the more I listen, the more I think of it as an "answer" to Second Bite Of The Apple. calling it a trowaway when BE would have made it a first single. I love SBOTA, but it's just missing a.. SONG, if you know what I mean. here you simply got a good song growing up to a bomb. but it's no Noel Gallagher single material. Fair play if you think that mate. I don't think it would have made first single on anyone's album and certainly not BE. Agreed. It reminds me more of "Wind Up Dream" than "Second Bite...". Pure album track.

Noel's most "dad rock" track. I think you're wrong there. That dishonorable title goes to (Probably) All in the Mind imo.

The more I listen to the live version, the more I agree with this thread. The more that you want it, the more that you need it.

Typical Liberal. Other songs are doing the hard work, but you want to replace the legitimate singles with the Mexican.

Honestly have no idea why people don't like it. Probably the 3rd best song on the album for moi.

It's dad rock because the riff is only cool for dads... show it to a kid and he'll answer with something louder...

The first time I listened to "The Mexican" I could not help to think how this tune would pair nicely with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' more recent LP releases, namely "Highway Companion" or "Hypnotic Eye".
I very much enjoy this tune. I think it appropriately further develops contrast among the jazzy and disco elements that are sprinkled throughout the offering.

I'm a fucking cool teenager and I love that riff. Don't get the dad-rock acusations. It's the weakest song on the album and DEFINITELY not a single but is still pretty good for me - the second half is pretty epic imo.
Also, I really fucking like ITHOTM - ice cool and catchy as hell. For me, the first NGHFB song that gave me that epic "me and Noel/Oasis rule the world" feeling like DYKWIM or Supersonic. (Lock all the Doors/YKWCGB/BOTMI also now). Although some on NGHFB came close (WAL, TDOYAM)
Hope Riverman, TDOTL and either Lock All the Doors or YKWCGB are the next singles.

I don't care what the next single is. I just want more b-sides.

I just can't understand someone who appreciate the ...Like Clockwork from Queens of the Stone Age and dislike The Mexican. If you're not a fan of QOTSA, ignore me.

But it WAS the 1st single!
Only by BRMC and it was called "Whatever Happened to My Rock and Roll (Punk Song)".

It sounds like he came up with a riff, then turned the amps up to 6 instead of 11.

Is it just me or is The Mexican like a better thought out version of Wind Up Dream?
Similar tempo, nonsense lyrics, just much better.

The Mexican is easily the weakest track on the album but it isn't horrible by any means. Nice riff, raunchy groove, and it has one of the more underrated vocals on the album. Noel showing some character and a little sass in that vocal. From 2:18 onwards it boards on being good, one of my favorite moments on the album - the rest of the song decent enough.
Those who are saying its plagiarism of BRMC should get their ears cleaned out and maybe should listen to more rock n' roll because the genre has been reusing the same chords/chord progressions for decades now. Noel has way more obvious nicks than this. Hell, it isn't even the most borrowed song on Chasing Yesterday. That honor goes to Lock All the Door's verse melody.
I hear similarities in the melody in places, and i use that very lightly but that's just lazy saying its plagiarized. Mexican grooves with a rolling stone vibe whereas Whatever Happened to My Rock n Roll is a blistering post-punk/shoegaze anthem.

BRMC are one of those bands with a nice enough sound but it gets boring once you realize that's all they do (imo of course). Anyway, The Mexican, liking it more and more right now - wouldn't call it the worst song on CY by a long shot.

If there are 4 singles. 1 will be TDOTL and the other with be Riverman, because Noel really love that tune. Seems to be his go to song to request radio stations to play from the new album IMO
I think the should have released You Know We Can't Go Back instead of ITHOTM or Mighty I personally though. Both those tunes have dance undertones and I think they would have been well served showing a bit of variety in the prealbum singles.
It's be a good summer single I think though
