The Strokes are only doing new music to explain their huge and pricey festival tickets now. the new stuff sound half arsed. The "real" music from them comes from their solo stuff, now it seems. Which has been declining as well. Sounds just like..............The Stone Roses Oh no you didnt, the strokes might not get along but their output from 2011 to now isnt as bad as One for all.

Spotify and if you heard Siruis Fm, Beats One or BBc R1 you could've heard them all. They used to be on vevo but I cant listen to them on there anymore. you can go to cultrecords.com and listen

I've listened to all of the songs now and I think this is a Let it Be moment. The songs are exorbitantly interesting and not bad at all. B ut OBLIVIUS and Drag Queen are "obliviously" Jule's The Voidz left overs - played by the Strokes.
... Which is not bad ... for me at least! you r right. new songs are 'good' songs but not classic strokes material. spot on about your comment for Julian Casablancas+The Voidz.Somehow i like ''Tyranny'' a lot, much more than the last 2-3 strokes albums!!! much better than Julian's solo work but when it comes to the strokes i want to hear that magic old feeling, the perfection of their first 2 albums, i want to hear the strokes.

Its alright. Could be worse. Nothing compared to the first two albums and parts of the third. "Room on fire" was my first music hype and changed everything to me. I probably wouldnt be on here without it. Great times

Is Julian Casablancas+The Voidz more like acquired taste? I tried to listen to some of their songs but they sounded quite weird to be honest.

The Voidz record is an ambitious craetive fountain of scrap ideas. It's noise rock and not for everybody. @driver7

I think the Lou Reed comparison is a bit crass. The Stone Roses..., that's probably wishfull thinking on your part glider

Which has been declining as well. Listening to "Is This It" still takes my breath away even 15 years later. That was magical. true, 2001 was the year of The Strokes. that record is pretty much perfect from 1 to 11. Room on Fire is alright too, but after that, what a shame... I mean, Albert first solo record is great too, but the rest of their discography, solo or with the band is so, so bad. Is this what happens when rich kids make music ? After a few years they cant be bothered ?

Wouldn't it just turn out to be a nostalgic clusterjam as well, if they would return to their retro trademark three chord sound? I take this over just an other All The Time...
Fvck the rest!

There are only 4 songs on the EP and 1 is a remix so I was all set to be disappointed, but the Moretti Remix of Oblivius is really good. Maybe it won't be anyone's favorite Strokes tune, but it's good and much better than the other version. They don't make great albums anymore, but they can be counted on for the odd great song.

When I first heard OBLIVIUS I was like "Woah, what is this?". Thought it sounded so much different to old Strokes. But now after couple of days I have to say I love it. Sounds really great.
Other songs aren't bad either.

The EP is a lot better than I imagined it would be. Drag Queen and the Oblivious (Remix) being the highlights. Drag Queen feels like the type of music they should have made after "Room On Fire".

One thing that bothers me is, like with the Voidz, that I can't figure out what JC is singing.
I just can't figure out the chorus of OBLIVUS. Is it? : A) Watch out! You're standing out! B) What side you standing on? C) What are you standing on? D) Something else?
Hunting meat? Untame me?

I knnow that it is out in the open that the rest of the band 'dont get on' - but where has it come from? Have they specifically come out and said it or is it just one of these industry rumours? I remember them saying that when they recorded Angles they were recording under the working title 'Frenemies'. But if they DO dislike each other, it all seems very tame unlike a certain band that we all know and love.
Does anyone have any concrete evidence of their loathing?

Actually they get on very well nowadays, they didn't get on very well only in that brief period between 2010/2011 during the recording of Angles, where the band recorded it in one place while Julian recorded his vocals in another place and then send his vocals by email, the band of course didn't like that weird situation.

All one has to do is read this excellent article about their third album to realize dark times were ahead for the band. An excellent Pitchfork review from their latest EP. pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/21986-future-present-past-ep/"Although the Strokes are of the same era as once-flashpoint NYC guitar bands like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, the National, and the Walkmen, they’ve become something their peers haven’t: classic rock.""....and they didn’t miss a note, even as I don’t think a single member came within ten feet of another during the entire set."
