Not a fan (yet), but I have started to listen to them more and more. Still have to listen to most of Currents. I discovered them through the MGMT forum I used to be a member on. Tame Impala were their support act for a part in 2008. Never thought much of them until a few years ago. My sister and a few friends of mine are big fans though. Tame Impala went way way up and MGMT sank so so low. That is so true, unfortunately. Oracular Spectacular was great, Congratulations was solid, but what the fuck is that last album? They completely lost it.

They completely lost it. I don't know what their deal is. Spring/Summer of 2008 for me was filled with songs like "Time To Pretend", "Kids", "Electric Feel", and "Weekend Warriors". They completely ditched those style of songs which made them relevant to so many. That is what they excelled at. Everything after for me has been "meh" or "that's utter shit".

Yeah, that too. Those guys can enjoy dwindling sales and concert attenders.

See if you can get some clips on film when you see em live, Lennon. Lennon2217 isn't kind of a guy who takes a clip with his phone during a gig. Thats alright.

Maybe merge this with the other Tame Impala thread? Did a little review for the Zine. www.live4ever.uk.com/2015/07/review-tame-impala-currents/This album is great. In my top five albums from 2015 right now at least. So safe to say it'll probably make my end of the year top 10 at least.

I know you already know this though.

Well well well, look at what I played just earlier! Just as I got back home from a lunch outing with my friend, what do I see on my doorstep? CURRENTS!!! Took it out and blasted it at 3/4 of max volume on my Magnavox... boy, I loved every minute of it. What an album this is. Kevin Parker deserves thanks for such great music. I freakin salute him.

I cannot believe on slept on this band. I fell for the hype around here and just listened to it. Favorite tracks are Cause I'm a Man, I Should've Known Better, and Love/Paranoia. Amazing record! Love the synth mastery at work here! Feels out of this world, which is my favorite feeling when listening to these tunes.

I know you already know this though. Thanks man! Appreciate it. Yeah, you're correct haha. I used the term pretty loosely for sure. Coulda used something else in at least two palce. Tame Impala definitely aren't band of people especially with this release, guess I could have gone on to explain just how awesome Parker is at his instrumentation that it feels like a band. He's Mecca-esque playing and his krautrock drumming are just as good as his guitar licks and melodies. Most solo multi-instrumental songwriters have a distinct feel to them, kinda hard to explain. I guess they just aren't as well rounded musicians as Kevin or maybe they just don't have a concrete aesthetic like him? Tame Impala isn't a band, but they definitely feel like one considering just how capable Parker's skills are as an calculated arranger and organic player.

Tame Impala isn't a band, but they definitely feel like one considering just how capable Parker's skills are as an calculated arranger and organic player. I remember when Kevin was doing press for "Lonerism" he explained that there really wasn't any band it was just a recommendation his record company made to get better press. Easier to promote and create mystique than just have one unknown guy and his solo project. Worked brilliantly. I didn't know any of that between 2010 and 2012 when he revealed that info. On a flip side, it would be interesting if Kevin went into the studio at some point and made an album with his touring backing band (aka....The Pond guys mostly). Very unlikely because it sounds like Kevin is a complete and total control freak. I would however expect a lot more collaborations with other artists after his Mark Ronson success.

WHAT? It's just Kevin Parker? Woah, didn't know that. That's amazing. Yep, pretty much for all three albums he did all the recording by himself. Except this time Dave Fridmann didnt produce.

With regard to Parker's help on albums leading up to Currents.
Lonerism has Jay Watson – playing piano on "Apocalypse Dreams" and he does keys on "Elephant" and Parker's ex and muse on Currents, Melody Prochet speaks on "Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything We Could Control".
Innerspeaker - Dave Fridmann mixes and Lief Podhajsky do the artwork and layout just like they did on Lonerism.
However, Innerspeaker is the most band Tame Impala record though (at least according to wiki). Dom Simper – plays bass on "The Bold Arrow of Time" and "Island Walking"; additional guitar on "Runway, Houses, City, Clouds"; additional sound effects on "Jeremy's Storm" and Jay Watson does drums on "Solitude is Bliss", "The Bold Arrow of Time" and "Island Walking"; guitar on interlude after "The Bold Arrow of Time".
With Currents Parker has just gotten stronger as a producer, arranger, and musician. It's a really personal album. Everything note s him and the concept behind the artwork is strongly his as well.

Girlfriend of three and half years and I broke up yesterday. Let's just say this album is hitting all the emotions. Damn... Gotta say this, Kendrick Lamar, Jamie xx, Kamasi Washington, and Beach House have the best five albums. Chasing Yesterday and Star Wars (wilco) not too far behind either to be honest.
I don't know if its "better" than Lonerism but I still think Currents probably his most realized work.
Let It Happen, The Less I Know the Better (that beautiful rhodes sound in the chorus!), and Eventually are all top 20 songs from this year, and that's not mentioning the other great tracks on here.
