BUMP! So, has anyone changed their mind as to whether there will be a new album - I'm still convinced there will be. Remember, no news isn't necessarily bad news with them... I've since changed my mind. I think we'll hear a new single before the gigs in June and an album will be released before the end of the year.

I thought there would be new music as soon as those lemon posters started cropping up around Manchester. Why go to such lengths to promote a few gigs? It's not like they'd need to go to great lengths to stoke up enough interest, they're The Stone Roses, of course they're gonna sell out Manchester! There seems to be a growing trend of bigger acts dropping new music completely out of the blue, without bothering to promote it and going through all the rigmarole Noel goes through each time, ever since Bowie did it with The Next Day. I expect the Roses to do the same. Hopefully they'll fare much better than Coldplay did when they tried it last month (and obviously, as a sort of fan of theirs, I'm hoping the quality of the music they release will be of a higher standard than Coldplay's new stuff)

We've also got to remember that it takes the Roses ages to make an album. The first album was a good few years in the making, while we know everything about the lengthy process it took to make Second Coming.
It takes approximately five years for them to make one - so considering they reunited in 2011, then 2016 makes sense for new music.

I'm sure Shane Meadows mentioned that they already had a bunch of new songs when he was making Made Of Stone. Maybe they've been writing ever since they reformed and perhaps even earlier than that.

im sure ian brown would of had a stack of songs for what would of been his 7th solo album had the roses not reformed so theres a least half a album they could use,,get john to rewrite some of the music so you get the written by squire/brown,,but i cant see it thats why i wasnt arsed when the reformed in 2011 and even less bothered when they announced the shows for this year,,im hoping after these gigs they all fall out ans split for good so ian brown can become a solo artist again which is what i always prefered to the stone roses,,dont get me wrong i love the music of the stone roses but was always more a fan of IB as a solo artist

I think Ian Brown's solo stuff is alright. Just alright. I have the best of compilation and I listened to some other albums on YouTube and I have no desire to buy them.

Add to the fact that Ian Brown was fairly consistent in releasing solo albums every couple to few years until 2011. I refuse to believe he's done no work since 2011, and that they must surely be working together over these past years.

F.E.A.R is one of the best songs by Ian Brown, same as Marathon Man and Sister Rose has got a vibe of Fools Gold, but you can't compare his solo stuff to The Rose's first album.

I reckon they have to release something eventually, its starting to get a bit ridiculous!
Ian Brown must have material waiting, its been nearly 7 years since his last Solo album.
Speaking of which, "My Way" was a great album I thought!

the joke about this band. Is oasis gets criticized for flopping with bhn .....at least they came out with a follow up in a timely fashion. ( and I still think BHN is there best ) The roses do nothing And are considered " gods ". There first lp. Had a few good tunes they are the most over hyped band ever .....they actually make guns and roses work ethic look good Seriously overrated band. Overrated singer And there guitarists. Tragic. They were a band that hipsters fell in love with Noel amongst them ...... Nobody really cares anymore I'd rather see Robbie Williams than that joke of a band. Seriously what have they done They had good haircuts. And mani makes for good quotes

I hope they do, best band that has ever walked the face of the earth. But I wont hold my breath.
I love Brown's solo stuff, I really liked that he made his own sound and his solo stuff wasn't just generic Roses-type stuff, which would have been the easy and lazy option.

As much as I hope this is the case, I can't keep my hopes up with these guys. We've been let down before and these gigs in June may just be another cash grab. Just think though if they play new material for the first time at the gigs! Otherwise its been complete silence with them, which is always a good thing and bad thing. The world needs The Stone Roses.

Exactly. My intention is that they'll at least drop a couple (...maybe two new tunes) in their upcoming live sets. Beatles Anthology kind of style.
Game Changer!

I think at their peak they were the greatest band the world has ever seen (summer 1990). They had the look, the songs, the sound. They were just so fucking good. Ian's voice complemented John's guitar playing so perfectly. Mani and Reni are both amazingly giften musicians and I think at that time they had a tightness that no other band has ever had.

And at there best ..live they were ok. Not great. Much like oasis. Guns and roses live were great. Bruce live was great. Van Halen in the years Dave still had a voice were great Tje rises A band that is overhyped There not that good

I'm really hoping these June and July gigs aren't cash grabs and actually promoting new material. Really don't want to be let down again.

For those who missed their reunion gigs in 2012, this is the great opportunity to be witnessed one of the greatest bands in the British music history. I've seen them twice in 2 countries. I hope they'll release at least a new single before they kick off in Manchester in Summer.

I don't have one issue with them releasing new music at all (which I expect). Some saying it will damage their legacy but I don't think they've got anything to lose considering Second Coming was poorly received in the public sphere (even though many fans love the album).
Whatever the case is, I'm very fascinated as to how it will sound. There was the retro 60s inspired pop sound of the first album, then they had more dancey, electronic influenced tunes like One Love and Fools Gold on latter singles, and then the hard blues rock of Second Coming, so if anything, they aren't predictable when it comes to music.
I predict a fuller sounding take on Ian Brown's solo material - modern electro influences but with more guitars, and generally more of a 'band' sound. Even if it is shit, it will be fascinating to hear how or if they have changed in the 20 plus years since Second Coming.

I don't think the issue of living up to their previous work lies in them making an album as great as their first. I think we all agree that isn't goo to happen.
I think the pressure is for them to make a comeback single as great as Love Spreads. And I can't see them doing it. I never rate it as such, because it doesn't have the stone roses sound of their earlier work, but it might objectively be their best song.

Fuck the legacy, new music is essential. Can't carry on doing cash tours on the back of two albums for fucks sake.

Funny thing with the Roses is money makes them disappear. They got a massive advance from Geffen when they joined them after the first record and then disappeared and they did the same after earning a shit ton of money from these gigs.
