I only know 1 song by Jet. That's because Jet sucks. Another Dave Sardy mess.

I love Coldplay, The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys, but their best work is behind them isn't it? As for Jet and Kasabian, don't make me laugh!
The fact my phone doesn't even recognise the word Kasabian and autocorrects to 'lesbian' shows how insignificant they are.

Jet Lol. Is it them who stole that Iggy Pop song??
Pff... If I had too choose from that list, it'd be the Arctic Monkey, by a long, long way. Far from my favourite post-Oasis band though!

none of the above but kasabian are a close contender even tho they are like marmite Kasabian never came close to Oasis. They're a very one dimensional band. In all honesty, even though I'm not a fan, Coldplay came closest to them IMO. I really like The Strokes but they only had one amazing album, one that was almost amazing and then it's all down hill from there. I'm still holding out hope that they redeem themselves someday. as one dimensional as they maybe you cant deny the fact they are an amazing live band which is where it really counts and the singer is brilliant live he gives it his all at every gig they do,,coldplay only have a handfull of tunes i really like chris martin is to busy tryin to save the world whch gets on my wick a little and ive never been a fan of the strokes personally i would also say arctic monkeys came close to a cultural impact as oasis todays generation have fuck all except manufactured shite to listen to shit like beyonce 1Direction and miley cyrus

They're very good at one type of song which doesn't cut it for me.

Wow.......what a random list of bands. Jet? Come on. Gimme a break!!!!! One hit wonders. The Strokes haven't been relevant since 2004 sadly. Coldplay is by far the biggest band of the bunch and reaches far greater commercial heights than Oasis ever accomplished. And for longer too. The Monkeys have been hit or miss for me. Brilliant debut but only average albums until AM came out which I only listen to half that album. Lennon2217 is absolutely right about everything in that post . but as I say every time this comes up they and the rest are not the 'next OASIS" Oasis mixed a phenomal musical run , but there cultural signifigance in the uk was even greater albeit brief OASIS trancended there music and were cemented in britains culture , the way they dressed talked and cut there hair coldplay and the rest cant say that just like zep and the stones cant say they transcended music , musically I prefer them way more than the beatles but the beatles transcended music (for alot longer ) jut as OASIS did in the mid 90s who knows in this era of music if a band will ever influence lad culture , hairstyles , and speach , I dont see any on the horizon

None of them above.
What Oasis has done in 90's in UK is similar to what The Sex Pistols has done in late 70's in UK. Not only music, but culture, lifestyle and everything. Bands like them can only be born once in a decade or longer. Just like there has only one Beatles, there has been only one Oasis.
I love and would love to find and see a band which doesn't want to be a "next big thing" (NME's favourite slogan which means nothing to me) or "next Oasis". If you want to make it happen, don't try to be a "next...", but the first one.

Would've been the Libertines if not for Pete's personal problems. They did change the the way music was spread and changed the culture to a point.
Hopefully their new album fucks everyone in the ass.
God bless.

Whilst being hugely influential musically they had nowhere near the cultural impact as The Beatles. Very few bands can infiltrate the public psyche in the way that these few bands have. and I'm not sure that we'll see another one for a long time. You could argue that One Direction spawned a generation of wankers, but I'm not sure if that counts.

Out of all of them, The Strokes put out the best record: Is This It. One of the best albums of the century so far. It's a masterpiece. Their problem is, they have never come close to releasing something as good as that record. They've been trying new sounds on their most recent albums, but I really don't like where they've been heading. (80's synth pop? I mean, really.)
That said, I'd say the best one is Coldplay. I love Arctic Monkeys, but Coldplay was the only one from this list to become absolutely massive. In terms of culture, I'd argue they made the biggest impact. I know a lot of people—especially on this forum—hate them for trying to be the next U2 as of the last 10 years or so, but they have put out some fantastic records (Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head) and are phenomenal live. (Seriously. And I'm a tough critic.)

Coldplay.
first 2 albums are considered the best. peaked at 3rd album in terms of sales. slight dip in sales since but tours have got larger. all albums gone number one. Likely to split after album #7. very similar to oasis.

I would rank them:
The Strokes (Is This It is an amazing album and the best album any of these four bands have made) Arctic Monkeys (All of their albums are at least good to me though none are as strong as Is This It)
Coldplay (obviously the most commercially succesful of all four but they're not my thing. Especially Mylo Xyloto which was a very commercial and boring album.)

None of them are really similar, but the most popular one is definitely Coldplay. That is the ONLY band out of those that's popular nearly all over the world. And tbh, out of them, I think Coldplay is the best one too.

Used to really like Coldplay and now I've grown to really hate them. Chris Martin appearing at that Tide launch with his stupid looking earring really made me hate him even more.

They really know how to cook up a massive setlist and their stage theatrics aren't over the top. Their fans go nuts too. All ages. You could tell in 2001 The Strokes weren't gonna be a band to last long. Maybe 2-3 albums. Sure they are still a "band" but the life of that unit was sucked out a long time ago. First Impressions of Earth was the nail in the coffin. I get the feeling from interviews and side projects that they don't really like one another anymore and feel forced to record together for their fans and a money grab.

Pre VLV they were stunning live, saw them about 5times . Post VLV they turned into a down market U2 trying gimmicks that didn't work. I saw both U2 (on the 360 tour) and Coldplay within a few weeks of each other and U2 blew them apart.

I'd have said the Libertines had the most potential, they were majorly popular at the time and basically began the new age of indie rock music.

Few bands touch U2 live. Always a beast in person.
