Catchy as hell with a killer riff, radio friendly and quite different, would make a lot of people think "who's that" . Much better than the horror that is ITHOTM. Seems to be a critics favourite as well.

I still think In The Heat of The Moment was an awesome first single. Sets the tone. Noel sounds great.

I still think In The Heat of The Moment was an awesome first single. Sets the tone. Noel sounds great. Most people who aren't Noel fans who I've spoken to dont like ITHOTM. I know it's not a statically survey but it just lacks appeal. I think El Mexicano would've done much better. In a very strange way it reminds me of Vertigo by U2.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone outside this forum that knows ITHOTM. I do know it has a good forum rep. Much better than the Mexican.

The mexican didn't grow that much on me, I still think it's a rather generic, uninspired, lazy, throwaway song. On the other hand, ITHOTM has a clearer hook.

don't know if it should have been a single but i do love the song. Sounds like U2 during the Pop era

The Mexican is probably the least popular song on here of the new album. Most of his fans don't even like it, why would the masses?
I think In The Heat Of The Moment was a good choice. Maybe not the best choice, but still.

I think THE MEXICAN is the weakest song on an admittedly strong album.
Noel's never going to have a hit single again anyway - no matter how good it is - so it doesn't really matter to me what gets chosen.

No, the Mexican is probably the most throwaway track on the album. ITHOFM doesn't blow my mind, but it gets the job done. I could argue that maybe YKWCGB would've been a better choice, even LATD, but they're not so clear cut and straight to the point like ITHOTM is.

I like the Mexican, but it's kinda annoying that the guitar just keeps on playing the verse riff when the song enters the first chorus...makes it sound very repetitive. A lot better from the second chorus on where it's actually kinda great imo, still one of the weaker songs.

Te critic seems to love The Mexican. Not a first single though. ITHOTM was a good first single, not because is a great song (it's good, not great), but because it's clearly made for sounding good on the radio. On my headphones I don't like it, when I hear it in the car yes, because is a "radio friendly" song and the arrangement is clearly made for that.

I rate the song but I understand why some don't like it. It's a long way away from Noel's usual style (even though he does rip off his own Force of Nature vocal line...xD), like it's deliberately cheesy rock. The backing vocals on the chorus are great and everything from the 2nd chorus onwards saves the whole thing. It's definitely grown on me after a good number of listens!

I'd have Do The Damage on the album before this. Definitely my least favourite song released, including Revolution Song and Freaky Teeth.

It's better than Riverman, Girl With The X-Ray Eyes, Ballad Of The Mighty I, In The Heat Of The Moment and While The Song Remains The Same.
So yeah I agree, probably should have been a single.

In the Heat of the Moment is the biggest Oasis related track ever...
...
Sorry, i forgot this part: ...released the 13 october 2014 on a FB announcement. It is indeed the worst Oasis related track of 2014
On the other hand The Mexican is maybe the worst Oasis related song of 2015. But still better than ITHOTM.
So no: it shouldn't have been a single, just like ITHOTM. But that one was clearly made for the radio.

Vertigo was a big U2 hit despite it being pretty much a riff and thats it. Same with El Mexicano, it would be a hit.

I don't really like it when I listen to it at home, but I do when I hear it on the radio or tv.

Both WAL TDOYAM destroyed BOTMI and ITHOTM anyway
