I've not heard The Dying Of the Light in any form. Not even a cover. So I have no idea what to expect. Which exactly the point. Since the release is so close, the first time we should hear the song (for those of us who haven't) should be the official release. Then after that only should we hear the demo. It completely lessens the impact of the record version by releasing the demo before the album version. It's pointless. Either they should release the album version first as a single so that that becomes the version the world hears first. Or they shouldn't release anything at all. I don't want to hear reviews of he song before the album version is released FFS. If you didn't listen to the soundcheck version after all this time (and well done for doing that, I'm too weak for soundchecks and leaks ) I'm sure you can wait for the album version, it's only two weeks away. It's not like it was with Freaky Teeth, that we only had the demo and the live version for years before having a proper release. Absolutely. This is why they shouldn't release anything before the album drops. TDOTL should be presented to the world as the finished product and that should be the first time I (and others who haven't heard it) should hear it. You could say "well, don't listen to it then". Well, I'm a Noel fan so will buy it simply to support him. So essentially I'll be buying the vinyl and letting it gather dust while I wait for the album. Again, I don't see the point of this.

Again, even if the case if just to strengthen bonds with HMV, they should release the demo AFTER the album. If they release it now, no one bar the hardcore fanbase will care to buy it. After the album is released and The Dying Of the Light becomes a hit single, more people would be interested in hearing the demo. Maybe even those outside the core fanbase. If the vinyl is really just for the hardcore fans, then releasing it now makes no sense. The hardcore fans don't need a £2 reduction as an incentive to by the album. They wouldn't be hardcore fans if they did. A release like this is tailor made for hardcore fans. No one else. It's a cool idea. I wish I had access to buying the single. Also, TDOTL will not be a hit single. It'll repeat what IIHAG did. Exactly so who's the best people to do a promotion for the hardcore fans that 100% gonna buy it so why not tempt them to buy it from you while giving them an exclusive numbered vinyl. I think thats WIN WIN all round

Other than the lucky few people who get to buy this limited edition vinyl, nobody else is hearing it. Oh yeah sure it'll be posted here online but outside this forum NOBODY is looking for it or cares to look for it.

Yes but if HMV can get the hardcore buying from them and not tesco or amazon etc then they got probably £18? in sales per hardcore fan for selling on 10" vinyl and and album vs the £0 they'd get when some one buys it of amazon if theres was no incentive. Yes, I can see how this benefits HMV. And if the release of this vinyl is to simply rub some backs and kiss some arses, then yes Noel's management probably succeeded in that.

Oh get over it. The only people that are going to buy this 10" single are fans of the man. Its not going to be played on radio for the "world" or anything like that. You don't get to make the decision for those of us that want to hear it as soon as we can. That's the beauty of free will and getting to make the decision for yourself. If you think there is something there waiting and hearing it all in one go, GOOD FOR YOU! I'll listen to what I can, when I can, and enjoy the album just the same when I can listen to it all in full on the date the record company decided for me (or whenever its leaked). Release dates are a marketing tool that you're buying into. The point of this single is simple: Its marketing. That's all it is. It's not a surprise that they're including a discount voucher for the album with the purchase of this single. Its to squeeze a few more pounds out of fans who will buy anything that Noel squirts out. It should be said "Don't listen to it then". You're trying to justify your own opinion and it falls completely flat.

Well like i said prior the fact its the same thing that happened with the prior to remasters obv it is a deal thats been struck. Ill guarantee you Noels album will be positioned in the front on HMV for few weeks which you have to 'rub some backs to do'. HMV sales are awesome too, i know this sounds negative (its not) After year or so if your CD is prominent their 2 for £10, 3 for £12 etc it will sell you a lot of units.

I'm genuinely looking forward to this. To actually get up early on Monday morning, go to a shop and buy a record on its release day is a novelty these days. The excitement of taking it home, dropping the needle on the record and hearing a a piece of music for the first time. It's also the first time we'll hear this song in anything that remotely resembles it's finished form.
I'd have to agree with Jim; instant gratification of online streaming and youtube videos has killed the excitement factor in listening to music.

Do you honestly believe that in the event that TDOTL is a hit that they wouldn't re-release the demo? Whose to say that the demo doesn't become more widely available regardless of chart performance later on down the line? Noel hasn't had a top ten solo or with Oasis (outside of the Indie chart) performer since The Shock of the Lightning and thats only looking at the UK.

They should be targeting the general public not the hardcore fans. All that's gonna happen with this vinyl release is that many more people will hear the song before the album is released. I bought an album recently and the album was being promoted with the option of a poster or a logo guitar pick when I paid for it. That sort of thing is called good marketing.

very very few things are true exclusives nowadays.
This is probably an exclusive vinyl but this track will undoubtedly be featured on CD / DL at some point in the next 18 months

I bought an album recently and the album was being promoted with the option of a poster or a logo guitar pick when I paid for it. That sort of thing is called good marketing. Uh yeah. Noel's just monetized a DEMO. One track. And yes, the hardcore fans are the ones who will plop down their 5 POUNDS for 1 SONG when back in the day, these demo tracks were tacked on as extras to other releases. Again, we don't know if this demo will not be available anywhere else. If the song is a hit (and lets be real, its unlikely to be one), whats to stop another press or a digital release to make more money off of general public? I don't know ANYONE outside of fans that are going to even bother to look for this to listen to. The general public's first exposure to TDOTL will be the album version anyway. HMV in the UK is not even scratching the surface of the amount of people that will be able to buy the album. You're assuming that people are going to want to listen to a demo of a song that don't even know the title to. The general public dont give a fuck about a track they don't know right now. "That many more people will hear the song", drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things. More won't hear it than will.

The marketing is for HMV.. The only place to mention this is HMV and then tonight Noel's site who mention HMV. It really is that simple. I personally think this much better thing then getting a mass produced poster or plectrum. Getting a ltd numbered demo of a song on vinyl is much more special. I also personally think giving you it prior to the album coming out, and the fact you don't have to buy from them to receive the fan item is even better in my option

I will be in London the 7th march. How much will CY cost at HMV? Less or more than Amazon? He's not releasing (apparently) the physical copy in Italy so I need to buy it from Amazon (18€ for the standard version, not a chance) or HMV.

I think it's a pretty cool idea. I'm patient so I don't mind waiting for the album version and I love having demo versions of songs and stuff, not that I'm able to buy this though as I live in the US and don't have a record player.

It's going to be pretty damn depressing seeing the vinyl being sold on eBay for prices unspeakable. I'm glad HMV are working with Ignition in such a way that just the fans can enjoy. Good job, Noel.

They're both rehashes of the Wonderwall chords.
