Dead In The Water is such a beautiful tune but I never really understood what it's about. Nothing to do with the lyrics, I'm just always taken away with its beauty and it's something I never focussed on (like most songs for me).
But I read an interpretation of what it means that makes so much sense now, claiming it's about not giving up on the quest for love and happiness in your life. Not about any individual in particular but life in general and the desire and determination to reclaim happiness previously felt during a desolate time.
That really hits hard because not many song writers write like that so effectively. Not to demean these feelings, but I do feel that such is the egotistical ways of artists, so many songs just love to delve into pity to the point of self-indulgence. Noel never does that, and Dead In The Water encapsulates all that's great about his songwriting. He's always positive, uplifting and optimistic but always with the realisation that there are depressing times so its tempered with reality. It's where all sunny popsters fail, and it's where all the miserabilists fail - they can never achieve the balance that Noel does. The recovery of all that's good in life even when it can fall to shit. Maybe it's why some smart arses and hipsters are easy to dismiss Noel's songwriting - such is their egotistical, individualist outlook, they could never relate to a songwriter that makes sure it's never always me, me, me.

I'm not sure if the drummer is Chris or not it's hard to tell in the picture. But yeah, it does look like a live set up.

It was Jessica but she took them down now, it was just small vids (no sound) of the band playing

I follow her but hadn’t seen them while she still had them up! I’d guess they’re live stuff though, not recording an album. He’s got some live stuff coming up (Sky Arts, Jools Holland etc.) so I imagine they’re doing all that stuff at the moment. |
