Both bands have been around for 35 years. Both play rock and roll. U2 sold out with The Joshua Tree. Boring 80's crap. Almost as bad as Phil Collins. Then Bono decided he was going to save the world. At least Sting stopped with the Rain Forest. The horror of music from the 80`s still makes me nauseated. Bad Religion have a song for Bono called I Want To Conquer the World. The lyrics go ``I want to conquer the world. Give all the idiots a brand new religion.`` Bono is egomaniacal and just plain full of shit. BR entertain and teach at the time. Dr. Greg Graffin singer in Bad Religion, has a Ph.D in Zoology from Cornell and teaches part time at UCLA. He has also completed his second book, Anarchy Evolution. Greg looks more like a professor than a rock star. Bono just looks foolish in his shades and bad dye job. Mr. Brett, songwriter in BR, started Epitaph when he was just 18 years old! Listen to Suffer then try to listen The Joshua Tree. I was going to give Noel the cd of No Control but I didn't think he could appreciate it. Bad Religion are playing Lollapalooza in March as is Noel but I don`t think he will be joining them for a rendition of 21st Century Digital Boy unfortunately.

Joey liked any band that gave the Ramone's the time of day, unfortunately. I was just trying to point out there are bands that are many times better than U2 esp. Bad Religion. I was going to make a separate post about the dog but just thought it was quicker to throw it in! No BR is so much more than Better Off Dead. I just love their lyrics and sound. I wish Bad Religion had a bigger audience because they are so AMAZING! A band that has been around for 36 years who stayed true to who they are is very rare. Bad Religion are cool but how are they comparable to U2? like two different pair of shoes. More like a pair of shoes and a pair of trousers. They can't be compared at all. U2 sold out with The Joshua Tree. Boring 80's crap. Almost as bad as Phil Collins.Seriously?

That's all good but the real question is of course: What kind of dog does Noel own?

PS. Phil Collins is awesome. Especially his work with Genesis. Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Ian Curtis died listening to Idiot by Lou ReedIggy Pop, but I do love and respect Lou's masterpieces, especially with Velvet Underground. Sorry for off-topic post, but I had to post it. mimmihopps check your rock 'n' roll history ;-) How anyone could commit suicide to this I don't know - it just makes me want to dance in freaky slow ways...

mossy, you're right. Indeed I need to take a beginner's course for the RocknRoll History. I admit my stupidness mixing up Lou and Iggy, but that post of mine was pointing out how stupid is to hate some band just because your favourite artist died by listening to certain song of the band. To me it doesn't make any sense.

I'm fine with U2 seen 'em live and they were great, but the video on page 1 of this thread sounds like shit. Fuckin' terrible. Both can do better and I expected them to at least carry a tune. Where was the melody in All You Need Is Love?

Where was the melody in All You Need Is Love? Noel was singing a harmony line over the chorus of Still Haven't Found, wasn't out of tune but sounded a bit weird with him being as high in the mix as Bono's lead. All You Need Is Love sounded weird because the chords weren't right for that melody. I assume it was a spur of the moment thing but it jarred.

Noel sounded pretty great, better than Bono who sounded a bit hoarse.

All You Need Is Love was a mess to be honest, ISHFWILF was decent. At the end of the day who gives a fuck, it's my two favourite bands joining (sort of) in a giant fuck off supergroup for an improtu song.

Nice to see Noel is still a fan even if it's not for a band I care for.
