Love your review, Elias. The Sads are playing in Edinburgh on New Year's Eve. I wish I could be there!

Listened to "Sun Structures" - VERY Beatles-y but good, all good tunes. Damon Albarn next, look forward to seeing if his voice doesn't make me want to punch him on this lp. Edit : Nope, some great tunes (LOVE the beat on the title track) but as with Blur and Gorillaz, the experience is constantly marred by Albarn's vocals.

I didn't include "More Modern Classics", since it is just a compilation, otherwise it would be the best album, obviously.

I'll mention a couple:
Coldplay - Ghost Stories took a while to really warm to, but once you understand what the album was aiming to achieve (ie. not stadium grandiosity) then I find it really well crafted.
Kasabian - 48:13 was an album that really hooked me this year. I've seen some negativity towards it but I like the direction they've taken with it, and the vast majority of the material is really strong.
Catfish and the Bottlemen - The Balcony is too good to not mention. The energy got me straight away, and I'm very excited to see what they release next. Certainly the debut of a great, great band.

Another great album that I don't think anyone has mentioned: Sylvan Esso's self titled debut.
This song is literally brilliant:

D'Angelo and the Vanguard - Black Messiah. Best album I've heard in AGES, and the best of 2014 by a long shot.

Holy shit!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beck won "Album of the Year" at the Grammys last night. That's wild. Sure I like the album and Blue Moon is a killer track but at no point did I think "I'm listening to the ALBUM OF THE YEAR".
Good for Beck and alternative music.

“Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé,” West said in an interview with E! after the ceremony. “At this point we tired of it because what happens is when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats in music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration."
FFS Kanye piss off already. What an absolute douchebag

Kanye West is a self-absorbed, obnoxious, arrogant cockwomble. And as for that wife of his, would someone please remind me why she's famous?
