I prefer XO: it has the best of both worlds - the crisp production and yet the intimacy of his earlier work. What it comes to my favourite Elliott tune I think I have to go with Angeles. It's just that good! But then again I've always been keen on Everything Means Nothing to Me, Tomorrow Tomorrow and I Didn't Understand. What's yours?

My favourite Smith's tune is either Say Yes or Miss Misery (early version). I'do go for the first one. Waltz #2 and Between The Bars wouldn't be too far behind.

One of the greatest songs of all time. Yes, I'm serious. She's written many of the greatest songs of all time. Could you give some examples? I like about five more of her songs (have heard FAR from everything she's done), but I wouldn't rank any of those as being "greatest of all time-contenders."

I've recently discovered this Australian band named The Paper Kites. Their latest record is really, really good... I genuinely love these two tracks (Electric Indigo and Revelator Eyes). Moody and reflective tunes with dense '80s drumbeats and addictive, gentle guitar riffs. The videos are very well filmed too.

The first album was pretty good. They put out a second one in 2006 called Shine On, which i actually liked better. It has a white album feel but still very much is Jet. I still do enjoy it. After that, I think they put out a third record which flopped critically or in sales and didn't hear anything more about them until this thread.
