Question for everyone: what's the worst album that you have willingly listened to? The last Nicki Minaj album. I was fooled by her verse on Monster, and I payed the price. Torturous.

Question for everyone: what's the worst album that you have willingly listened to? Beach Boys - Summer In Paradise. I read it was one of the worst albums ever made, so I was intrigued to see just how bad it was and gave it a spin. Makes me despise Mike Love even more. That guy has no shame.

Agreed. It's like Coldplay's Heathen Chemistry but much, much worse. AHFOD, Birds, Adventure of a Lifetime, and Up&Up are good though.

It's a triple way tie between United Nations of Sound, Different Gear, Still Speeding, and A Head Full of Dreams. Honestly, these albums look like masterpieces compared to that Beach Boys one! I haven't heard this Beach Boys album you speak of, but it can't be worse than UNOS. The album is absolutely shocking.

Honestly, these albums look like masterpieces compared to that Beach Boys one! I haven't heard this Beach Boys album you speak of, but it can't be worse than UNOS. The album is absolutely shocking. I've not actually heard UNOS as I've never really been interested in Ashcroft's solo career, but it cannot surely be worse than this. I dare you to listen, and unfortunately, watch. Mike Love is not just a complete arsehole, but tops it off by being a creepy arsehole. It's so incredibly bound up in his ego that he uses the word 'love' as a double entendre for himself. The comments sections on YouTube are hilarious but the most pertinent quote that states 'This is Mike Love's Pet Sounds'. It's no wonder Brian Wilson had a mental breakdown. Although he doesn't appear on the album, he was tragically drafted in to this video. I doubt there has ever been a greater desecration of a band than when Mike Love took control of The Beach Boys. Hardcore fans of a band often defend band members to the nth degree, but Mike Love is literally indefensible with his misdemeanours from even the most hardcore Beach Boys fans. Reading up on this album is actually fascinating in its very own 'car crash at the side of the road' kind of way. When we're so used to reading the appraisals and sales of great albums, we tend to overlook the absolute disasters of music history, so reading about this album is actually fascinating in its very own 'car crash at the side of the road' kind of way. The album sold fewer than a thousand copies on its release in August 1992, despite the Mike Love asserting it had sold 145,000 copies (which turned out to merely be the shipments of CDs that had been delivered to stores across the US!). There was only ever one pressing of the CD and what with the disastrous sales, it is very very difficult to track down - I can only imagine a landfill site in America is full to the brim with them all, ala the ET video game. With it being difficult to track down a copy, and due to its reputation as an abomination which has given it a perverse novelty factor, a CD of this album would cost you a bomb.

Funny you should write this post as I listen to Pet Sounds right now. It's a terrific album, and I was surprised to learn from the recent Beach Boys film ('Mercy Something? Can't remember - it was great though - oh yes, 'Love and Mercy') that Mike Love (the chap with the beard?) was so against this album and its adventurous approach to record making. I didn't know Mike Love was such a tool otherwise though!

I didn't know Mike Love was such a tool otherwise though! Mike always thought more in a commercial way, trying to have the lyrics about boy/girl things. He couldn't see eye to eye with someone like Van Dyke Parks (lyricist for Smile). His problem with Pet Sounds was mostly Hang On To Your Ego though. He seemed to have much more of a problem with the Smile Sessions. How he ever agreed to do Smiley Smile is a mystery though. Mike Love is one of the biggest tools in rock music. Just listen to his speech when they were inducted into the R&R Hall Of Fame in 1988. He also gets a lot of undeserved shit though. I read his book and it was good, but he constantly has the need to defend himself and the way he talks about the Wilsons..he thinks of himself as being so enlightened and superior and blames everything on their drug use. Even when he says nice things it sounds so forced. And the way he talks about Brian is almost downgrading, as if he is a poor helpless child who can't even think for himself. Love and Mercy is a great movie btw, indeed. Paul Dano really shines. The guy who plays Mike is really good too, but they could've done a better job with the casting for the other Beach Boys. I mean, "Al Jardine" is taller than "Brian"!

This is one of those "so bad it's good" kinda songs for me.
"Give me sunshine water and an ozone layer/" Gotta love these political lyrics. Bruce Johnston's cow shirt is hilarious aswell.

