I'm in love with 'There She Goes' all over again.
I love that feeling where it feels like you heard a song for the first time again.

Happy birthday to another album that's considered to be one of the best ever. Happy 49th birthday to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by that one band from Liverpool!

I listened to The Fall and The Pop Group the last couple of days. Now I know why Captain Beefheart is considered a huge "influence" on post-punk

Is that true that story about The Fall that Mark E. Smith would hire a guitarist only if the person didn't know how to play a guitar, and if this person in the band learned how to play, he would get fired?
I love this song by The Fall.

I think that's one of those apocryphal tales that has been built up surrounding Mark- there is no doubt he makes some of his own myth, claiming he sacked Marc Riley on his Wedding day, although Riley was married on 24th December 1982 and says he was sacked by telephone in January 1983. In January 2006 Dave Simpson had a go at tracking down all the ex-Fall members for The Guardian- Dave Simpson- Guardian Article He did discover amongst other things that the first drummer ever in the fall lasted one gig and died aged around 40 under a train, having sadly been a schizophrenic- The Mystery First Fall Drummer so it does seem chaos was a part of the band both mentally and physically from day one. Mark's ex-guitarist and ex-wife Brix Smith forged a career away from music, notably with Gok Wan and onto further work for both major TV broadcasters and minor networks.

I'd be happy with any new Ride material even if it's just a bunch of Beady Eye covers.

I'd be happy with any new Ride material even if it's just a bunch of Beady Eye covers. That actually sounds bizarrely intriguing.... In their current state, Kill for a Dream and The Beat Goes On are some of the most painfully generic songs ever written by Andy. With layers of shoegaze guitars, they could be Ride classics. The great thing about shoegaze is that nobody cares about shit lyrics because you can barely hear them anyway.

By the look of that picture of The Stones above, they were probably just bringing Bridges To Babylon out. Now, as shit as that album was and is, it still sold over a million in the US, and they promoted it with a thwacking great tour around the world as well. All that stuff feeds into the ego - so you've got Keef thinking he still looks the bollocks, with his leopard print shirt brushed aside so we can see his nipples (cheers for that Keef!), and Mick teasing the camera with his thumbs in his kecks, as if he's about to pull em down. But with Liam, whenever he's been on a stage in recent years, it's as if he can't wait to get off again. So yeah, Liam may have a strange taste in jumpers, but I don't think we'll see him pulling the kind of shit Mick and Keef were above. Not while things are as they are with him, anyway.

Morrissey is coming to Berlin in August. I can't believe it and I can't remember when I was as happy as when I read it. I missed the last two German tours and finally, I get the chance to see him. Anyone else going?

Anyone else sometimes feel overwhelmed by the amount of music out there? I've been itching to check out/delve deeper into the Cure, Pulp, Placebo, Flying Lotus, Modeselektor, Grizzly Bear, the Buzzcocks, Mogwai, and even the Stones, Pink Floyd, the Who, and many many more because I've heard that they're good. But I don't usually have the time to explore all of these artists. I find it impossible to listen to five different albums by five different artists all in the same week, or even the same month, and, when I happen to fall into that practice it feels like I'm desperately searching for that "wow" factor, that high, that sense of wonder from listening to great music for the first time. I get the feeling that I don't digest songs as quickly as most of you. Which leads me to my question to all of you: how many bands have you listened to within the last week?
