All of those are good and could have been great, but the band was confusing back-to-basics for half-arsed at the time. "Basics" for Oasis was loud layers of distorted guitars, simple drums, and great solos - the demo version of The Hindu Times is the only thing that comes close to that from the HC era, and it's easily the best thing about it. Out of those 4, SCYHO is indeed a classic in all fairness.

She Is Love (probably the most beautiful love song I`ve ever heard). Erm...

I definitely agree. They were stuck in between carrying on what had been started with the SOTSOG era with drum loops, electronics, etc. and making a conscious effort to go back to what had been done in the trilogy. The demo version of THT sounds like a nice mix of the two (just wish we could've had Liam do a go on vocals instead), and Force of Nature and Better Man both try to go for it but it just sounds too dad rock-ish and drag on too much; likewise with Probably All in the Mind. Hung in a Bad Place through Songbird sounds like a nice realization of the back to basics sound. Born on a Different Cloud would've sounded really cool on SOTSOG and is alright on HC. I can understand why Alan White was pissed after this era because the drums are mixed pretty low and don't have that necessary punch, which in turn makes the album not as punchy as it needs to be (I honestly fell asleep at around A Quick Peep and Probably All in the Mind during my first full listen to this album; granted it was about 1 or 2 am or so but still...) On the flip side, She is Love, along with Songbird and Heart of a Star, really highlight how nice of a sound was created when the songs were more acoustic guitar-focused and really stripped down. I honestly think those are some of the best-sounding and clearest sounding songs the band did, and I enjoy it. I wish they had gone for that type of an approach on more of the songs on HC, and then combined it with songs like SCYHO, LBL, and THT demo.

Just thinking about the time me and Guigsy went to the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo. Wild times.
It was all about building commercial properties in a environmentally friendly manner. As you might well imagine, these kind of events get the juices flowing. What people don't understand is that you can make great structures out of biodegradable products. In fact, Bamboo and Cork fall under this catogary.
Anyway, Guigsy being the man that he is and passionate about making the world a better place, he got into a heated argument with an industry expert about which is the better building material out of Mycelium and Linoleum. Guigsy ended up offering the man out for a square-go because it got so heated.
Actually, the other guy was in the right I think. Mycelium actually comes from a fungus and is capable of vegetative reproduction, so it has many purposes. Guigsy shouldn't have squared up to the man like that. It's the last time i take him to the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo.

Well, I must admit, Heathen Chemistry is a "black sheep" of Oasis discography for me, as well. And no, I don`t claim that the arrival of Gem and Andy ruined that band, but most of the tunes are just average (especially Songbird, Born on a Different Cloud and Quick Peep), maybe because it was some kind of a transitional album for them, with new band members. And of course that record has absolutely nothing to do with back-to-basics, I`d rather say it was a departure from their 90s sound. Surely the great tracks are Hindu Times, Hung in a Bad Place, Better Man and She Is Love (probably the most beautiful love song I`ve ever heard). Whoa....Born On A Different Cloud is easily one of the best on the album by a mile...how can you think She Is Love is beautiful and Born be an average track?

I personally have never met a female who doesn't like 'She Is Love'. It's a lovely sentiment if nothing else. 'Born on a Different Cloud' gets a bit to much praise in general. It's an average track that gets elevated by default with it's surroundings. If it was on any of the first three records, then it would be one of the worst tracks found there. On Heathen Chemistry it is a bright spot only because outside of the singles there isn't much to get exited about there.

Yeah but it's like someone offering up a plate of dog shit trying to compete with a finely cooked steak. Noel's control over the band has never been more evident than it was with that song. The fact not a single person around the band could pipe up and say "come on, you really think that should go on an album and not the scrap heap?"

The Hindu Times, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Little by Little and Songbird are what Vertigo is for U2.

I remember when Heathen Chemistry first came out I was all over Little By Little but now it's lucky if it gets played. Boring as hell track that wasn't single material in mind...there are 3 other songs from that era I'd have released as a single before that

I always thought Little By Little sounded like a cynical attempt to write a big sing a long track like Don't Look Back In Anger. I don't think it's a bad tune though but a bit cheesy, especially the verse lyrics, they're a bit cringeworthy. I think it was Noel trying too hard to make it into something it isn't.

When I first got into Oasis I loved it but can't remember the last time I heard it. But I do think both LBL and THT get unfair flack on here.