That Beach Boys album sounds so bad, it has to be a pisstake. The issue with UNOS is that Richard legitimately thought it was great even better than Forth! Jesus!
The 'Summer of Love' lyrics are hilarious, but 'Born Again' is appalling and just downright uncomfortable.
"Cancel my subscription to the resurrection"
Nope.
To think a guy who wrote Appalachian Springs just a couple years earlier downgraded to this drivel is just crazy. The album is the sound of a man at rock bottom.

Being out as of lately has been a hotbed for hearing some of my favorite bands. No Oasis, but I've heard RHCP's Dark Necessities, when I was at a restaurant on Tuesday, and Go Robot at the college I was visiting. Then in Sears, I heard Princess of China. Although it was that song, and not something more Oldplay-like, it was still nice to hear Coldplay in that setting.

Heard Girlfriend in a Coma and Suedehead back-to-back today in a restaurant. I knew that there were Smiths fans somewhere in America!

I think I've never listened to Comfortably Numb without getting chills during the guitar solo.

I think I've never listened to Comfortably Numb without getting chills during the guitar solo. Which one? The first one is great but I meant the outro solo. Especially that moment at 5:50 (or close) when he moves to very high notes. I wouldn't mind trying some weed while listening to Pink Floyd. Well, it's actually in my to-do list, when I get a chance

Anyone else as excited for those Verve reissues as much as I am? Let's break down what they will probably contain: ASIH: Disc 1: original album Disc 2: 1. All in the Mind 2. One Way to Go 3. A Man Called Sun 4. She's a Superstar 5. Feel 6. Gravity Grave 7. Endless Life 8. A Man Called Sun (live) 9. Gravity Grave (live encore) 10 - 15. Voyager 1 EP Disc 3: No Come Down compilation album, plus Virtual World (acoustic) Disc 4: Maybe the Wigan demos in better quality, or anything we haven't heard before. I suppose there's a studio version of South Pacific floating around? Maybe another song we haven't heard of, or studio outtakes? They must have hours and hours of jams, so there must be some amazing bits in there that can be released. I'd be cool if they released a bunch of long jam excerpts à la The Thaw Session and made that Disc 4. There are few things from this era that weren't magical. ANS: Disc 1: original album Disc 2: 1. Let the Damage Begin 2. You and Me 3. I See the Door 4. Little Gem 5. Dance on Your Bones 6. Back on My Feet Again 7. On Your Own (acoustic) 8. Monkey Magic 9. Grey Skies 10. Life's Not a Rehearsal 11. Country Song (ANS version, as the BSS b-side was recorded during the ANS sessions but later received overdubs) Disc 3: Unreleased songs like Change My Life and Black and Blue? Early versions of The Mover, Come On, and The Rolling People? Jam excerpts? Rough mixes? Obviously there must be a UH reissue also in the works, and the UH demos are a must. Even a Forth reissue would be top, there's an unreleased song called Mona Lisa, a "psychedelic" version of Rather Be, and a proper release for The Mover and Blue Pacific Ocean to be had! Suddenly the BHN reissue doesn't seem so exciting. Update for any interested Verve fans: -There is a studio version of South Pacific, but it's reportedly quite different from the live version we know and love. -Cannabis Creek is the name of an ASIH outtake, apparently it was this one and not Butterfly that was based around a Steely Dan sample. Hope that doesn't prevent it from being released! -All Ways Are Maybes is the name of a UH outtake that late Verve manager Jazz Summers called single-worthy. I think Nick also mentioned that it was the best track from that era that was never released. -Other UH-era titles known are Go Your Way, Music, Birds Fly to Warmer Climates, which appeared on a demo tape called "Top Secret Demos Sept 96" Most likely Richard tunes. Hope the songs are better than the titles. -Alone with Everybody track Brave New World wss apparently demoed with The Verve (though the "demo" uploaded to YouTube sounds fake to me), presumably during the UH sessions. -Mona Lisa, a Forth outtake, allegedly sounds a lot like Slade's Cum On Feel the Noize and (in the words of Nick McCabe) has a verse about Richard's dog, wtf? Funny how the things you post on an Oasis forum end up on other sites! Now I feel famous! verveunofficial.freeforums.org/interesting-stuff-that-should-be-released-t2705.html
