I think this is one of the greatest tunes noel has ever written. I cannot believe he didn't stick it on NGHFB. I think this would be a massive opener (instead of eotr) or on nr 7 (instead of sbajf). Strange that this epic song wasn't even a b-side but only a bonus track forvthe japanese edition.
Also this track seems a little bit underrated here or am i wrong? What are your thoughts, do you think noel had better stick it on the album or maybe released as a 1 off single? Has he ever spoken about this track in interviews?

Should've been on the album instead of Record Machine or Stop The Clocks. Not EOTR, which is one of the best songs on the fucking album.

Incredible song, but EOTR is also incredible so I wouldn't kick it off the album for it, although I do agree with Simple Game being the album opener, would be excellent. Then I'd put EOTR as the closing track, always thought it would make an excellent closer. Although the last 30-odd seconds of STC are also brilliant.
I like record machine tho, love the build up production, especially at the part which kicks in with "can't give me a reason, don't need one to shine"

First minute or so (ie before Stacey's shite drumming comes in) is great. The other six minutes do nothing for me. Average tune.

Great b-side, which probably should have made the album. Had Oasis not split up and Noel stuck to his concept for LP#8, I wouldn't be surprised if it would have made the final tracklist. Ever since Noel has gone solo the quality of his b-sides have rocketed... Good for us, but for Noel's LPs?
I've always thought that Noel has the consistency to pull off a double LP (despite his dismissal of them)... something which would be a great use for his b-sides and large collection of unreleased tracks. Cut some tracks down a little and length shouldn't really be too much of an issue.
EOTR is clearly this best opener he had at his disposal however... I certainly wouldn't remove that one.

Jeremy Stacey play drums on it. Paul Stacey, his brother and engineer, play the guitar solo on Stop the Clocks and the bass on A Simple Game of Genius. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noel_Gallagher%27s_High_Flying_Birds_(album)#Personnel

One of his best work since going solo and absolutely should've been the album closer on HFB. Not sure what Noel was thinking.

One of the best solo tunes thus far. Easily in the top ten I'd say. Should have closed the first album. Like the slick textures on it, it is kinda like a bridge between HFB and CY.
The melody in the verse is really dope and you gotta love that Dear Prudence bass riff.

The Champagne Supernova of his solo career and he just tosses the thing into the toilet practically. Perhaps he was embarrassed to be so openly ripping off ELO (10538 Overture) instead of The Beatles but ELO was ripping off The Beatles so I don't see a problem.

I like it but my mind seem to wander somewhere else in the middle. Too long and repetitive.

HFB1 and DGSS still followed that What If trend that haunted every post-WTSMG release.

It's a great song, I'd love to have heard a full Oasis Liam version of it. How Stop The Clocks finished the first album instead of this is beyond me.

it's better than everything that's on both of his solo efforts (except for while the song remains...). one would think he would have learnt something of the mistakes he made with throwing away b-sides in his early years, but apparently, it only got worse.
he also gave away alone on the rope as a fucking amazon bonus track!!!! that means that so far, two of the three best songs he published under his high flying birds moniker didn't make it on any of his albums. noel, what are you doing, NOEL???

"oh Cecilia / close your eyes and I will be with ya / I'm in the song that's rising over ya" may just be Noel's worst lyrics ever.

Perhaps he was embarrassed to be so openly ripping off ELO (10538 Overture) instead of The Beatles. I don't hear the similarities between this and 10538 Overture? Now Paul Weller's "Changing Man" is an Overture rip off, it's pretty much identical to it.

This and Alone On The Rope are by far my favourite songs from the HFB I era. Both aren't on the album. A Shame.
