TRACKLISTING: Blackstar ’Tis A Pity She Was A Whore Lazarus Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime) Girl Loves Me Dollar Days I Can’t Give Everything Away It seems like the original reports were right - only seven tracks, band comprised of unknown jazz musicians, nearly 10 minute long title track... Bit disappointed Sue and 'Tis A Pity are on there, when they've already been out a year Where'd you see this? Can't find it anywhere www.mojo4music.com/22320/the-secrets-of-david-bowie-★-album/

Mojo must have jumped the gun, and released it before it's supposed to be released. No need to apologise, cheers for the link. I really like the two sides of the single Bowie put out earlier this year, but I will be disappointed if they are on the record, I've had then for ages. iTunes just says track 2, track 3 etc after Blackstar. Reckon you're probably right about Mojo breaking an embargo though

Very weird indeed, but isn't that what David Bowie's all about? The drumming is absolutely infectious!

As my dad pointed out, it's nice to see Noel and Liam's estranged sister make an appearance as well

Bowie's new tune is unbelievable and I can't understand why this thread isn't 50 pages already. Easily one of the best songs released this year and it's not like we've been lacking great music.
Take note, Amorphous Androgynous: that's how you arrange and produce a 10-minute track with few musical themes while keeping it constantly interesting and subtle and without falling into unwelcome repetitions and cliches. This song feels almost too short.

I'm looking forward to see what Noel has to say about the track. On the one hand, it's undeniably great, but on the other hand it might be a bit too weird for him.

I was wondering that just last night. I think he likes plenty of weird music - he seems from those Spotify playlists and other things he's done, to have quite eclectic tastes - I just think where Noel falls down is where it comes to being weird himself. He's too insecure to allow himself to do something as barmy as this. Nah, I think he'll like it; he's more of a Bowie fanboy than anyone these days. I would love to see/hear his reaction to watching the video for the first time though. A little like "is that a man with sausages for legs!?", I can imagine him going "is that a girl with a cats tail!?" and "fuckin'ell, R Kid didn't tell me he'd got a role"

PS: The last sentence

i'll have two of whatever he's taking. god bless. I'm not sure that's advisable - the lads at 1:47 snuck into Bowie's dressing room before the shoot started and tried just a half a pill each of what Bowie's taking, and well, you can see what happened... Shaking like shitting dogs all day they were... Apparently the lad on the left still has trouble hitting the bowl when he goes for a pee. Lesson learnt the hard way: never try to match Bowie for sheer weirdness.

Only after about 20 listens, do I now think I can rate the tune by a score of 10, such is the weirdness of the piece, it's quite hard to draw any conclusions from it - and I'm gonna go for a very respectable 9/10. Unsettling, atmospheric, completely ambiguous, I think it might just be another twilight masterpiece from Sir David of the House Bowie! My only slight complain with it would be the transition between the two sections of the song, around the 4 minute mark. The first 3 minutes plod along in its own individual way, allowing you to get lost in the music, and then all of a sudden, the drums stop and you're wrenched out of it. I don't know if that was the intention, but it doesn't quite sit right with me. Fortunately though, the middle bit is the best part of the song, with Bowie's pop sensibilities getting a chance to show themselves, funky sax and all. matt, Lennon2217, kalas, what do you reckon?

Going to listen to this today. I liked The Next Day but not quite as much as everyone else seems to...I think 10 of the 14 tracks were pretty good so I'd definitely say commendable and above average but not excellent or mindblowing. Though for someone whose been putting out records as long as Bowie has, its pretty a strong effort, to be honest.

It's not like anything I've ever heard - the word 'original' is so overused in music today (e.g. to describe some hipster crap which uses a well worn trip hop beat over a non-existent melody) but this is genuinely weird. But it then gets typically melodic like Bowie, so chilling, disconcerting but strangely beautiful. I'd say 9/10 is pretty accurate.

I agree with all the weirdness claims, and Bowie can do weird like no one else. It's 100% Bowie yet still innovative for him. I do like it but it does creep the hell out of me at times, at least while watching the video. I look forward to hearing the full album but I'll be honest, its not a song I'd see myself returning to often.
