I get it its fecking retro but I dont know, always gets me going especially the BE version, sounds massive.
does make me think that had DGSS had a better production it couldve been a lot better.
that instrumental at 2:52 is on point.

I actually really like btl, it just really needed to not be the first track we heard. FLW should have been the first song.
btl is a great album track though, and actually one of the more enjoyable beady eye songs in my opinion.
Very fun, great energy. 8/10

Is there hate for it? More hate on the timing of the release. The FIRST thing anyone should have heard from Beady Eye was "Four Letter Word". That song kicks you in the teeth and shows that the boys are BACK.
I know what Beady Eye were trying to do with "Bring The Light", present a different side to the former Oasis guys by being different but that's a little too different that early in the new branding process. Gotta ease folks in.

I like the song but I think it goes on about 30 seconds too long at the end. It should end abruptly with energy but it goes on and on.

Haven't really listened to it since about 2012 so I'm not even going to judge it.

Love the tune, especially live. Top 5 BE for me.

It has the same problem as Meaning of Soul: it's fast and full of energy, but without dynamics it gets very boring. I prefer songs with highs, lows, build ups and such. Bring the Light just starts with full speed and stays the same for waaay too long. The lyrics don't help either.

I always thought the press was positive about it?

I always thought the press was positive about it? StereoboardGigwiseNot universally upon release, Stereoboard criticised it as good enough for Oasis only if we are talking post SOTSOG and were generally quite negative, whilst Gigwise made references to whether BE could replace the "gaping hole" of Noel's songwriting talent. That said both along with other publications were quite complimentary of the track later on when reviewing it as part of DGSS as opposed to a stand alone single.

I remember it being well received in the press too. Think it was The sun's song of the week.
Its so easy in heinsite to say we should have got four letter word first. I 100% wish that had happened, but at the same time, somebody said right lets give everyone something different. Whether that was the wrong decision, that's down to opinion, but fairplay to whoever said let's go for it.
For as much stick as people give them for later playing Oasis songs, BTL is as much "we are not oasis" as you can get

Good production, but the tune itself didn't deserve to be the main single by a new band.

Bring The Light and Flick Of The Finger, both the first heard from each album, both the best songs on each album (and subsequently the only Beady Eye songs I listen to!)

"The roller" or "four letter word" should be the first Beady Eye material and official single.

bring the light proved that this group of musicians could not convincingly play rock and roll. stiff, no excitement. not to mention vapour for lyrics and not much of a melody. and that live performance at the top of the page is awful, mainly due to the band's absolute inability to swing but also due to some dire singing all around.

It's quite nice musically but the song is let by the same things most of Liam's songs are, crap lyrics and no real chorus. Gem and Andy can always pull out some nice instrumentation but it doesn't really make it a decent song.

I wouldn't describe it as retro as much as I would call it cliche.

In retrospect its one of the stronger Beady Eye songs. probably cracks their top five, but honestly that doesnt really mean that much considering my opinion of the band. Its pastiche all around with its Jerry Lee Lewis hammering (not swinging) rhythm. Liam injects some energy into it and I like the background singers/hallway production, but it kinda drags on a little bit. Coulda trimmed maybe 20-30 second off it with those baby come on's. I like how dynamic it is in places, but its like come on get on with the next one, i got the point.

Don't really know why you would post that first video as an example. Outro is nice but Liam is appalling.
My favourite two versions.
Can't find the video so its just the audio i'm afraid.

Don't really know why you would post that first video as an example. Outro is nice but Liam is appalling. because to me the BE version is superior, I know Liam sounds like shit there but there isnt many recordings of them on the BE tour, that lowlands gig is probably his best vocal on that song but overall the song is more repetitive and less epic on the first tour.

I haven't listened to this song in YEARS... just had a listen and now I know why it's been so long. It's really uninspired and down right shocking coming from an ex-Oasis outfit. Sounds like a b-side and nothing more.
