Hey The Escapist you ever listened to The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails before? It's a pretty long album (103:39) but it's got a lot of stuff going for it which might just be up your street. As you can expect from an industrial outfit it's often quite aggressive and pummeling but it frequently incorporates piano work, orchestration, ambient soundscapes and electronic beats. It's certainly not a happy album but it can be genuinely pretty at times. As long as it is I'd definitely recommend that you go in and just listen to it front to back. Alan Moulder (of Shoegaze fame) co-produced and mixed it and Bob Ezrin (producer of The Wall) assisted in its sequencing. Just a suggestion. Oh yeah, something I forgot to mention. This record has one of the most painfully Pitchforky reviews Pitchfork ever shat out. When you check twitter and you see the writer of this 17 year old review still referencing the hatred of it you know it's worth your time. Literally posted an hour ago - haha. It's the same freak who wrote the Kid A one.

I say give her a chance. She's a remarkable actress. Not exactly the best example since she's portraying an actual person, but I remember her late ex-husband Heath Ledger was crapped on all over internet forums when they cast him as the Joker for The Dark Knight. Turns out his performance was phenomenal. People can definitely surprise you with their acting range.

Listened to Richard Ashcroft's latest earlier this week and I'm really quite happy with it. It's one of his strongest. The second half is absolutely solid, and the first half is pretty decent. The only track i'm not keen on is the title track. Otherwise, its a pretty strong record.
Also listened to his United Nations of Sound and while it does deservedly get a lot of criticism, I have to say that the album starts off with the 3 weakest songs (are you Ready, Born Again, America) which showcase the worst parts of this UNOS project. There are some pretty good tracks on there in the second half (How Deep is Your Man?, Life Can be so Beautiful, Third Eye, Good Lovin, Let my Soul Rest) but it does take a while to warm up to. Definitely his least best solo album but still not without any value.

I've seen them 3 times - Eurosonic in 2013, Ekko in 2013 and Bitterzoet in 2014 and as I told you before, Pauw supported them in Ekko in 2013. Front man/singer James used to be a band called The Moons (by Weller's keyboard player Andy Crofts) and The Moons supported Beady Eye at HMH in 2011. Shortly after he left the band and formed Temples. They were talk of the town when they released their first EP and I went to Eurosonic in Groningen especially to see them. It was freezing in January 2013 and they played in an attic of a local pub. It was packed and everybody had to wait outside until somebody came out, so 2 people out, 2 people in, then 4 people out, 4 people in.

Interesting to read the story about the formation and live performances. Small venues can be very intimate, and very memorable. Thanks for sharing such a experience. Curious what their next album will bring. First things first; getting the first one...

She doesn't look the part but she a great actress. Been nominated for an Oscar three times. yeah, I've seen a few of her movies. she's not a bad actress but it's certainly hard to picture her playing Janis Joplin. She played Marilyn, which is probably the furthest from Janis you'll gonna get I would have preferred someone who looks a bit like her and sings in a similar way. Maybe a current singer who admires her. Or someone like whoever is in those theater plays doing the rounds in the US. Of course they are not popular box office actresses, which I'm guessing is more important for the people making this movie.

what actually happened to the killers?
their first album hot fuss is absolute top quality, been listening to it again and every song is pretty good, they came up with a nice futuristic sound that at the same time retained a lot of stuff that didnt stray too far from you already know, all their subsequent albums seemed to be really lacking for me, the song quality majorly dipped except for the odd few tunes and they got stuck in a rut of recreating retro sounds from the 80s etc.
they went from a band that couldve seriously been my idea of a 2000s band to follow in the footsteps of oasis etc but they just totally lost their way in creating something new and just became like anything else.
seems like they shoved everything on the first album to get them noticed and then simply couldnt come up with the bulk to actually carry that on to any great degree.
shame.

Sam's Town was still a nice album, though. After that is that things started to go into a true black hole.

Just listened to the first songs of Mötley Crüe's "Shout at the devil" album on YouTube, out of pure curiosity, I wanted to know what they sounded like: Vince Neil sounds EXACTLY like Axl Rose!
Reminds me when I heard Michael Hutchence on an INXS song & thinking that if it were a blind test I'd have sworn it was an unreleased Jagger song.
That being said, vocal similarities apart, Mötley Crüe & INXS are crap, but that was a foregone conclusion.

What? Michael Hutchence didn't sound like Mick Jagger AT ALL!

Good to see James Hetfield getting a grip again, having a beer and writing some decent riffs without a band psychoterapist help. Been a while.

what actually happened to the killers? I really loved Hot Fuss. I thought they were Brits when I got that album! A great album was that, but I lost interest in them as soon as Brandon Flowers tried to be a Hollywood wannabe.

What? Michael Hutchence didn't sound like Mick Jagger AT ALL! I haven't listened to an entire INXS album, but he most certainly does on "Guns in the sky" & on several other tracks from "Kick" as well! (That being said, "She's the boss" isn't far from INXS musically...)
