All great, not that keen on 'Tis a Pity though. The closing track works well.

This is a masterpiece. The songs are all of a bigger caliber than on the last one.

This afternoon a DJ played about a minute of each track. It made me enthusiastic, sounds good! He's still got it.

Innovative, creative, different. Just a brilliant artist and album. Yeah, all that's a given with Bowie. A true one-off freak of nature. There'll never be another like him. But what we all want to know here is, is the record as good as A Head Full Of Dreams?... Batfink, your thoughts...

From only my first listen, I'd've said swap those letters around and turn the W on its head, because the tune was undoubtedly the biggest WTF moment (and there were many) I had when I first listened to the record this morning. However, now I absolutely love it. Can't get enough of that hook. Wonderful Bowie vocals (seriously, how good does he sound for 68?!) and the production's absolutely outstanding. Lennon2217, I can see you being a Girl Loves Me man. And I have a sneaking suspicion the new version of Sue might prompt a "fuck yeah" from you...

Yeah, I'm not really getting 'Tis A Pity yet either, never liked the demo that came out a few years back tbh, although this version is definitely better than that. My only other scruple with the record is that it's just not long enough!

matt, can we expect a full review (à la Chasing Yesterday) written up within the coming week?

matt, can we expect a full review (à la Chasing Yesterday) written up within the coming week? Well I'm listening to this the third time this evening - magnificent!!! Can't elaborate as there's so much going on it would be impossible to do so in a short time! Best since Let's Dance (won't hear a bad word said about this album - not reinventing the wheel but classic pop, and who doesn't like that!). I even love Tis A Pity - a great rhythm to that one. It's amazing the amount of genres you pick up after a couple of listens - just listening to Sue and it seems like the kind of song ideal for an electronic remix. Chemical Bros style drums and seems ideal for looping. It's an awesome album - I can't remember listening to such a well established artist that has produced this kind of brilliance after so long. I'd have to say it's going to be up there alongside The Rising by Bruce Springsteen as the most impressive brilliant thing I've heard from an established legend. P.S. No doubt for me it is far superior to Chasing Yesterday. For sheer ambition it's better but it goes way beyond just ambition.

I agree with matt. Can't get enough of listening to it since yesterday. Shame that the playing time is quite short!

carryusall, where d'you stand on the reworked tracks? I've only had a chance to listen to the record once, but on first listen I prefer the new version of Sue. I did prefer the first version of Tis a Pity She Was a Whore, the demo version, but Bowie's new vocals are great. All in all, I really enjoyed it on first listen, and can't wait until I have time to play it again. What did you think?

I definitely like this version of 'Tis a Pity more than I did the last one, and I dig the new Sue, with it's faster pace and shorter run time, but I do miss some of the jazzy sax of the original, especially near the end of the song where you realise Sue has cheated on whoever the song is supposed to be from the point of view of; the music helps create a sinister mood to match the lyrics, better than this new version does, I think.

Interesting to hear you say that. Personally I feel the new version of Sue better illustrates the dark lyrics through the music, I definitely found it easier to understand. I do miss some of the sax though, I'll definitely be returning to the old versions more than I usually do in these cases, but I'm very happy with the album versions
