Absolutely agree with the fact that oasis' worst is a lot of other bands bet I think there is only a few bands around today were some of there albums beat oasis' worst. I think as much as I love BHN I kinda burnt a lot of bridges for them because they could never really throw the kitchen sink at an album again really and have the powerful oasis sound because of the hammering they got for it being bloated and it was DBTT that they figured out how post BHN oasis needed to sound and SOTSOG was a complete experimental which I'm glad they did but I'm glad they didn't do it again in a way. Yeah I definitely agree with that. Be Here Now is the perfectly imperfect end to Noel's 3 albums in the same vein plan, and Oasis MK I and despite the more experimental DOYS, the last three albums aren't a million miles away from one another stylistically. SOTSOG is hard to put with any of the other records. I know most people divide the records into 90s and 00s, but for me Giants doesn't fit in either category. It's not an Oasis MK I record because Bonehead and Guigsy don't play on it, but it's not an Oasis MK II record because Andy and Gem don't play on it. And it doesn't sound like either. Would have been interesting to see the album released under a different name, and HC functioning as a sort of comeback. I think we can all agree it's not the comeback album we'd like, but those singles, man Stop Crying Your Heart Out would be some statement after a few years out of the limelight. For the record, I'm glad SOTSOG is an Oasis record, just a thought I had I'm certainly glad as well I was actually about to say SOTSOG was the perfect album to bridge the gap, ye the singles off HC were very successful but fans would have been disappointed when the bought the album. No DBTT is pretty much just a much better version of DBTT

Hmm SOTSOG- Some genius moments but still flawed HC- Mostly dreadful with one or two highs DBTT- Modern classic imo, great great album DOYS- Starts off promising then ends with some of the worst Oasis songs in existence NGHFB- Refreshing, great songs, slightly safe but still genius. Has EOTR on it, which is better than all post BHN CY- Creative, full of great songs and a massive step in the right direction for Noel Solo Gonna have to go with NGHFB couldn't agree more

EOTR is a bit drab compared to GLIO and Falling Down.

Let's set the record straight. Not Noel bashing , but , Noel has not written anything " genius " since BHN. And anything" post oasis ". Sounds like music you hear getting your teeth cleaned , or stuck in a elevator. And that's a fact

Gas Panic, TSOL and The Turning also better tunes than EOTR.

Everyone's entitled to their opinions, I just love EOTR above all post 97 because I enjoy listening to it more, and I listen to it more often than any of the rest. Still think DBTT is the best flowing record post 97, and a better overall album (until CY) but EOTR still comes out no1 for me, VERY closely followed by TIOBI
BUT again, just my ears

HFB'S but barely.
As others have spoken toward, HFB'S has been many of the highs of Oasis without the lows. Noel's songwriting has definitely been more consistent, though I think his lyrics have been hit or miss. Most of the lyrics on CY are utter crap. Riverman and the Right Stuff are fine pieces of music, but the lyrics are the stringing together of mindless tropes and cliches. Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting Dylan from Noel, but even by Noel's standards the lyrics to Lock All the Doors are literally half assed. On Chasing Yesterday it gets to the point where it's difficult to ascribe the patented, "What do you expect, it's Noel?" line, because in the end, with the exception of HC, I think overall Noel was extremely lyrically strong on the latter day Oasis albums. However, with HFB'S lyrically for every BOTMI there's aLock all the Doors lurking around the corner.

Definitely. I'm not saying all of his lyrics have dropped off, but there are maybe three songs on Chasing Yesterday I would think are good lyrically. The rest you could toss out as meaningless.

I think WTSRTS and DOTL both have really good lyrics.... As do YKWCGB, BOTMI, and to a lesser extent, TGWXRE. The latter has one poor line with "The truth is on your stereo...", but other than that, it has some solid lyrics, and the ones in the chorus are especially beautiful: "So she took me by the handWe followed clues left in the sandAs she swallowed space and timeWe gathered pearls and swineShe shot me to the sunLike a bullet from a gunAnd when the deed was doneIn the morning she was gone." I think that song combines Noel's lyrical styles of giving off a good imagery, and having some meaning, really well. Plus, that last line puts on a twist on everything. Now that I think of it, the intro repeating itself after that line actually makes a whole lot of sense since it, and the intro, are both very dramatic. It sets the tone really well.

He's capable of brilliant lyrics but I think he thinks doing a whole album of them is pretentious, in the same way that we haven't gotten a truly experimental album from him yet.

Mmh not sure,I think he genuinely struggle with them...He's written some brilliant stuff over the years in terms of lyrics,I'd go as far as saying that he's even underrated by the general public as a lyricist, but lyrics don't come to him as naturally as melodies do,so sometimes he just kind of gives up and goes with cliché rhymes and all that stuff I think his character also plays a part in his approach to lyrics in the sense that he doesn't like opening up and writing about personal things

Clearly he'll always be a melodist at heart and that's great, but I also believe he holds onto beliefs probably instilled in him when young in working class Manchester - namely that, with the exception of Morrissey and maybe Dylan, people who strive for clever or meaningful lyrics are pretentious and trying too hard. I think this was reinforced by his perceived failure in SOTSOG. He's grown out of it a bit (The Dying of the Light / While the Song Remains the Same) but I think perhaps subconsciously he limits his great lyrics to a few songs per album so he can say "There's some fookin' good lyrics on the album" but also keeps his image as an "honest, working class rock star". I hope Chasing Yesterday marks a turning point that in the future we can say was when he started leaving these ideas behind.
