I think 'Barbarians' might be 'Natives at the gates of Rome', which pete played with babyshambles around 08. Live version much better than demo
I think 'heart of the matter' is 'art of the matter', which is on youtube and some pete solo bootlegs in various forms.
I also found this from Paul Roundhill's channel, he posts loads of videos of Peter playing new songs, and this is called 'heart of the matter'. I'm not gonna listen to it because I've heard enough of the new songs, but if you fancy it, here it is, maybe it's this:
You can find all this just on youtube. Personally I think Fame and Fortune is 'The Domestic', which you can find kicking around on an old pre-album live bootleg somewhere, but it got removed off youtube a while ago.
And I posted a link to the demo of 'The milkman's Horse' earlier in the thread. Bear in mind the song now has a new chorus to the demo.
anyway enjoy

Sounds much better than it did live - huge chorus, verses are clearer as well, love it. I was enjoying it until Carl started singing. Pete's voice certainly suits the song much better, and Carl can sound rather grating at times...which is why I found the Jackals album, as good as it is, a little hard to listen to in its entirety. Should just have let Pete have this one.

Oh, I love this. Especially the chorus with the microtonal change.

Thought carl sounded great. Couldn't make out that 'I'm a bastard in the morning line live' - love it! Guitars sound great in the verses. After a first listen not sure about the massed voices in the chorus, very one direction, and you can't hear the guitar line like you can live - which is the real chorus.
On a related note, I love Carl sort of rapping to the Camera like he's in an ASAP mob video. Absolutely ridiculous, but I wholeheartedly enjoyed it

Actually, I am far too entertained by the posse cut video. Gary looks like someone they've picked up along the way and John looks like their sober mate being like 'for fuck's sake lads, we could get back home in twenty minutes if you just shut the fuck up and keep walking.'

The song is AWESOME. Genuinely great, love both Pete and Carls bit, makes it a proper libs song, chorus is mega aswell. This band was a big part of my childhood so for me this is like christmas And September 4th release? How wonderfully quick! PS. I like some of Carls solo/Jackals stuff but not much, he needs the libs. He has a great voice for libertines songs, particular Vertigo.

I like the single the more I listen to it...
The song's about addiction, ICYMI. "missed a vein...", and "sick and tired of being sick and tired..." is a classic line used in recovery.
Pete's getting really gray, hope he keeps it together.
God bless.

Pete's getting really gray, hope he keeps it together. God bless. Weller's doing alright. And the song is a proper fucking tune!

Pete's getting really gray, hope he keeps it together. God bless. Weller's doing alright. And the song is a proper fucking tune! I read that and thought he meant his skin. Hadn't even noticed his hair after all these years of keeping an eye on the present colour of Pete's skin. One of the joys of being a libertines fan. Guess flushing all that shit out of your system takes it out of you. He looks healthier though, happy for him, really hope he keeps it up for his own sake. And as long as he's still making music I'll still want to hear it

Oh, I don't think the color of his hair would effect the music, just wondering how he's doing personally... He's pretty young to be going that gray... I have some gray, which I've had for literally like 25 years, it's kind of a birthmark. And, I have some gray in my goatee area, which, speaking of your name, I discovered while in jail for 20 days for murder - in that time I didn't shave and noticed the grày. Thanks.

Ok, so Barbarians IS Natives at the gates of Rome. They played it in Milan.
Enjoy
In fairness it is a fucking tune, and not one they ever really completed. Most of this album is stuff that's been kicking around for years that they'be finished, but that's actually quite common. Only difference is the libertines (particularly pete) tend to post stuff online or play it live as soon as they have the idea.
It's still different to the bonus tracks, which were always complete and available in High quality recordings. Glad we're getting both. More Libertines songs

Polished. I'm an in between Libertines fan - they have some good material, but also can be extremely messy. But the Libertines in 2003 wouldn't have crated this. The chorus is as polished as they've ever been. Not that that's a bad thing, just don't call it genuine Libertines.

Pete's getting really gray, hope he keeps it together. God bless. Yup, but it's clear that they're stuck in their relapses and constant using. It's not a positive song, but gives a nod in the chorus to the men who can stay sober. Everything about this song works, including Carl singing, and the music video. For a messy band, they came together well here.
