The Girl with x-ray eyes and The Mexican get skipped everytime. Just can't get into them unfortunately. these are the two i am struggling with as well. 'we gathered pearls and swine' may just be the most appalling lyrics to ever appear on a noel g.-penned song, and that's saying something. What would've been brilliant is if he would've sang "we gathered pearls that shine", instead of what he did. It may sound a little Plain Jane, but it uses "shine", which is typical for Noel, and plus it would've presented good imagery.

Lock All The Doors is very poor in my opinion, lacks any of the attack and verve of earlier Oasis recordings. X Ray Eyes is dire too. I like the fun of The Mexican, even if it isn't well liked here. Dying of the Light IS an Oasis song, but I'm a sucker for most melancholy ballads, and I'm sure most people are too.
Apart from that, the less Oasis it is, the better the album is. Love Right Stuff and Mighty I especially.
Until he really steps out his comfort zone and surprises people, others outside this forum won't really give a toss to be honest. You can see the tunes that have garnered the most discussion and arguably the best reception over the last few years - What A Life and Right Stuff probably, and they're very unlike Oasis. He's still got great melodic abilities, I just wish he'd mix up the sound a bit more. I still believe a great melody will sound great in any context, and he should try and stray away from the usual tired and tested recording methods.

Don't get me wrong, I used to love it the first weeks but I don't listen to it anymore. I didn't make this thread for a revenge or something

I think it's normal: you are excited about an album, you overplay it during the first weeks and then it suddenly feels like you don't want to listen to it anymore. It happens very often, at least to me. In a few weeks' time you'll hear a song from CY again and that will probably get you back to the album

But does the fact that you used to love it but don't listen to it anymore make it overrated?

I don't think it's overrated. No one says it's perfect or anything, people just say it's a good album with flaws, which it is.
HFB is a good album too. Safe and with shitty production in places, but solid. There's not a single song on it that's really weak.

Most critic reviews I've seen say its good. While its not my cup of tea entirely I would agree with that.

I'm always surprised at how people on here slate HFB quite a lot. I'd say that record is underrated on here, although it gets a lot of love in the real world. Man I love that record, it's one of my favourite records. I understand people's criticisms about the production, I agree in the most part, but I think the production really suits 'The Death of You and Me', that song sounds great. Although obviously that's just my own opinion, and is only as valid as anyone else's.
One aspect I have no qualms about with Chasing Yesterday is it's production. Noel did a great job, love the bass throughout the record, and the keyboards, which I never thought I'd say about an Oasis-related record

It's only overrated inasmuch as BE was overrated. ...which it's not, but much rather a good album with two songs that have brilliant instrumentation to its credit, but shitty lyrics that ruins all of that ( Don't Brother Me and Shine a Light).

I still think it is fantastic, both the oasis-like songs and the ones which are a bit different. The Oasis-related album I have enjoyed more since BHN, without a doubt.

I love the lyrics to Don't Brother Me though. I can't justify them as good to anyone, but personally I love them, They make me laugh with their bitchy cynical take on Noel's music. At least no-one can accuse Beady Eye of being commercial. BE can't be overrated on here, because most people take the piss out of it all the time. I love it, listen to it all the time. Swap the bonus tracks for some of the album tracks and you have yourself a very tasty record.

I played it to death for the first few weeks so I've not properly listened to it since. At the time, I said it was the best album since Morning Glory and I stand by that statement. All we can do now is see if the album stands the test of time.

I think the production of The Dying Of The Light is perfect and subtle, it suits the song. Big bombastic drums, Nickelback echoes, choirs and over the top orchestras aren't this song. I think the demo is better.

I think the demo is better. I really hated the demo. When I saw TDOTL would be on the album I was very disappointed. I remember playing the leak, reaching TDOTL and going "ugh alright here we go" and afterwards I had decided it was one of my favourites on the album. It's still my second favourite, right after Ballad Of The Mighty I. Go figure!
