I'm trying to compile an album of all songs that Noel has been inspired by, copied or ripped off. Even songs that Noel says he didn't copy but everyone thinks he did, I'm including e.g. Whatever
- Shakermaker - I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing (New Seekers) - Cigs and Alc - Get It On (T-rex) - Live Forever - Some George Harrison song...can't remember which one - Half The World Away - This Guy's In Love With You (Burt Bacharach) - Whatever - How Sweet To Be An Idiot (Neil Innes) - Step Out - Uptight (Stevie Wonder) - Hello - Hello Hello (I'm Back Again) (Gary Glitter) - Don't Look Back In Anger - Imagine (John Lennon) - Don't Look Back In Anger - Sunflower (Paul Weller) - She's Electric - With A Little Help From My Friend (The Beatles) - Morning Glory - Daytripper - Fade In-Out - Govinda (Kula Shaker) - Fuckin In the Bushes - Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin) - The Hindu Times - Same Size Feet (Stereophonics) - Muck Fingers - I'm Waiting for the Man (The Velvet Underground) - The Importance of Being Idle - Sunny Afternoon (The Kinks) - The Turning - Devil Woman (Cliff Richard) - Falling Down - Tomorrow Never Knows (The Beatles) - Everybody's On The Run - Ecstasy of Gold (Ennio Morricone) - What A Life - Bus Stop (The Hollies) - Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks - Sunny Afternoon (The Kinks) - Riverman - Pinball (Brian Protheroe)
These are the songs I've managed to retrieve from memory. Some are far fetched, but they are all opinions I've read or heard about.
Does anyone know the George Harrison song Live Forever was inspired by? And are there anymore to add to this list?

And personally I always thought Noël half-inched the title of Everybody's on the Run from Born to Run:
'Everybody's out in the run tonight/ And there's no place left to hide'
The Girl with the x-Ray Eyes is a culprit - Starman (Bowie) Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin) even The Masterplan
The Mexican - Whatever happened to my rock and roll - black rebel motorcycle club She must be one of us - Highway 61 revisited Bob Dylan She is love - sweet pea - Paul Weller
And maybe. Maybe
The Death of You and Me - The Importance of being Idle
Noel is one of those guys I can see being 'my biggest inspiration is myself' except it actually might be

The Girl With X-Ray Eyes also has a bit of Hotel California in it.

Stop The Clocks - Looking Glass (The La's)
I see Stop The Clocks as a poor imitation of Looking Glass. The lyric "turn the world around" is identical in both songs, yet nobody really mentions it.
I personally think the 'Importance Of Being Idle - Clean Prophet' link is actually a bit of stretch. A similar strumming pattern but different chords and structure does not constitute plagiarism.

The Importance Of Being Idle sounds like a song by The Kinks, but I can't find out which one, and it's definitely not Sunny Afternoon.

Yeah, Clean Prophet and TIOBI are only similae in the intro, a bit.

Are you guys thinking about a playlist on Spotify? Would be great. That's a fantastic idea! We should gather all the songs that inspired Noel and make an epic playlist to pay homage to our hero.

Some of these might not be that obvious:
Who Put The Weight... - While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Beatles) Hello - Far Far Away (Slade) (try singing the chorus over the "It's never gonna be the same/cos the years..." bit). Fuckin' in the Bushes - Little Miss Lover (Hendrix) - the drum pattern. I think even the demo samples the original track. Roll It Over - Come Together - the solo Carry Us All - Like a Rolling Stone - the way the bridge ends, I always feel like singing "How does it feeel" afterwards Shout It Out Loud - Cortez the Killer + Comfortably Numb (the solo section) Part of the Queue - Golden Brown Cloudburst - Standing Here
------------------------
DLBIA includes the All the Young Dudes melody. That's a direct quote.
------------------------
I've always wondered about this one, but it must be a coincidence:
Let There Be Love - Retrovertigo (Mr. Bungle). I really can't see Noel listening to anything by these guys, but he's surprised me before.

Oh, and speaking about Let There Be Love, it contains the same chord progression as Hung Up by a certain Mr. Weller who also taught Noel the second chord. The progression appears when the title is sung

Judging from this thread, DLBIA must be THE most derivative song in history
