I must admit im a little suprised to see the mexican being described as filler, imo its brilliant, i love the riff, i think its a great down and dirty little rock n roll song, it would of fitted perfectly on the arctic monkeys AM album. first post by the way ive been lurking for a while, loving the whole album so far.

I went for Lock all the Doors / TDOTL although my opinion is bound to change.
Definitely a solid album

It looks like Riverman is the clear king of the album, and for good reason. I'm surprised The Right Stuff is neck and neck with TDOTL, I feel they are both completely different songs and have different moods to them.

While The Song Remains The Same / Lock All The Doors
First listen:
Riverman: 7/10 In The Heat Of Moment: 5.5/10 The Girl With The X-Ray Eyes: 6/10 Lock All The Doors: 8/10 The Dying Of The Light: 7/10 The Right Stuff: 8/10 While The Song Remains The Same: 8.5/10 The Mexican: 2/10 (by far, worst Noel song ever) You Know We Can't Go Back: 7/10 The Ballad Of The Might I: 6/10
Average: 6.5
Obviously, far from being a masterpiece.

"But it's alllllllllllllllllright! You know we can't go back!" Love this song! About time Noel wrote some upbeat numbers with major chords. First time since the BHN era. (SOTL not withstanding though even that song I wouldn't consider upbeat---more driving)

Interesting that BOTMI is currently sitting at 8.
I think people might be getting slightly carried away with Riverman, a tune certainly but not a highlight for me at the moment.
My top 4 at the moment
Lock All The Doors Dying of the Light The Girl with the X-Ray Eyes Ballad of the Mighty I

Oh and by the way, you guys are WAY too hard on ITHOTM. It's a good song, it's just that after listening to it for more than 500 times (I know I did) since it launched you all got a little tired of it.

Riverman, Right Stuff and Ballad of the Mighty I are by far the best tracks.

Has to be The Right Stuff, not only is it unlike anything he's done before but it's also amazing which is a nice bonus. The sax at 00:20 is better than anything off his entire first album.

Don't really "get" Riverman. Would rather just listen to Pinball by Brian Protheroe.

I voted for Riverman and The Right Stuff but now I'm not so confident they are the best tracks. What if TDOTL and BOTMI are? Or any combination of the four?
You know you are dealing with a great album when roughly half of it is 'a highlight'. It's also interesting that the strongest tracks are the ones that open and close both sides.
EDIT: I'm going to change my vote from The Right Stuff to Mighty I just to balance the scores a little bit more.

hard to choice but:
Riverman Ballad of the Mighty I
I didn't like BOTMI too much but after listening on the album I really really love it. Love the vocals, one of the best of Noel, love the piano, love the guitar. Epic tune.
