I also find it reminiscent of 'Hello'.

To those saying it's better than ITHOTM: I feel that the large majority of you would be saying the opposite if DTD had been the A Side. It's best to give these songs some time before making sweeping judgements It's all about expectations. Which will be sky high when the first single from the album gets released, but a lot lower when we get to hear the b-side. B-side just did better in relation to the (relatively low) expectations.

Not a big fan of either of his songs so far, they're good but I expected better tbh.
The death of you and me > DTD and ITHOTM

Sounds like a Dad doing The Black Keys doing The Arctic Monkeys on glue I think this is meant as a put-down but that combo sounds like something I'd want on my playlist.

I think this is great, like an album track or b-side during the prime years (think Hello or Headshrinker quality). Noel is really locked into a zone where he's writing SONGS that hang together again. There was a time when he had a lot of trouble doing that. Good to see.

What do you guys think? The chorus is pretty tricky...
There's gold in the city But never quite enough now to pay the rent You could have had it all but the pity As everything you're gonna need is heaven sent
Maybe the dream that we had is gone The people 'round here are like a setting sun They're digging you up when they're knocking you down But they can't stop me from loving you
I did not bother fly and breezed off a lullaby Will do the damage kid If love's what it's all about it's so like a juggernaut Will do the damage kid
Like a stone I was falling Will anybody come and get me out of here? I waited in the rain for the calling Will anybody come and get me out of here?
Maybe the dream that we had is gone The people 'round here are like a setting sun They're digging you up when they're knocking you down But they can't stop me from loving you
I did not bother fly and breezed off a lullaby Will do the damage kid If love's what it's all about it's so like a juggernaut Will do the damage kid (x2)

Very hard to make out though.

This is what I get for the lyrics. Some I still can't get, the bits in brackets I know are wrong but it's just what it sounds like.
There's gold in the city But never quite enough now to pay the rent You could've had it all But the pity is that everything you're gonna need is heaven sent
Maybe the dream that we had is gone The people right here are like a setting sun They're digging you up when they're knocking you down But they can't stop me from loving you.
Be my butterfly, ("please don't flutter by"? - sounds more like "fletter") You do the damage kid If love's what it's all about, ("soul i can trap me now") You do the damage kid
Like a stone I was falling Will anybody come and get me out of here I waited in the rain for the calling Will anybody come get me out of here

This is exactly how I expected the album to sound. Minus the sax solo, the female vocalist, and the weird sound in the into.
Is it just me, or does it seem very "Flick of the Finger" with the drums and brass on it.

The Turning always pops up in my head around 1.48
still blasting it and no it's not the greatest song ever but it's always a MAGIC moment to hear a new GALLAGHER song. you don't like it? what the hell did you expect? some sad acoustic? some GOOD REBEL? WONDERWALL?

My thoughts,
ITHOTM is probably the better overall song, but DTD is exactly the type of song that Noel needs on his album. It has energy to it and I'm willingly to bet that this will be a live highlight.
ITHOTM's disco blues is a nice direction for Noel to explore, but this song proves that Noel can still do exciting things with old fashioned rock n' roll. The intro (first 30 sec) reminds me of the Velvet Underground, which is always a good thing. The bass rumble is pure punk and the girls voice is a welcome addition. Props to the sax solo. I'm hoping that for a live version it'll have a ripping solo but I'm probably asking too much there.
This would have been really good on DOYS. It reminds me of a couple SOTSOG era rockers. It kinda of is a mix of PYMWYMI and FO, but it has DOYS' throwback roughness to it.
If there are some songs like this on the new album I'll be very excited. This is a very good b-side in my opinion.
