The Lemon Twigs really are the best American band right now. Gives me so much Sunshine pop vibes from the late 60's. Great harmonies. Like The Left Banke, Sagittarius, Beach Boys, Monkeys. hell. throw in some Beatles there as well.. REALLY looking forward to their new album. The two singles that are out are killer! Catchy Was gonna post that ! Such an underrated band. The videos are hilarious, the songs are great. Those two brothers are geniuses whatever instrument they touch. They write, produced and performs everything themselves, and yet the world doesn't seem to care. shame. Huge band.

Blind Guardian truly were special. Finishing the set with Welcome to dying and including my all time favourite from Imaginations From The other side in the set made me happy (Its true, we ARE all born in a mourning hall) Edit: Bards song which was preceded by kicking out banter and the reason I have a crappy throat and Hansi via security giving me a pick (no one was) Also thanks to whoever in the Metro allowed them to run past midnight (or our Premier is one of us as a fellow VIP would say). Last time they were there they were booted out at midnight.

Yeah it's an amazing record. I gotta say after the last one which was very glam it was a bit of a shock and it took me a few listens to get into it but now i love it. hope to see them live someday too.

Such a sweet thing to do with a loved one. You're lucky my friend !
That in blue though, is almost ban worthy. Pet Sounds' melodies are heavenly, I still can't believe Brian Wilson wrote it all. Absolute genius album, from start to finish.
Which Stevie Wonder album did you listen to ? I've heard Pet Sounds countless times over the years but as usual I go on a massive band kick occasionally and this time it was The Beach Boys - Don't Talk has to be the most underrated song of the 60s? Nothing before and after has sounded like it. Love song from another dimension. Oh yes, Don't Talk is one of my favourite songs on it ! Incredible melody, first time I heard it I had shivers all over my body. Very unique as you said.

I love this new one. I can hear echoes from Pet Sounds, Velvet Underground, Nancy Sinatra...

I forgot how nice it is listening to R.E.M.Β I like them (not love them) but their last two albums, Accelerate and Collapse into Now, were fantastic. Loved those.

Maybe the most underrated band EVER. I've been listening to Reckoning a lot lately. How understatedly brilliant is that record? All those IRS albums were fantastic. I think Fables of the Reconstruction is one of the most masterful hidden gems ever. I've always loved its southern gothic feel, perhaps their most evocative album. Definitely their most 'American' record if that makes sense.

Imagine if The Smiths' self-titled debut album had had this tracklisting... A1. Reel Around the Fountain A2. This Charming Man A3. Pretty Girls Make Graves A4. What Difference Does It Make? A5. The Hand That Rocks the Cradle B1. Still Ill B2. Hand in Glove B3. You've Got Everything Now B4. I Don't Owe You Anything B5. Suffer Little Children I think that would've been killer-diller! About as good as that album could have been without re-recording it all a third time.
'Miserable Lie' could've been kept back for the 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' single, released three months later. That way they wouldn't have had to re-release 'Suffer Little Children' to fill the quota of two B-sides for every A-side. And it would've got the song out the way. I don't think it was even remotely good enough for an album. Especially not when gems such as 'Handsome Devil', 'Jeane', 'Accept Yourself', 'These Things Take Time' and 'Back to the Old House' had been B-sides.
I think 99% of all Smiths songs were at the very least 8/10 in quality. But Miserable Lie is my least favourite and probably the only Smiths song I don't like. I think it's a horrendous recording, hard to believe they were in a studio paying good money to record that. It's unbelievably tinny and not a fan of Morrissey's shrieking in the second half. The only song of theirs where I think nothing works.

I didn't know that Justin Currie from Del Amitri had Parkinsons desease. That's a shame as I like some of their songs from the 90s.

Yeah, it's sad that he was also in The Waterboys and I've always loved their Whole Of The Moon song. It was originally released as a single in the 80s but was re-released around 1991 time and that's when it had more success I think. Anyway, R'I.P

Not really heard anything mentioned about The Last Dinner Party on this forum yet. They seem to have blown up massively over the last 11 months. They've got 5.3m listeners on Spotify which for a new indie band is huge (more than double that of Wet Leg, probably the last UK indie act that blew up).
Fans or not, I'm sure there's lots of people here who are aware of them in some capacity, but for those who don't yet they get compared to Kate Bush and Florence & the Machine alot (but I've also heard Sparks, Queen & ABBA mentioned too). They're definitely not gonna be for everyone (I'm sure some here will really dislike them) but who is?
Their debut single 'Nothing Matters', which they released last year, was (rightly, imo) considered a bit of an instant classic. Since then they've released a handful more singles and last month their debut album, which has received by and large some very positive reviews.
So, what are people's thoughts on the band? I can think of some people on here who I'd have thought anthemic, escapist, baroque-pop would likely appeal to them. Personally, I'm a big fan of 'Nothing Matters', 'Sinner' and 'My Lady of Mercy'. The choruses to 'Burnt Alive' and the 'Caesar on a TV Screen' are great and overall, although it's not quite my thing, the rest of album seems pretty solid. Anyway I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on them (musically speaking that is).
