If you had to choose one: A. Liam Gallagher in conjunction with Lee Mavers/Johnny Marr/John Squire/Death In Vegas/ AnyoneWho'llWorkWithHimEvenPostmanPatIfItMeansHe'llReleaseNewMaterialB. Be Here Now reissue with Mustique demo's. Easy choice for me gotta be A as much as I like love BHN. What about Dave Sardy?

Even this guy has a better idea about sound production than Dave Sardy: He rocks out with the noo-noo innit.

I love Oasis through and through, being that they're my favorite band and all, but one thing that always gets to me is how Noel recycles the Wonderwall/Talk Tonight/Cast No Shadow/Whatever chord progression (Em7-G-Dsus4-Asus4-Cadd9) so much. I understand that it's a progression that worked in the WTSMG era for many of the good-to-great songs, but I just wish that Noel would've changed things up, especially nowadays, because I can't believe that he is still using that chord progression for rehashes like If I Had a Gun... and The Dying of the Light (sans the G). I enjoy both of those songs, but you would think that 20 years after he first used that progression, he would've moved on by now with his writing.

The songs you quoted are all somehow awesome in their own right and manage to bring something special for me.

Yes NG uses lazy worn out chord progressions but boy what lazy chord progressions.I'd also throw in that he has the most unique strumming pattern/style of any guitar player I know of.

Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders?
Is to me easily Noels most emotional and best vocal ever.
A total hidden gem.

People will think I'm a loon but you probably already think that anyway but here goes nothing... DYKWIM is about Jesus's return to earth I reckon. "Listen up man, they don't even know your born" "Stepping off the train all alone at dawn.. Back into the hole where I was born?" (Stepping back onto earth, the "hole" where he was born) "Coming in a mess (being crucified) going out in style (raised) I ain't good-looking but I'm someone's child" (obvious) A lot of overt religious overtones in that song and not just in the "I met my maker" verse either. Of course I could also be talking a load of rubbish.. I'm sure 70% of Noel's lyrics are supposed to be meaningless rhyming couplets.

Wow, I've always had this strange thought like, wow I wonder if there is anyone else in the world who's thinking the exact same thought as me right now? and it seems this afternoon there was! I was in the car singing at the top of my voice trying to harmonise with Liam's vox (very poorly, be glad there is no audio!). But yeah, my old username was kinda half joking, but be here now does have a lot of biblical references. Must have been Noels Catholic upbringing filtering through to his writing.

Just out of interest how would people perceive the following as an album (ignoring the fact Noel sings far too many and the sound is all over the place)? What I've tried to do is select what I think are some of the better tracks that people regularly express their dislike for and compile it into the ultimate divisive tracklist. Being my selection, naturally, I'm quite the fan of it, but I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts - Is it the same individuals who like or dislike these songs? Will it be evenly split? Is it consistently average? Or is it the biggest shit-fest ever?
1) Shakermaker 2) Mucky Fingers 3) Force Of Nature 4) Roll With It 5) Magic Pie 6) Little By Little 7) Step Out 8) Fade In-Out 9) (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady 10) She Is Love 11) Stop Crying Your Heart Out

The Masterplan has a completely different lyrical theme to any song Noel has ever written. It's got a sort of almost apocalyptic tone to it I feel:
"And as they land upon the shore, tell them not to fear no more".
Actually I'm going to save this for my "The Masterplan Lyrical Analysis/Appreciation thread" which I'm going to make.

FI-O, GOYHHL, and Shakermaker show a blues-ier side to Noel's songwriting, and all sound good imo. RWI is just pure pop fun, and not a bad song. The others... well, Step Out is better live, Force of Nature is a little too Dadrock for me, but that chorus, though. Other than that, the others are either filler (MF), let down by some sort of error in the arranging (MP), or just a complete cheesefest (SIL).

Goes to show how great some of Noel's "throwaways" really are.

I MET MY MAKER, I MADE HIM CRY (yes you did) AND ON MY SHOULDER HE ASKED ME WHY HIS PEOPLE WON'T FLY THROUGH THE STORM I SAID "LISTEN UP MAN, THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW YOUR BORN"Easily one of Noel's best choruses.

Doesn't go anywhere outside the chorus and even when it kicks in, it just repeats the lay me down part. Roll With It is probably my least favorite tune on WTSMG but its Britpop perfection. She is Love and Force of Nature I can't take quite seriously and Mucky Fingers is not as bad as I thought after listening to it recently (aside from its brickwall production). Shakermaker is my least favorite on DM but does it blow away live, especially at the Gleneagles gig:

I've been listening to a lot of DOYS over the past several months - and while I've always liked it, it has continued to grow on me. Shame about the second half, to be sure, but 3 poor songs, with the rest pretty fucking great. And I love the apocalyptic semi-concept album, as well.
What an under appreciated album.

Oasis thought of the day?
Love Noel sung Oasis b-sides. Always have been close to "D'yer Wanna Be A Spaceman" and "It's better people" but recently discovered the brilliance of "One way Road" to. Amazing vocals by Mr. Noel!

Another thought: There should be some more tracks with Liam on backing - it works so fucking well on Fade Away (War Child). Are there any other instances we have of this?

I'm guessing you already know about D'Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman? It's an honest question, because for years I had no clue Liam sung on it tbh. He was supposed to do some for Going Nowhere, but got the arse when Noel and Owen Morris started taking the piss out of him for some reason.

Amazing vocals by Mr. Noel! I don't get One Way Road. It's one of only a select few Oasis songs that I don't get. It's plodding, cliched, and goes nowhere. I can't even relate to it, and it's trying so hard to be relatable. Nope. Don't get it. At all.

"YOU'LL NEVER FORGET MY NAME!"
Heck yeah, messing around with Audacity's EQ feature trying to bring out the dynamics in IHITIK. Love this song so much.
