This man is 84 years old and he's still able to compose memorable movie themes. John Williams embodies the history of soundtrack music.

Anyone else heard of the Spanish band Stay? They're a very Britpop-esque sounding psychedelic band, with strong Ride influences as well as a bit of traditional Spanish music. Owen Morris produced their latest album, and Andy Bell played guitar on a few songs. Most of you will probably like them, listen below!

I agree. What's often meant with sell out though, is how bands change their sound to be more generic and commercial, thus to connect to a larger audience. The term "sell out" just isn't right for it's description. That's why I don't mind it when artists say they're doing it for the money. Yes, you're doing it for the money, we all work for money. I think about 80% of this forum still bash Noel Gallagher for releasing albums that will do well in sales instead of committing commercial suicide by releasing a psychedelic space jazz opera...

I really want to like Blur but the lyrics are so bad, I'd even rather listen to BDI. What a shame. Then again, this explains why my ex liked Blur (we had Blur vs. Oasis fights before I even knew about the Oasis vs. Blur feud), his taste in everything but ex girlfriends sucks donkey ass.

Did Toni Basil rip off Cum On feel the noize with Mickey? It was actually written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn of Glam Rock writing partnership 'Chinnichap Productions' under the title 'Kitty' and recorded by the UK band Racey I suppose it has elements of Glam like Slade, but I can't hear a complete take off of it myself.

I'm a bit too obsessed with Blur right now. And I haven't heard Think Tank or The Magic Whip yet and I've barely scraped the surface with their b-sides!

Now I'm really tempted to go to that Flow Festival next month. Morrissey, The Last Shadow Puppets, M83, Chvrches and The Kills all perfoming the same day. I have just one problem... None of my friends are listening to those artists so they probably can't be arsed to come with me.

And also, when is going to a gig alone more fitting than when it's Morrissey who is playing/singing?

Anyone like Boston here? Their self-titled album from 1976 is so good. Haven't heard other albums, though. brad delp (the former lead singer) had one of the greatest all-time voices in rock and roll. and he was a gentle, down-to-earth sweetheart of a guy too. what a lot of people elsewhere in the world don't know is he was an avid beatles fan, and even fronted a wildly popular local beatles cover band here in the area for many years before he committed suicide.

I don't usually like post-punk but The Cure and The Smiths are great bands. Disintegration is probably one of the best albums ever released (I attempted to order it at one point but it got lost in shipping and I ordered my first Oasis albums instead of reordering Disintegration)

I dunno if it's just me but I can hear some heavy Ride influences in there. Beautiful tune, musically their best by a long shot.

They can't find you now, But they're gonna get their money back somehow, And when you finally disappear, They'll just say you were never here.
Working for the church while your life falls apart, Singing hallelujah with fear in your heart. Every spark of friendship and love will die Without a home.

In an age of mass consumption, digital distribution, personalisation, and music playlists, you'd think that the music industry would shift their focus away from the cohesive album and instead encourage artists to release as much material as possible (even cheeky throwaways like Here's a Candle), and leave imaginative fans like The Escapist to create their own running order for the songs. Instead we see a decreasing number of songs being released at a time, and the concept of b-sides and bonus tracks rapidly becoming obsolete. I can't find any reason for this phenomenon other than possible laziness on behalf of bands, who see no reason to record additional material if they no longer have to give an incentive for people to buy their CD singles.
