Different Gear has some tunes I absolutely love, but the low points are the lowest of any Oasis-related album. I'm not in love with Noel's current direction, but at least the production's interesting. Tracks like BTL and B&S aren't "bad" per se, but they're boring, which might be worse.
BE is just a massive step up in almost every respect.

BE is just a massive step up in almost every respect. There's repetition and there's filler. Man after the first sólo of Bring the light there's no new element in the song to keep it fresh, and that wouldnt be an issue if the songs were better. Live performances worked extra stuff into songs that made them better. I think Beady Eye could've toured for a little while to road test the songs and make them better. But thats a luxury you can have as an unknown band.

Within BE, there lies a good album in the first seven tracks, Start Anew, Off at the Next Exit, Back at the Break, and Evil Eye. It is just a real shame they didn't make such an album a reality.

Now playing... Say it quietly, but I think I prefer this re-imagined version of BE to Why Me, Why Not.

Now playing... Say it quietly, but I think I prefer this re-imagined version of BE to Why Me, Why Not. Take out Shine a Light, in favor of The World's Not Set in Stone, and you got me on-board. Why Me, Why Not has some stellar songs (Once, One of Us) but a lot of it blends together for me and there isn't as much variation as AYW. Still a good album, but so is BE when done right. It's a shame that they messed up BE because that could've been a breakthrough album with some better choices overall.

Now playing... Say it quietly, but I think I prefer this re-imagined version of BE to Why Me, Why Not. Same here. I like Why Me Why Not but I'll always have a soft spot for BE: the production, listened to it alot when I first became a fan, and still has my favorite Liam tune Start Anew. And carlober is right, Shine A Light is underrated, as is Don't Bother Me, a wonderful transcendent outro.

BE is an excellent album but it really should've been called Universal Gleam. That name would've matched the vibes of it.

BE is more innovative, interesting, and daring then anything the Gallagers ever released.

Overshadowed by SOTSOG, but not forgotten - DGSS turn 9 today. I, for one, like this record. It’s rather different from what we got from Oasis, a bit more 60’s and a bit more laid back. I have no huge personal issue with the production either, although it has to be said that Two of a Kind must be the worst produced song ever. It’s also 13 songs long plus the B-sides, which is certainly more than the usual length, but it works well enough for me. It’s just that the aesthetics of the album were terrible and Liam’s live voice was the worst it’s ever been during this period. Proud that he recovered from that nasally mess. Anyway, although I think BE was the better effort, I listen to DGSS fairly regularly. It’s high time I got a CD copy!!

I think people actually forget how good Liam sounded at the beginning of the DGSS tour, some of my favourite live vocals he's done personally.

I think people actually forget how good Liam sounded at the beginning of the DGSS tour, some of my favourite live vocals he's done personally. He still sounded way too Nasal and Kermitey back then. The only thing that was an upgrade in the beginning of the DGSS tour was the fact he had more power and could hold notes a bit more, but his tone was still abysmal. You can see that in those clips, specially the Beat Goes On one where he has the kermit voice going in many lines. I only started noticing a clear upgrade in the tone departament come the few 2014 gigs Beady Eye did. There are some clips in YouTube if memory does not fail me. And obvioulsly since he turned solo it's really a night and day difference.
Amazingly, now we have this:
How he has turned it around I don' t know but this is incredible. Shits all over the last Gas Panic performances he did during the HC tour.

Listening to their Maida Vale Session from 23d February 2011 as I type. It was just before their first European tour and Liam sounded really good. It seems like a long long time ago, seeing them in a packed Paradiso.
