I'm starting to suspect that Sunday Morning Call is pretty drab no matter what you do to it. Sunday Morning Call has some of Noels best lyrics. The only problem with it is that it followed on from Where Did It All Go Wrong and if it had been earlier in the album with Liam sung songs either side, it wouldn't be a problem I feel. Besides, I think the production on the track suits the mood of the song Abso-bloody-exactly!

So, would it just be really stupid to suggest that if someone on here with an electric guitar played some of the parts from DYKWIM then we could dub/mix it into the rethink to make it sound a little more dense?

I wonder if there is a link between 'Champagne Supernova' and Paul Weller's 'The Changingman'? It's near enough the same chord progression just in a different key and it in itself is the same as 'Dear Prudence' (again just in a different key). Hence why they link up pretty seamlessly. (Bonus fact: The guitar riff from 'The Changingman' was taken directly from ELO's ' 10538 Overture'.) I believe Noel and Paul would have met by this point. 'The Changingman' was demoed on the 8th September 1994 and it would have been around this time 'Champagne Supernova' would have been written. You can hear it being played in a soundcheck here on the 19th October 1994. Coincidence or not, 'The Changingman' was written by both Paul Weller and Brendan Lynch the former of which was brought in to play on 'Champagne Supernova' and the latter to then create and alternative mix and remix of the song. Hmm...

Not at all. Unfortunately I can't really help though The best I managed when I tried to do it was a mono loop of the rhythm electric guitar with a shaker in the background, a bunch of artifacts and a sliding electric guitar sound going through it. It required a lot of stitching together but unfortunately it's pretty trash. You're welcome to it if you want to have an experiment with it. https%3A//soundcloud.com/jdm93-1/temporary-upload-dykwim-rhythm-electric-guitar-loopsoundcloud.com/jdm93-1/temporary-upload-dykwim-rhythm-electric-guitar-loopThe weird lead guitar sounds in the first verse can be accessed through OOPSing the original.

Are they the verse chords or the bridge/chorus? To be honest I quite enjoy the sleek, bassy verses of the rethink, I think it's the other parts of the track that need to be thickened.

That's the verse. I can help in regards of the lead guitar line which is in fact the reverse of what's playing during the outro. Not sure I've really got anything for the rhythm guitar. https%3A//soundcloud.com/jdm93-1/temporary-dykwim-lead-electric-guitar-loop-updatesoundcloud.com/jdm93-1/temporary-dykwim-lead-electric-guitar-loop-update
Edit: I've updated it for you to remove that annoying clipping sound which was made from poorly stitched together segments - Sounds all good now

Unfortunately my laptop is fucked at the moment and I can't even download pictures, so music editing software is off the cards, but after Christmas I'll definitely look into it. If someone could play/provide the guitar lines from the original that play the string melodies, that would be amazing too - always liked the sound of Noel's guitar doing that in the second chorus, and that little string glissando would sound ace mixed with some guitar.

Is the Les Paul in Supersonic music vid Marr's Gibson or Noel's Epiphone? I just watched the video but couldn't see the headstock properly.
For some reason I thought Noel was still playing Epiphone in Glastonbury 1994 but I just realised he was already using Gibson at that point.

So good.
One of the best live Oasis performances for me.

I've been thinking about whether Stand By Me should have been the lead single to Be Here Now. It doesn't have the almighty swagger of DYKWIM, but it would have got massive amounts of airplay with a healthy edit, and that's on both sides of the pond as well. It would have been much more popular with the wider fan-base the band had at the time, and I quite like the idea of the D'You Know What I Mean? only being heard by people for the first time in August 1997 when they first put the CDs in for the third Oasis album, what a great way to get people hyped.

Korean-made from the late '80s or very early '90s.

Bit late to this, but She's Electric absolutely twats Digsy's Dinner. It's quite possibly the best-recorded song Oasis ever did, and I've really come to love it over the years - those guitars just sing!

But it was very popular at the time of release. It sold 400,000 copies. It went #2 only because of horrible events with Princess Diana’s death and Elton John re-writing one of his classics into one of the biggest songs globally in 1997. It was the biggest seller of that year and all time in the UK. And it came out a week before Stand By Me. Stayed at #1 for 5 weeks. Can’t control that. Without that tragedy it’s another mammoth Oasis #1.

Stand By Me is great, but I've always felt the fellas wasted an opportunity with I Hope, I Think, I Know and Don't Go Away. At least as it pertains to the U.S, market anyway.

Without that tragedy it’s another mammoth Oasis #1. That's why it would've been a good lead single, especially with an edit that cut down on the song's repetition and brought it down to around just over 4 minutes long, and might've gained traction after Princess Diana's death given the nature of the song ("Stand by me/nobody knows the way it's gonna be") Stand By Me is great, but I've always felt the fellas wasted an opportunity with I Hope, I Think, I Know and Don't Go Away. At least as it pertains to the U.S, market anyway. Don't Go Away would've been an awesome second single to release before Candle in the Wind 1997 and then I Hope I Think I Know for the third one. Stay Young still stands out to me as one that should've been a single, let alone on Be Here Now, to me.

Sometimes I think to myself, wow Liam and Noel really were just ur average lads from Manchester who became world wide superstar millionaires because of their hard work. Like proper inspirational man, good for them, and if they (Noel) have become out of touch with the common man then fair enough tbh they’ve been richer for longer than they weren’t,so that would obvs cause one to have a different view of the world. Just shows you really can be anything u want to be if u work hard innit.
Too bad I’m a lazy fucker though otherwise I’d be a millionaire superstar too x

I don't know if the 'Noel Gallagher is Dead' rumour from 1997 ever got discussed on here but whilst researching something else I came across a dimly remembered article published in the Irish Times just prior to Be Here Now's release which is reprinted below. A fascinating side note of Oasis history that combines a Beatles-esque (to say the least) theory with quite an elaborate storyline although the "most damning of all" part you would hope it wouldn't take a university Professor to work out Magic Pie and Wonderwall were "sung by two different people"
