Noel can write a chorus and a melody as good or better than any songwriter but one thing he has never really done is tell a story. Here are some of my favorites songs that tell complete stories. Anybody have any favorites of their own?
The River-Bruce Springsteen
Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels)-Arcade Fire
Fast Car-Tracy Chapman
Sliver-Nirvana
It Was A Good Day-Ice Cube
Into The Great Wide Open-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Signs - Tesla
The acoustic version is perfect, and just the way the song should've been done in the first place. I love the political message in it, and how it doesn't go completely overboard. Good sing along song, too.

The Beatles have a lot of songs that tell a story, especially the ones written by McCartney. He would continue to do this a lot in his solo career.

With regards to Noel's songs not having a story element to them, could the argument be made for Gas Panic telling the story of Noel overcoming his addiction?

one tree hill - u2 Ballad of john and yoko - beatles Like a rock - bob seger I always wondered who the him was in the song. Did Terry cheat on him? The song also contains one of my favorite lyrics ever.

So is Dont Go Away, at least the first verse. None of his other songs tell a narrative story that I can think of off the top of my head. Although I'm not big on rap: I do think rap is a better genre of music suited for story telling. The Beatles have a lot of songs that tell a story, especially the ones written by McCartney. He would continue to do this a lot in his solo career. Yeah the Beatles have plenty.. "She's Leaving Home" was the first one of theirs that came to mind.

I always thought it was about a girl but then during the born in the usa tpur on mtv he said it was his tribute to stevie cause he informed him he was leaving e steet
It makes sense the lyric
"we liked the same music We liked the same bands We liked the same clothes "
maybe terry was his ex? Or maybe him good question

So is Dont Go Away, at least the first verse. No of his other songs tell a narrative story that I can think of off the top of my head. I'd argue Fade Away that could fall under the category of a song that tells a narrative story.
