After more listens I think this is the best song Noel has produced in years. It's so relaxing, the melody is beautiful, that driving bassline and that floating acoustic guitar are perfect together, the guitar solo is awesome, the sax adds even more mood to the song along with a great vocal. Love the lyrics too, very mysterious. It's just absolutely perfect.

I think people are raving about it because it's instantly the best instrumentation he's done for years. A bit of a jump from HFB where he said he didn't even care about the drum sound etc. As far as the song itself goes, it's hardly unique enough to be put so far up there with his top songs. TDOTL and BOTMI are IMO the only contenders for that. The rest of the record is mostly better than Riverman too. If not all of it (even though You Know We Can't Go Back is like a lost Robbie Williams song ).

Top 10 in the context of his solo stuff, easily, but then that's not very difficult. Will be forgotten about in a couple of years.

Top 10 in the context of his solo stuff, easily, but then that's not very difficult. Will be forgotten about in a couple of years. I bet somebody said the same thing about Supersonic in 1994 (Just joking, clearly Riverman is no Supersonic. This is an idiotic reply to an idiotic comment)

I'm gonna be very disappointed if Riverman doesn't live up to my very high expectations. It might not be within his top 10 of all time but to even entertain this suggestion must mean it's a very very good song. Really looking forward to this one.

Not in the same universe as his top ten, but what is?
But it's the same as this whole album - it's fresh, creative, diverse, thoughtful, and part of the brilliance that is Chasing Yesterday!

There are few songs these days that are better than his top10.

No way top 10, but it's a classic.
By far the best song on the album. But it needs it's time and listenings.

Definitely one of his top ten songs, best guitar solo in a decade+, even if he didn't play it, great use of the sax, excellent lyrics and vocals and the drums are perfect for the song. Best song he's written in a long time. Probably bottom part of the top ten but its in there for me. And to be honest The Dying of the Light isn't far off his top ten either.

For me, the answer is an unequivocal YES. By far my favorite track on the album. It starts out as a grooving little Pinball rip-off, but then the chorus hit and took my breath away. Those soaring choruses are my favorite thing about Noel Gallagher music, and this one is gorgeous and delivers in a big way. An epic of a song.

At first i thougt it wasnt that good, but to me its grown even more on me than ballad of the mighty I did.. Riverman is one of the few songs that i end up having the verses AND chorus stuck in my head all day
