Just put "There She Goes". Father's reaction "it sounds like a boy band". I give up... Ask him how many 'girls' he has ever heard boy bands sing about "there she blows again/pulsing through my vein" and see if he gets it Reminds me of ex-Dead Kennedys front man Jello Biafra on the subject of punk (tagging mimmihopps due to our exchanges on the subject ) My dad doesn't understand english at all ahah The thing is, he is too stubborn to admit than a rock band after 1977 can produce great music. He doesn't know The La's, so it's shit in his opinion. The funniest thing is that he digs some awful variety french music, and he keeps saying "since The Beatles, The Stones, The Pink Floyd, everything has been done in rock". It's that narrow minded spirit that keeps keeps people away from mavelous gems like the self titled, The La's. I mean, There She Goes is a PERFECT pop song.

I know a little about Silverchair, mainly their hits and the album Diorama, but it's quit stunning that a 15 years old boy wrote something like Tomorrow, they were only at this age at the time of their debut. Then after that they were one of, if not the only, grunge bands that evolved from grunge to do something different, they went orchestral music with Diorama which is a good album btw. Pearl Jam would never do something like Luv Your Life, instead they keep releasing the same album since 1991. Great Aussie band! Not together anymore unfortunately

I'm still waiting for someone else on this board to discover the joys of Sloan.

I had a male friend who looked exactly like him in past and he could have been Biafra's twin. lubeck, France has got a great band, Air and There She Goes is a timeless perfect pop song.

1 week to go till Queensryche. That said: Does a band own an album title? Geoff Tate needs to change his band's name again me thinks

I wish I was more into modern bands. I'd like to experience the feeling when they put out a new single or album and you get to hear it for the first time. So far Stone Roses and maybe Strokes too made me feel that way.

Only Arctic Monkeys but I haven't heard any album news from them. I've never been into any of those bands (except for AM) you mentioned, I like their music but I've never listened to their albums. I was listening to Arcade Fire last night and thought I probably should check their music more thoroughly. Maybe Radiohead and Bon Iver too.

I put a Arcade Fire playlist in the introductory playlist thread the other day For Bon Iver, I'd just listen to the first album - For Emma, Forever Ago. It's beautiful.

@driver7 and @tjalke, to you young ones, can I recommend my favourite websites/radio stations where I find great (new) music? This is where I discovered The National back in 2007 by listening to their live by an accident. They have lots of brilliant sessions/concert and especially Tiny desk session is fantastic. www.npr.org/music/www.kcrw.com/music/shows/morning-becomes-eclecticwww.nyctaper.com/manchestertaper.co.uk/kexp.org/AND keep en eye on this thread because we have lots of music lovers who have a great taste in music on this forum. There's always great music there if you open your ears and if you search. Good luck!

And it's not that I don't like modern bands. It's just that I don't really "fell in love" with them. Very few bands made me want to listen to their whole discography after hearing them.
But anyway, here are some interesting modern bands I'm currently following:
Libertines Cribs Strokes Strypes Milburn Tame Impala Maximo Park Gallaghers Weller Kasabian The Last Shadow Puppets Arctic Monkeys
So there's actually some bands I still like but I've somehow avoided all the big ones (Radiohead, Arcade Fire etc).

Primal Scream are pretty fucking awesome, eh? I'm currently dancing to Screamadelica as much as you can while seated in a chair in a public place!

My local club has a Disco Night and an 80's Night. Why can't they have a 90's night and have the DJ put on Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Primal Scream, Happy Mondays, Aphex Twin, Girls & Boys, and Fools Gold? Instead they just play that typical EDM shite.
I have heard remixes of Wonderwall while on the dance floor, though, so that kind of makes up for it.

New Deep Sea Arcade single! I think I got into the band after someone posted about them on this forum, they toured with Noel in 2011 and their debut is brillant. Took them a while, but now they're back -

The Jam are one of my 3 life time bands and All Mod Cons is my second favourite The Jam album. After all these years, it's still great and the greatness never fades away.

I had a the compilation of The Jam called Gold. 49 songs or something like that, I liked it but never got into them. I bought that cd because Liam covered Carnation and Noel To Be Someone and The Butterfly Collector. I really liked The Dreams of Children.

Been listening to Weller a lot lately. I really think he shoudl do another Days of Speed kind of acoustic only tour. He's got more than enough songs to showcase, especially since the last one was 15 years ago.

He's got more than enough songs to showcase, especially since the last one was 15 years ago. He's done an acoustic gig with Steve Cradock at Paradiso in 2007. It was my second Weller solo gig and my first ever seated gig. Back then still unknown Amy MacDonald supported them and she was giving people in the queue outside her promo single for free. It was a brilliant gig despite there was annoying drunken Brits fans who were standing at front of the stage during the gig and ignored all the other people in the venue to sit down. Weller self got mad at them when they were so loud while he was checking his guitar. He recognised me when I met him before the gig last time and he gave me a big hug. He's a "changing man" who always moves forward.

What a beautiful song this is:
It has a little bit of the acoustic nature of Houses of the Holy but yet, still sounds like the riff heavy-Zeppelin that most people know with some of the fills and light string arrangements.

That's probably my favourite Led Zeppelin album. Not that keen on No Quarter but the rest of it is fantastic. Acid just oozes out of the speakers with The Song Remains the Same, Over the Hills and The Oceans are such underrated gems, Dancing Days has Plant soundign almost possessed, and can you think of a song with shittier lyrics that is brilliant musically like Dyer Maker?

Ratings Saturday night: Lord-9/10 Queensryche-9/10
Didn't see the band before Lord. Mini review:
Lord-Ironically the only show in Australia this year on the back of ProgPower a couple of months ago, Lord (sans Andy Dowling, who Tim said was 'selfishly on his honeymoon in Prague drinking beer') were solid, highlight of the set was Set (no pun) in Stone, and their cover of Creeping Death (lead vocals by Furtner) was unexpected, but then again Lord are always unexpectful in the times I've seen them.
Queenryche- I think about a small number were there in curiosity about what Todd could do. Good set, except some asshat stole my phone. They could however do with some heavier material as they seemed to do more ballads (I have nothing against them but even a band like Blind Guardian last year did more heavier stuff mixed in). Todd was the perfect replacement for Geoff.

Question for everyone: what's the worst album that you have willingly listened to?
