I think Sardy is the prime example of modern day Noel Gallagher. Noel seen the success of DBTT, in particular the success of the singles and thought Sardy was the way forward. Anyone, including Noel Gallagher, can see how much life was sucked out of the production of the albums he worked on. But sales figures and commercial significance means so much more to Noel. The irony is the two big singles off DBTT have nothing to do with Dave Sardy. Written and produced before he came on board. I remember thinking actually Importance Of Being Idle is one of my favourite produced Oasis songs and then i found out soon after it was produced before Sardy and it just made me hate the man even more. I think if we are to look for any credit for the man, on some songs the cleanliness (if thats the right word) being able to hear each instrument gives the songs a nice feel that maybe some overblown tracks from the 90s could have benefited from. But in the main this is a sort of one trick pony approach and his production with Noel has actually nearly ruined songs for me.

Which is why I was very pleased he wasn't available for CY and probably isn't working with Noel on the next album either.

It still makes me shudder that the only reason he wasn't producer was because he actually turned Noel down. The sad thing is Noel will probably look at sales of CY compared to his debut and ask Sardy back.

Bu the sound of it at least they're not working together on the next one.

People need to remember the difference between mixing and mastering. You can have a great, uncompressed fresh mix of a song with great clarity and separation of instruments, with a high dynamic range, be completely obliterated and smashed to the peak 0 decibel limit right before clipping just to make it loud. Lyla and TIOBI may have not been mixed and produced by Sardy, but whoever mastered DBTT should slap themselves, especially on A Bell Will Ring and Mucky Fingers. Brickwall mastering is dangerous and damages the quality of music.
Sardy obviously had his fingers all over DOYS and it shows on Shock of the Lightning. The vinyl rip is evident that in the mixing he made it as loud as possible, and by the mastering phase just even more louder.

Noel should remember that the Beatles would have been nobody without George Martin. Just as there would've been no Oasis without Owen Morris. Even the most talented artists need a talented producer to take the songs they write and shape them into something with its own distinctive sound.
