Chasing Yesterday feels like it came and went in a flash. It didn't really, it had a solid chart run, but it feels like just a short while ago that we were all going bonkers over the leak. It feels a bit sad. NGHFB was kind of a small miracle, in that it put Noel back where he was in Oasis relevance wise. Chasing Yesterday was a hit by today's standards, but let's face it, Noel's hit making days are likely behind him. I think you might be right. Compared to HFB, CY got little attention from anyone besides us, and there were no "hit" singles. Noel will probably fade into the background after a while, but who knows, even after Macca released a bunch of albums nobody cared about, all of a sudden came Ebony and Ivory. I guess how much people forget Noel depends on how willing he is to give into the mainstream or try something new. A small story about the lack of CY attention, I was at a friends father house last week, the guys about 60 and likes his music. He was (randomly) playing NGHFB and I was surprised and asked him if he liked the new album as well, his reply was "yes Noel Gallagher is great ,that IS his latest album". I reliably informed him his latest was CY. I think a lot of the public have missed it because of the lack of a hit single and press coverage. |

Regarding hit singles, HFB had TDOYAM and WAL as singles that helped the album's promotion. On the other hand, CY had only ITHOTM to carry it, and even that didn't get much exposure. CY's singles, quite honestly, were not that great. ITHOTM is great, but BOTMI doesn't scream "single" even though it is very catchy. Riverman was an absolutely awful choice of single, the song is not radio-friendly at all. And Lock All the Doors is not a bad choice at all, but it's really too little too late, and YKWCGB screams "single" in a way that no other song on CY does. The real takeaway from this is that Noel's management are shit. Not that we needed any more confirmation of that, though.  |

How is he for example ahead of adele's 21 and AM in the indie charts (they are 95 and 64 in the main chart) but he is not in the top 100 of the main chart himself ??

Have you noticed the new Gallagher brother trend dating back to DOYS? B-sides tend to me the songs already released on the deluxe and bonus editions of whatever album they are promoting. Sure there are rare examples like Candles but mostly we get the album bonus tracks. |
