If Coldplay do another album, there needs to be some ground rules to stop this sort of thing happening.
- No fancy studios - No cliched lyrics - No collaborations or guest producers
Etc...
Basically, just get the four of them in a small room together and give them a piano, mic, bass, guitar and drum set. Leave it there. Coldplay have been putting style over substance for 6 years now and the music is suffering badly. They need to retake the Parachutes approach, when the production just made sure every instrument was given the right amount of space, and then let the songs do the talking:
Hopefully this would force them to come up with songs of a bit more depth and maturity, although I fear that it's too late. Maybe they've just lost it completely and become too comfortable with disguising mediocrity with clever production techniques, and then passing it off as creativity. I know I shouldn't panic, but maybe everything's been lost.

Can't wait for a full album of stuff like X Marks the Spot on the inevitable Chris Martin solo album.
Edit: Just seen that Lennon2217 posted the same thing at the top of the page

I downloaded it but the tracklisting doesn't actually match the songs. I noticed that when I clicked on Amazing Day, it wasn't actually Amazing Day. I recognized most of the songs from the snippets though, so it's all good.
If only I could say the same about the album. I like the title track, I sorta like Everglow, think that's a grower, I like Adventure Of A Lifetime, Amazing Day, Up&Up (nice solo. It's such a Noel solo) and what I think is Miracles. The rest is either bland, forgettable, shit or all of those. A very mediocre album which sees Coldplay use too much of the same tricks (whoohoos, specifically) and which sees them use shit production in order to attempt to make the songs sound less bland and more interesting, in which they fail. It's a bit Heathen Chemistry. A few good songs, a few good songs that were let down by the production, some forgettable stuff and some shit. Oh well, at least it sounds optimistic, or something. It's not awful, but I doubt I'll ever listen to it in full from front to back again.
Oh and did anyone else get the urge in Kaleidoscope, after the piano intro with the weird effects, to say "number 9, number 9, number 9.."?

I remember when I thought that at least Coldplay could never do worse than Mylo Xyloto. LOL.

That's because "X Marks The Spot" is a hidden, unannounced track between "Army of One" and "Amazing Day". Whoever ripped your leak probably didn't realize this ant split them incorrectly. An easy fix via GarageBand if you ever bother to own those tracks still.

I have not downloaded the album because I have it on preorder but if the single is anything to go by I'm not looking forward to this at all. I'm not a fan of the first album, I can see why it's so loved but it's just not my kind of music, but the next three are such good strong records that I find the current state of Coldplay a little depressing. I don't have any issue with them attempting to go more pop or appeal to the mass market but good god at don't sacrifice everything that made you good to get there. Such a shame.

^ You might be disappointed. The single is one of the best things on the album, in my opinion of course.

Oh dear haha! I'll give it a spin when it comes out in a few weeks but to be honest this is the least excited I've been about any Coldplay album since I got into them. Thanks for the heads up

Listening to A Rush of Blood to the Head in my efforts to forget about AHFOD, and god Daylight is a TUNE. Absolutely hypnotic.

Might continue with AROBTTH now then. It's something of a surreal experience to think the same band that once had Politik, In My Place, GPASUYF, The Scientist and Clocks as the first five songs on an album now is releasing things like AHFOD. I've been going on about Coldplay a lot recently with AHFOD coming out, but how far they've fallen is a genuinely sad thing for me. Like most with Oasis on here, it's not just about the songs - Coldplay mean a lot to me because if I hadn't been absolutely blown away by The Scientist and it's music video a few years ago I might never have become a music fan. I still have massive nostalgia for that tune, and when the guitars come in at the end it still hits me. After playing that song a million times over, I found my dad's collection of the first three albums and just fell in love. At 12 years old, with my favourite song being something by the Scissor Sisters, I couldn't decide whether it was normal to adore so many songs by one band - Yellow, Don't Panic, Trouble, The Scientist, Clocks, Square One etc... They all seemed like genius then and I still love them now. To see a band I have such emotional ties to, who blew open my world with such melodic rock music become just another generic pop band on chart compilations is really, really sad. What twists the knife is how happy they seem about it; Chris' favourite song on this album is "X Marks the Spot". He says this is the album he always wanted to write. He says "A Head Full of Dreams" is his all time favourite Coldplay song. When I think about that, I lose all hope of hearing anything from Coldplay I genuinely love again.

Looking at the comments here, I really don't want to listen to this album yet, people here are really disappointed with it, I will listen to it later.
I really would like to see Coldplay doing a heavy rock album, heavy not in the sense of some heavy metal band, but heavy as something like New Year's Day or The Fly by U2, with the guitar more upfront and a bit more agressive than what they are.

That would be great. A heavier, grittier more U2 like Coldplay album. It's about as far away from. where Chris seems to want to be at the moment though.....

Lennon/anyone, I know little about Coldplay other than I loathe them. Has their fall been as drastic as U2's? U2's last 2 albums are so bad they beggar belief. Not since T-Rex after 1972 has a big artist gone so thoroughly wrong. How can the band that made The Joshua Tree con themselves into believing these 2 records are anything but dog poop? Ick ick ick!

I'd also challenge anyone to go and see them live and not to come away gob smacked.

Forgot to mention the lyrics to that Beyoncé song are absolutely garbage. What's being sung, something about being drunk and getting so high? Or am I getting deaf?
