ProTools... all of their albums were recorded with PT, the thing that changed was the version of it. Also the strokes are now a democrazy instead of being just JC writing all the songs.

I don't understand why people bitch about Protools its the industry standard. Kinda like bitching over a SM57.
Wish I could get excited for this but there last album did absolutely nothing for me. Angles had moments, but it still wasn't even what I'd call a good record. You could pick the best ten songs off of their past three albums and it still wouldn't be as magical as the tracks on the first two albums, and I doubt it'd be as good.
Maybe they will surprise me, but there is no joy left in this band.

I liked the first half of Comedown Machine but after the titletrack I dont feel any joy(bar the last track) it seems like they went to the MJ disco but I dont feel it, maybe if it were by Phoenix it would have fared better.

Comedown Machine is more consistent but Angles has more memorable songs. Phoenix and the Stroke are contemporaries of each other but their careers have gone in complete opposite trajectories. The Strokes burned bright and fast, haven't really done anything great in over a decade, whereas Phoenix has slowly worked their way up and are making some of the best music of their career. The Strokes wished they had wrote a song like S.O.S. In Bel Air.

SOS in Belgium Air is a good song but it sounds so familiar to a Strokes song I just can't place which one. 1901 is a good song and got a lot of exposure. Back when I had Sirius radio they played it constantly. Listzomania is another good song but to me it just sounds like Last Night redone.

talk about a band that the usa has lost interest in ..... they went from THE NEXT BIG THING to who cares real quick .... Yeah they never lived up to their hype. Their debut This Is It is still one of my favorite albums ever. It is in my top five. I'd argue it's still the best American rock album of the last twenty five years. Their second album is very good too. After that the albums have been really hit or miss but with each of them having some really great songs on them. One of their problems is they don't get along. Their second to last album was recorded without being in the same room as the lead singer. Edit- They do still have a decent following though. Every album they have released since their debut has made the top ten.

I don't think Comedown Machine is a bad album and prefer it to Angles. There's a few solid tracks on there (One Way Trigger, Slow Animals, Call It Fate Call It Karma).
It was also their last album on the RCA label which they didn't seem to like being under hence why the band didn't promote Comedown Machine at all. I think the sixth album will be released on Julian's independent label.

Few things could excite me less than a new Strokes album. Maybe a Julian solo album.

Their last album was horribly dull. I'm not really expecting much from this but I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

Angles was decent, about a 6/10. But Comedown Machine sounded like the musical equivalent of cardboard. Apart from playing with the MJ vibe as its been said (Which worked on a few songs quite well, maybe in an ironic way), it was very dull.
I liked Tap Out, Welcome to Japan, 50/50, Chances but the rest is pretty "meh" as they say.

Wolfgang Amadeus and Bankrupt are two great albums. I'd still take Room on Fire and Is This It over them but they are way better than the last three Strokes albums. I'd also take Phoenix's third best album United over the Strokes third best album. The Strokes had way better moments but Phoenix is the more consistent band and I have to respect them for that after going for over a decade they are only getting better. Listzomania is really really overrated in my opinion, one of the more annoying Phoenix songs. 1901 is great, Fences, Rome, Lasso, Girlfriend, Rome, and Armistice are all better songs off the same album in my opinion. Entertainment, The Real Thing Trying to Be Cool, Drakkar Noir, Bourgeois, and Oblique City are all good-great songs off their newest. Strokes don't even have one song off their newest that compare to the about half of Bankrupt!

I've listened to all of the songs now and I think this is a Let it Be moment. The songs are exorbitantly interesting and not bad at all. But OBLIVIUS and Drag Queen are "obliviously" Jule's The Voidz left overs - played by the Strokes. ... Which is not bad ... for me at least!

I'll give this EP a spin but to be honest this band hasn't been relevant in a long long time. Maybe 2003-2004. I feel like they are a band in name only and are forced to work together out of obligation to their fans. They all come from money so the fire doesn't burn as bright for them as a creative force.

I'd say that Ángeles was pretty damn good bar one or two tracks. I cant listen to the ep. But, if it's better than the last álbum it would be great.

The Strokes are only doing new music to explain their huge and pricey festival tickets now. the new stuff sound half arsed. The "real" music from them comes from their solo stuff, now it seems. Which has been declining as well.
