Any blasphemous opinions anyone would like to share, to make me feel better about mine? Hello >>> Rock 'N' Roll Star and I don't even have to think twice. Not as blasphemous as that ( no worries, I do love Hello to bits) but I've never ever cared for Don't Go Away.

I would almost prefer Stop Crying Your Heart Out, if there was ever a battle of bland ballads.

But I can't come up with any more nice things to say about it

But I can't come up with any more nice things to say about it I do love the chorus, and I love the counter vocals in the verses ('why you scared?' and Noel's ghostly echo responds 'I'm not scared').

SCYHO on the other hand is so sappy for me - I loved it at first when I got into the band, but it hasn't aged well in my mind.

In the last few years of Oasis, Noel's backing vocals started to annoy me. Me too. Everybody always talks about Liam's voice in 2008/09, but I never about Noel's backing vocals. For some reason their harmonies didn't really work anymore, and probably made Liam's voice even sounds worse then it already was.

My favourite version of Slide Away by a mile. Always makes me emotional, I really love those harmonies between Noel and Liam. davidjay is there a Safety Copy of Masters of Morning Glory or Be Here Now? (I hope you know what I mean)

SCYHO on the other hand is so sappy for me - I loved it at first when I got into the band, but it hasn't aged well in my mind. Both of them would have benefited from different arrangements in my opinion. Don't Go Away needed to be much more ethereal and stripped down - just some acoustics and bass around Liam, and then some string and horn flourishes in the second half. That would have been one their greatest ballads for me, as the vocal melody is absolutely gorgeous and Liam's take just knocks it out of the universe. Stop Crying Your Heart Out for me should have been dronier - take out the piano, replace it with ghostly acoustic guitar and placid synths. Keep it atmospheric and dark in the verses - if you want the chorus to get all epic and sentimental, wait until the end.

(I hope you know what I mean) I've recently been wondering about the lyrics to Slide Away. I mean, in the verses he's saying "I wonder where you are now?", while the chorus starts with "now that you're mine...". Am I the only one who's finding this slightly confusing?

This just occurred to me now whilst listening to Go Let It Out for about the tenth time in an hour: that line "taste every potion [...] if you like yourself a lot," could that be Noel reflecting on those crazy days at Supernova Heights when he was taking as many drugs as he could lay his hands, enjoying the spoils of his success?
In fiction potions are said to transform the taker's perceptions and behaviour - just like drugs, then. And "if you like yourself a lot" could be Noel admitting his ego got out of control in the mid-90s...
Just a thought.

STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS 1) Fuckin' in the Bushes 2) Go Let it Out 3) Who Feels Love? 4) Where Did it All Go Wrong? 5) Let's All Make Believe 6) Gas Panic! 7) Sunday Morning Call 8) Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is 9) One Way Road 10) Roll it Over
Better than any post-Oasis album. Really, really, really good.

Edit: www.goodreads.com/quotes/891298-princes-kings-isn-t-it-strange-how-princes-and-kingsDidn’t steal the particular lyric you mention.

(I hope you know what I mean) Sorry, only just seen your post! A safety copy is a straight 1:1 copy of the original master tape, with no mastering processing applied. It's a backup copy made in case the original master gets lost or damaged. For Definitely Maybe, the safety copies (made at Whitfield Street studios onto CD-R) were mainly of the unreleased mixes done by Anjali Dutt at Eden Studios. There are also several instrumentals which I believe are from the Monnow Valley sessions. That's why most of the tracks on the Safety Copy of Masters set sound so different to the commercially-released mix, by Owen Morris. That said, there are several of Owen's mixes on CD-1, and these are unmastered - before they went through his legendary "brickwall box" (an Apogee A/D converter with soft limiting). They're at a lower average signal level than the retail CDs and the dynamics are wider, particularly on Whatever. I'm sure Sony will have made multiple safety copies of the Morning Glory and Be Here Now master tapes, but on playing them you wouldn't hear the kind of dramatic difference you're familiar with from the DM Safety Masters. They would be the same mixes you know from CD, minus all the EQ, compression, and hard limiting applied by the mastering engineer. Where you would probably hear a bigger difference is with the rough mixes. It's Good to Be Free is a rough mix and you can hear it's less processed than most other tracks from that period. Anyway, I hope the above is of some help. Interesting video here, showing Mazen Murad mastering a track at Metropolis studios. He goes through the process step by step.
