I like it. I'm not thrilled but i can see it getting airplay on the radio. The chorus has a nice melody. Don't know why you're moaning about a big chorus. Not every song needs a big chorus.

I liked ITHOTM a lot but this song is fantastic !! .
And the production is surprisingly also very good. I confess I was afraid of Noel producing the album himself (remember HC). But the three songs we have heard to date have very good production.
This is what I expect from Noel circa 2015: great melodies wrapped in rich sound textures. I am really hyped by the album now. Some NGHFB songs were his best in years but the lack of any trace of sonic adventure spolied them a little bit for me. It seems "Chasing yesterday" is going to solve that !

This completely messed up my initial idea about the chords though. Capo 3, not 4. Starts off with a Fmin, then some kind of Fsus something (113121), then switches to Am, C, before going into the chorus. Here I believe it's F, Am, F, Am, C, G. Any musicians care to correct me?
Correction: I believe the chorus to be D, Am, D, Am, C, G actually.

Its not a bad song. Noel Gallagher doesn't really write bad songs but on first few listens there is something a bit bland about it. I'm not one of these 'GIVE ME AN EARTH SHATTERING CHORUS' types either. There are elements to it I like and it is vastly superior to the first single but I'm still not convinced about Noel's production talents.

I'm still not convinced about Noel's production talents. His demos are usually pretty good, but this is INXS meet Coldplay

Five listens of the complete version now and my view is that...this is an incredible song! I listened to the radio edit live and I was so underwhelmed I have to say. No chorus (even though it felt like it was building to something!), fragmented structure, it just felt and sounded weird. Then, after watching the video (which is itself a really great thing!) and getting the full track, as Noel originally intended, I was instantly impressed! This is an epic song! What A Life meets Falling Down but bigger and with very careful instrumentation and mixing. Granted, it doesn't have a standard chorus (more of a grander version of the verse), but the sheer production of the song well and truly makes up for it. Sadly, I think the radio edit is awful and really takes the majesty out of this song and just makes it a strange, stagnant sounding song. I, like many of you, hate radio edits and I think a song of this calibre deserves it's full value on the radio! Anyway, I think it'd be fair to say that no matter what your view of this song as a single or an album track, it's definitely a better album closer than Stop The Clocks. I personally love it more and more with each listen.

And now... where's the preorder for the vinyl on the official store? Or better... what about the B-side?

I hated Stop The Clocks as an album closer and in general, so this is imo definitely an improvement!

just had my first listen and I am not impressed at all. I really hope this isn't the best song on the album as some have said! I wasn't overwhelmed with ITHOTM but this sounds worse. if you are gonna get marr in to do a guitar solo why waste him on a fucking dancey song like this? not a happy bunny at all!

What a Life took a while to grow on me and I eventually grew to really like it, this sounds similar but a hell of a lot more interesting on first listen. I think I'll love it after 4 or 5 listens.
Bring on the b-side! Also we are now only 44 days away from the Japanese album release!

Its pretty good and exciting to hear him doing different styles, it just needs more. It would be like finishing Wonderwall after the "there are many things" bridge section or the DLBIA 'you aint ever going to burn my heart out" section. I know not all songs need big chorus but this song seems like its building up to it and when you are the master of big chorus, why not use one. Overall I am happy with it and think it will sit a bit easier in the context of the album with some more "standard" Noel songs.

Whoever said you can't hear Johnny Marr in this clearly hasn't listened to his two solo albums. That little guitar part at 1:41 into the video is pure Johnny Marr stuff, for example. Classy. Maybe we were expecting a big guitar solo? Yeah, but still... Marr is great at filling the track with his little touches here and there, and his sound is immediately recognizable. Agreed - that's what Marr does, what Marr has always done. There were about two guitar solos in the entire Smiths discography, his latest single was even more dancey/disco thatn BOTMI, what were people expecting? It works absolutely perfectly.

Listened to it twice now. It could be a grower but I'm a bit underwhelmed by it right now.
ITHOTM and DTD are better in my humble opinion right now...

It comes and it goes and not a lot happens. i respect peoples opinions and if they don't like it then fair enough. But to say not a lot happens...have you got beer cans in your ears??? So much going on in this song, yes its more subtle than we are used to but thats an improvement imo
